this is a very touching topic of a mother becoming a nun for the son who won a medal during the recent olympic games. It shows the level of sincerity and their level of devotion towards the Dharma, where they can just let go of everything and become a nun to express their joy instead of going for parties and buying gifts. What a spiritual country!

Pimsiri Sirikaew of Thailand competes during the women's 58-kg, group A, weightlifting competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics, Monday, July 30, 2012, in London. Sirikaew took the silver medal.

BANGKOK -- The mother of Thailand's first medalist at the London Olympics is so happy she plans to become a nun.

Fireworks lit the sky in Pimsiri Sirikaew's rural hometown Monday after she won a silver medal in the women's 58-kilogram weightlifting event. Cheering crowds watched the event on giant outdoor television screens.
Proud mother Amornat Sirikaew told Thai media she had vowed to enter a Buddhist monastery for nine days if Pimsiri won a medal, a pledge she will fulfill Friday when Buddhist Lent begins.

The mother says the victory shows that dreams can come true. She adds that before heading to London her daughter had a dream in which she met three boys, named Gold, Silver and Bronze. Two of the boys stood still but the one named Silver ran and embraced her.
