Dear Dharmabrother,

To answer your question, first we should agree on the definitions of the terms you mentioned:

YIDAM - this is refer to a personal deity (male or female) of a practitioner, embodying her or his potential nature once it is awakened; chosen and visualized according to one's psychologial makeup.

Orgyen Tobgyal Rinpoche explains the importance of the yidam:

"When we consider all the great masters of the Indian and Tibetan traditions, we find that in every case, their accomplishment came about through their practice of a yidam. They chose a deity and guarded that practice like their very life force, and on the basis of that complete commitment to the path of deity yoga, they practised the stage of generation, the stage of completion, and integrated these arriving at their final realisation of complete accomplishment and enlightenment."

As for DZAMBALA, He is known as the Buddha of Wealth. There are five (5) manifestations of Dzambala to represent the Buddha's and Bodhisattvas' compassion and generosity to guide sentient beings along the path to enlightenment. Their aspirations are to help the poor and those suffering from ill-fortune.

1.       Green Dzambala is the manifestation of Amoghasiddhi Buddha, who was requested by Buddha Shakyamuni to turn the wheel of Dharma to benefit sentient beings who are suffering from poverty. This practice will enable all endeavors to be perfectly accomplished and purify all bad luck and obstacles, prevent theft, bad debts and loss of wealth.

2.       White Dzambala Is the compassionate manifestation of the Bodhisattva Chenrezig (Kuan Yin). By practising White Dzambala one can remove the suffering of poverty and sickness, purify non-virtuous karma and karmic obstacles.

3.       Yellow Dzambala is the emanation of Buddha Ratnasambhava. By practising Yellow Dzambala, can remove poverty within the six realms, increasing virtues, life span and wisdom. All material and spiritual needs shall be met.

4.       Red Dzambala is depicted practising together with his consort, the heavenly mother of wealth. She is in-charge of wealth in the human realm. In ancient time, this deity was practised mainly by Kings and royalty. This practice is most suitable to people in high power, or pray for high power. By practisng Red Dzambala, one can attract people, wealth and fame. One will enjoy wealth in abundance and shall be well respected and supported by people.

5.      Black Dzambala originated in ancient India. He manifested from the waters of the river and gave the transmission of generating wealth to a King whose kingdom was undergoing extreme financial difficulties during that time. Benefits the poor and those in solitary retreat. If a person’s mind is always virtuous, Black Zambala will always take care of him/her.

Based on the above information, yes we can say that Dzambala can be a Yidam for one to practice for higher goals as His practice can lead to the ultimate goal of Enlightenment. Along the way, one will also gain the benefits for worldly needs; inner and outer wealth.
