Drepung Loseling Policy

In line with Drepung Loseling Monastery in South India, DLM, Inc. in Atlanta, GA adheres to the following policy concerning association with the Dolgyal (Shugden) spirit:

Those in service here, administrative or teaching, do not engage in the practice of Dolgyal (Shugden) or attend teachings by known Dolgyal (Shugden) practitioners.

DLM, Inc. does not invite visiting teachers who are known Dolgyal (Shugden) practitioners.
Our distinguished visiting teachers such as Gaden Throne Holder Kyabje Rizong Rinpoche and Kyabje Denma Locho Rinpoche have explicitly expressed that anyone who practices Dolgyal (Shugden) should not attend their teachings or initiations.
For additional information relating to this practice, please visit the official website of
His Holiness the Dalai Lama: http://dalailama.com/messages/dolgyal-shugden.

This is one of the latest policies coming from Drepung Loseling. This is really amazing don't these people realise that the very syllabus they use is from Panchen Sonam Drakpa whose no other than Dorje Shugden himself. And I do not believe Denma Locho Rinpoche would have been the one who issued such an edict.

Is this buddhism or compassion that what Buddhism stands for? Hello if you truly have compassion why act in this way?

How interesting that they refer to Denma Locho Rinpoche as a staunch anti-Shugden lama. In fact, the truth seems to be quite different. No offense and no harm meant to denma locho Rinpoche, but here are the facts:

1) His Holiness Dalai Lama has spoken against a few senior lamas like Denma Locho Rinpoche of Drepung Loseling. Dalai Lama asked Denma Locho Rinpoche to travel to Tibet and speak to the people in his district to stop practicing Shugden. Denma Locho Rinpoche visited Tibet and never spoke against Shugden even one single word which made the Dalai Lama very unhappy till now. Denma Locho Rinpoche already in his 80?s and not allowed to have audience with Dalai Lama.

2) Denma Locho Rinpoche had travelled to Taiwan at the request of Serkong Tritul Rinpoche to give teachings and empowerments in year 2007. It is said that Serkong Tritul offered Indian Rupees 20 million to Rinpoche. Denma Locho Rinpoche in turned offered the amount to the building of Drepung Loseling's new prayer hall as they were short on money. The Drepung Loseling Admin accepted the money, then later questioned how did Denma Locho get so much. Letters are posted all over Drepung now during the visit of HH, questioning and accusing that the money came from Serkong Tritul. The amazing part is that Drepung monks accuse Denma Locho Rinpoche (their own guru), of this, and ask him to speak up, but they dont refund the money in question!!!!  Denma Locho Rinpoche has chosen to  remain silent on this subject.

3) Denma Locho Rinpoche was the heart son of yongzin Ling Rinpoche, and the ex-abbot of Namgyal Monastery. In fact, he was chosen as the abbot by the Dalai Lama himself! Another mistake from His Holiness? Surely not.

4) And only last month was Denma Locho Rinpche invited to teach again at FPMT centers, prompting speculation that his name would soon be cleared. If you look at Lama Zopa Rinpoche's biography tho, you will see that his formative years were also filled with Shugden Lamas such as Domo Geshe Rinpoche, Geshe Rabten, and of course, Lama Yeshe. Could this teaching invitation be one Shugden practitioners helping a Shugden supporter?

In any case, why is Drepung Loseling putting up such a notice considering all the harm they have done to Denma Locho Rinpoche? So hypocritical!

One things for sure... I've come to notice a trend that Tibetans or anti-Shugden practitioners are really good at putting words in to other people's mouth, or framing someone, or twist words around and created dramas that are unnecessary or real... this seems to be their forte! Nothing much to do with spirituality and all that compassion talk is pretty "empty". Sorry don't buy it!

HE Denma Locho Rinpoche is the Lord of Sutra and Tantra! The heart son of Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche himself. How would he have issued such a small and unmeaningful edict? And to add on, Denma Locho Rinpoche is a member of the Sangha, he does not cause schism within his own Sangha. If there is a disciplinary case in which members of the Sangha needs expulsion, it will be done officially by the Gekul of the monastery. There is no need for such an edict.

I mean, this is edict is such a demeaning act towards the names of these two illustrious masters. Is there anything else better to do?

Given the events that transpired, I am actually quite surprised that Drepung Loseling would put up such a sign because it has already been 'exposed' that Denma Locho Rinpoche is a Dorje Shugden 'practitioner' just for visiting Serkong Tritul. Why try to cover up something that everyone knows and its already common knowledge? Or perhaps, Denma Locho Rinpoche's name has been cleared and now he is considered as a non practitioner? Does anyone have any more info on this?

You know that these are degenerate times where even monasteries sell off their dignity and spiritual lineage in order to just survive. As much as I'd like them to not sell out their own Dharma practice and lineage for Dorje Shugden, there are also many monks in that monastery who might not be  able to take the harsh conditions of not being under the protection of the CTA. I dont believe that Denma Locho Rinpoche would write this, but I do believe that there are lamas who are vying for HHDL's approval who might have did that.

This is such a bully :( Not only this issue has been applied in Drepung Loseling, the ban of Dorje Shugden practitioners to attend teachings happen in many places around the world. This is totally not acceptable.

HH Dalai Lama should really lift the ban and instruct all the monasteries or organizers to stop bullying people, by allowing everyone to attend teachings and initiations.

I think it's very hypocritical for HHDL to implement such harsh measures on Ganden, Sera and Drepung while telling the rest of the world that it is their choice on whether or not they want to practice Dorje Shugden, while CTA officials continuously deceive people and cover up the fact that monks who practice Dorje Shugden are expelled mercilessly from the monasteries. The entire line of hypocrisy here will generate negative karma for the CTA against their wishes for Tibetan independence for sure.

Seriously i am waiting for the ban to be lifted as soon as possible. for the benefit of many please, HHDL can you lift the ban already because there are instances like this everywhere in the world especially in Tibet, Nepal and India are happening everyday and then. How long more people and devotees of Dorje Shugden have to endure this sort of harsh treatment and unfair treatment like this. Please i beg you or CTA people if you guys are reading this!

I wonder whose name the monastery announced as the benefactor. I heard that the monastery always announce the benefactor's name when an offering is made in cash or kinds. I also heard in some monasteries they accept cash donations from sponsors whom they know not of how the money was gained from. Yet pujas were done for such 'benefactors' to 'clean' their sins. But in this case Drepung Loseling questioned where the money came from but still kept the money. Maybe the amount was so huge and the monastery needed it. But still, it is double standard.

Dont just wait for the ban to be lifted. Do something about it! Send petitions to the relevant authorities to highlight the ban! Raise awareness of the ban's existence amongst people (where relevant) and spread awareness of the existence of Dorje Shugden to people you know. Nobody can hold a lie for long and if they can, they're just lucky but eventually everything will be exposed when more and more people are aware of the situation and aware of Dorje Shugden and the ban and the lies that were told.
