Dalai Lama visiting Japan
« on: November 18, 2012, 10:26:02 AM »
Dalai Lama meeting with the Japanese press covering many issues especially recent China-Japan relationship. We can have a good goal of harmony and peaceful society but using the wrong methods will prevent us from achieving the goal. He also touches on not viewing one's tradition and religion as the best for everyone.

The Dalai Lama has always promoted world peace and inter-religious harmony. He has travelled to many countries and everywhere he goes, he tries to reach out to people of other religions. On one recent lecture tour of the United States, at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, in the month of October this year, His Holiness emphasized the need for more effort to reach out to other faiths. He said that historically, in most cases of conflict in the name of religion, "the real reason is not religious faith, but economic reasons or power struggles. His Holiness has been trying to reach out to Muslims since the September 11, 2011 attacks. According to His Holiness, in every religion including his own, there are "mischievous" people who carry out destructive actions but to generalize their religion as something negative is totally unfair and unjust.

Japan has traditionally kept a low profile in relation to the Dalai Lama, whose visits with other world leaders, including U.S. President Barack Obama, has brought condemnations from Beijing. While the Dalai Lama is a regular visitor, having last been to Japan in November 2011, he normally holds only private events and doesn't meet with senior officials.

By playing a leading role in Tuesday's event, Mr. Abe runs the risk of further straining his standing with China just before he may take control of the delicate relationship. On Oct. 17, he visited the Yasukuni Shrine that honors Japan's war dead, including leaders from World War II who were convicted of being war criminals, drawing another protest from China's government.

Japanese nationalists also prompted protests from China in May when they hosted a Tokyo conference for a group of ethnic Uighur separatists that China considers terrorists.

I do not have a deep knowledge on the world of politics. And not too sure how it works, but i believed HHTDL visits to Japan and U.S are from good intention and motivation in order to promote peace and harmony to the world today. China seems continually looking very closely on every single steps of HHTDL, no matter what His Holiness does or goes, it seems to border them? Who is right and wrong in this world of politics? I believe every government and leader the world is responsible to look after their own country and people. Let go the pass and begin a new chapter, if human ego and pride are so easy to tame, everyone would be enlighten by now.

When we conduct ourselves with good motivation or without interest we wouldn't need to be bothered by what others said of us. However if we are acting out of self-interest we would always be paying attention to what others said of us, changing our stand, voicing our disapproval, declaring our innocent, always declaring that our intention is good, condemning others' action, praising our own actions, and basically making a lot of noise. We keep digging ourselves deeper and deeper focusing on the 'enemies' out there while not focusing on our 'internal enemy'.

The last decade saw the rise of the Chinese economy amidst the sinking sun of the ever-shrinking Japanese economy. This is in sharp contrast to the spectacular growth of the 90s that the Japanese dominated the world with her electronics and cars. However, boom-time is long gone and the Chinese seemed to have stolen the thunder leaving the Japanese with a slagging economy.

Hence, the Japanese are wary of the Chinese and although their economy had shrunken over the years but it is big enough to sustain a depreciating trend for many years to come. Anyway, for the smart Japanese, they know that the only way out of this economic gloom would be in relations to the Chinese. Hence, the Japanese are doing their best to maintain an economic relationship with the Chinese. Hence, it is no surprise that the Japanese are low-key with the visit of the Dalai Lama.

It always bring me happiness to read news about The Dalai Lama visiting more counties. In term of religions, The Dalai Lama, Tibetan buddhist are accepted and well known in that countries and this is a beginning of the relationship which lead to many factors in future.

As we known people from all over the world are going to attend The Dalai Lama teaching in different places in order to get his blessing and receive his teachings. For me, it a sign of growing of Tibetan Buddhist outside Tibet.
