Breakaway Tibetan Buddhists threaten the Dalai Lama???

I just read this news online, from Hindustan Times, the title said "THREATEN"?? How is it threatening the Dalai Lama? Funny enough on the 4th paragraph, it said " there was nothing threatening in the contents", so clearly the contents of the letter are just some information that you can most likely find in this website dorjeshugden.com, it is not some terrorist letter that wants to blow you up, it didn't contain anthrax etc. etc., so what is so "threatening" in the letter as so boldly claimed by the journalist? What kind of news reporting standard is this?

After remaining dormant for five years, the dissident group in the Tibetan community in exile has once again started its covert activities in Dharamsala town.

Dharamsala police received a parcel from followers of Dorje Shugden containing anti- Dalai Lama literature and a video CD.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Kangra G Siva Kumar, while confirming the news, said the some unknown person had been the parcel from Singapore.

"The parcel contains a pamphlet and a video CD," said Kumar, adding that there was nothing threatening in the contents.

"In the pamphlet and CD, questions have been raised over the efforts being made by the Dalai Lama and Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) for the freedom of Tibet and have alleged that proper path was not followed to achieve autonomy and independence," said Kumar. The Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile have also been accused of discriminating against Shugden devotees, added Kumar.

He said the CD contained a news clipping aired by a French channel in 2009. Meanwhile, SP Kangra, Diljeet Thakur said that security at the Dalai Lama's residence had been cautioned.

Shugden devotees are among the most violent fundamentalist groups among the exiles. One of their groups, Dorje Shugden Devotees Charitable and Religious Society (DSDCRS) has its headquarters in Delhi. In Feb1997, three Tibetan Buddhist monks, including the Dalai Lama's close associate, Lobsang Gyatso, who was opposed to Shugden-worship, were brutally murdered in Dharamsala. It was widely held that the perpetrators were monks loyal to Shugden.
 
The Indian police had identified and charged DSDCRS members of the triple murder and Interpol had issued a red corner notice against two accused in June 2007.

In 2008, an organisation named Western Shugden Society (WSS) had begun a campaign directed at the Dalai Lama. Picketing the venues where he was to appear around the world, they claimed that he was banning them from practicing their own lineage of Buddhism.
 
May this year, when the Dalai Lama apprehended a "poison plot" by the Chinese intelligence agencies, the Tibetan government in exile had felt threatened from fundamentalist groups backed by Chinese authorities. The CTA had asserted that efforts of the spiritual leader to reform and democratise the Tibetan society had emboldened certain fundamentalists within the community.
 
Shugden Dorje
Dorje Shugden is a controversial deity within Tibetan Buddhism. He is primarily associated with two influential lamas of the Gelugpa school of Tibet: Pabongka Rinpoche and Trijang Rinpoche. The Dalai Lama is the current head of the Gelugpa sect. Dorje Shugden is viewed by some as a protector and by others, including the Dalai Lama, as an 'evil and malevolent force'. In 1996, the Dalai Lama disassociated himself from the worshippers of Dorje Shugden and had appealed to the Tibetan community not to worship Shugden.

I agree with the odd contradiction within the letter itself. The journalist wrote that the contents of the letter were non-threatening, but then they highlight about how Shugdenpa's are the most violent of Buddhists. Why not speak about the contents of the letter, of which I'm interested to read!

They didn't even highlight how many monks have been torn apart by the ban, the injustice shown to Shugdenpa's (no schooling, no hospital, shop don't sell items to practitioners etc), the separation within monasteries... the CTA is the most violent of Buddhists.

Gotta love it. For all the people who laffed at the DS.com administration for encouraging people to send etters and hand out brochures and whatnot, its actually made an impact and got on the news albeit with some inaccuracies (but what else do you expect from the media)

JJ, "the most violent of Buddhists"? Seems an odd contradiction right there Ive never known any real Buddhists to be violent and certainly Dorje Shugdens never encouraged us to be violent or even defamatory of the Dalai Lama (contrary to what the Phayul trolls think). Its what I told the Muslims protesting on our DS Facebook Fanpage yer, the minute those Burmese started killing the Rohingyas, they stopped being Buddhists.

The news article shows so many things

1) The indian police seems to have been bribed by CTA to come up with such ridiculous statements and they have also been bribed to not really investigate the murder of Lobsang Gyatso which had made many enemies.  They have also been bribed to not watch/ignore the violence against Dorje Shugden practitioners

2) The reporters have been bribed to report that the Dalai Lama is the head of Gelugpa (LOL) and to write Dorje Shugden practitioners in a negative light. It also shows that they barely did any research before they wrote this piece.

Didint the editors check properly? If the CTA has enough money to bribe the police and journalists, they should have enough money to upgrade the facilities in Dharamsala? hmmm

Clearly this is a mis reporting by the journalist when the contents of the parcel are NOT threatening, as stated in the report but the headlines is mis-leading. How can the editor not spot this mistake or maybe it was purposely done so that the report will garner more readership.

But this is news is good to hear from all Dorje Shugden practitioners around the world as more and more people are taking action to create awareness on the discrimination of religious practice. Bravo to the people who sent this package! May the CTA take this as something serious and do something about towards the lifting of the ban.

I am pretty sure that the CTA is under a lot of pressure when more awareness are created and more packages like this are sent to everywhere. May the ban be lifted soon enough!

All the information they needed is actually in wikipedia. They only need to go there and have a look at the facts. But they did not. It is all very strange. I see a recurring theme in this and also in the purported scholars who had fabricated findings against Dorje Shugden such as Richard Dreyfus and Robert Thurman: they are all not well researched at all and it seems that they do not know what are they really talking about. If they dont, are things that they write still credible?

I am quite surprised how easily "threatened" the living reincarnation of the Buddha of Wisdom seems to be. Previously the Office Of The Dalai Lama claimed that the Dalai Lama's life was being threatened by an enlightened Buddha whose practice was in existence long before the present Dalai Lama was even born and now the Dalai Lama is being threatened by a pamphlet and a CD!

In the first instance, in response to the "threat" the Dalai Lama camp instigated the Tibetan Youth Congress and some Tibetan Women's Association to conduct door to searches witch hunts, tearing down statues, burning structures used for the worship of Dorje Shugden, casting out Shugden practitioners and denying them basic human rights and even putting posters of innocent practitioners in shops and public places like the town sheriffs would do of wanted criminals in the wild west. Now, that is what I would define as threatening.

And now they feel that a pamphlet and a CD is threatening. I might understand their sentiments if the pamphlet was laced with cyanide but as a Tibetan friend of mine (who is presently not very happy with the way things are in Tibet),  commented, the only thing the parcel was laced with was the Truth. That got me thinking...are these people threatened by the truth perhaps? Why react in such a way?

I doubt if His Holiness has anything to fear because just about the only thing that can threaten our life and wellbeing is our own negative karma that we generate when we disparage a Buddha, force oath bound monks to break their samaya, persecute innocent people and keep telling lies.

These people are threatened by insecurity. They do not know the real reason behind the ban, and all that they are after is just something really simple: they want acceptance in their own societies and they want reputation to be someone who is on the Dalai Lama's side of the camp. Therefore anything that challenges it would threaten them and they would go for the poor me stance. How can a simple package with a clip threaten the Dalai Lama? Have those people even watch that clip before they write? The reporters should be sacked for reporting falsehood.
