China leaders vow to fight “Dalai clique resolutely”

DHARAMSHALA, March 9: China appointed leaders of Tibetan regions have renewed their pledge to fight against the “Dalai clique resolutely” and crackdown on “all secessionist forces and sabotage activities.”

The leaders were speaking in Beijing on the sidelines of the ongoing National People’s Congress, which will formally enthrone China’s new set of leaders headed by Xi Jinping.

"We will always place maintaining stability as our top priority and keep on crackdowns on all secessionist forces and sabotage activities," Lobsang Gyaltsen, chairman of the so called Tibet regional government, said during a panel discussion.

Speaking from the same platform, Padma Choling, chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region's people's congress, accused the ‘Dalai clique’ of encouraging self-immolations while failing to provide any evidence.

When asked about the nature of the evidence, Choling merely told reporters: “We have evidence, but it is not convenient to tell you now.”

The Chinese government is yet to release concrete details linking the incidents to the exile Tibetan community.

Jampa Phuntsog, TAR vice-party secretary added that regional authorities will take “strong measures to ensure the region's social stability."

The harangue of accusations comes a day after communist party leaders in eastern Tibet made similar declarations saying that their “struggle against the Dalai Lama is long-term and intense" and that they “can not relax at any moment.”

Since 2009, as many as 107 Tibetans have set themselves on fire protesting China’s continued occupation and demanding freedom and the return of the Dalai Lama from exile.

The exile Tibetan administration has denied all allegations by China and invited representatives of the Chinese government to investigate its offices in Dharamshala, India.

Speaking before a parliamentary committee in Canada last month, Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay, while noting that the exile Tibetan administration has made repeated calls to Tibetans inside Tibet not to resort to self-immolation, said that Tibetans are bound by duty to honour the sacrifices.

“As Buddhist or person of faith, we pray for all those who have died, including the self-immolators. And as a Tibetan, we support the aspiration of the Tibetan people inside Tibet including the self-immolators.”

The de facto Tibetan prime minister further pointed out that through the fiery protests, Tibetans are saying “occupation is unacceptable and repression is unbearable.”

“There is political repression, economic marginalisation, environmental destruction, cultural assimilation, and denial of religious freedom (in Tibet) ... There is no space for any kind of protest and there is no freedom of speech for Tibetans. Hence tragically and sadly, they are resorting to self-immolation,” Sikyong Sangay said.

I do believe that they are genuine when they say this - "We will always place maintaining stability as our top priority and keep on crackdowns on all secessionist forces and sabotage activities". The problem is that many people see these kinds of statements as being a traitor to the Tibetan cause. Of course the choice of words used are prone to being misunderstood, but if you dig a little deeper what is wrong with wanting to keep the peace in your country?

That has always been the priority of any real government: to protect the peace of the country and to ensure that the country does not descend into chaos, not just China. If the Tibetans did the same thing to the US, they will be slapped with sanctions and the like. China has been very tolerant of them for a very long time and the CTA should know that and stop testing their luck with China. CTA, being a fake government encourages violence against the Dorje Shugden practitioners and who organize strikes and self immolations do not care at all for the peace of their own people and does not deserve to be recognized by anyone as a real government.

Dr Lobsang Sangay says the CTA calls on the Tibetans to stop self-immolation yet says they have to honour the sacrifices? If this is not a contradiction in terms, i don't know what is. It's like telling someone don't steal but let's honour thieves! Someone of Dr Lobsang Sangay's intelligence must realise how contradictory this sounds?!

The de facto Tibetan prime minister further pointed out that through the fiery protests, Tibetans are saying “occupation is unacceptable and repression is unbearable.”

Repression IS unbearable! How do you think Dorje Shugden practitioners feel when they are repressed and ostracised??

“There is political repression, economic marginalisation, environmental destruction, cultural assimilation, and denial of religious freedom (in Tibet) ... There is no space for any kind of protest and there is no freedom of speech for Tibetans. Hence tragically and sadly, they are resorting to self-immolation,” Sikyong Sangay said.

Thank goodness that Dorje Shugden practitioners do not resort to self-immolation though they suffer from all that which is stated - political repression, economic marginalisation, environmental destruction, cultural assimilation, and denial of religious freedom, no space for protest and no freedom of speech. Please take a good look in the mirror and see what is happening in the Tibetan community against Dorje Shugden practitioners before you complain that this is being done to you. Perhaps it is karma coming full circle.

Obviously, from the way he talks, it is very clear that he is not very serious when it comes to stopping the self immolations. There is no sacred duty for the Tibetans to support the self immolations. The self immolations contradict Buddhism and also the creed of any country.

Repression IS unbearable! How do you think Dorje Shugden practitioners feel when they are repressed and ostracised??
Why is it not okay to suppress the people in Tibet from worshipping the Dalai Lama but it's okay to suppress Dorje Shugden practitioners and spread misinformation against them?

I wonder what would have happened if the Dorje Shugden Lamas start burning themselves in Dharamsala saying that they are being suppressed by CTA and they rather die. That would be interesting to thin about. It's so funny for LS to comment in this way about the whole situation when he and his government is imposing the same thing onto Dorje Shugden practitioners.

The more i read about LS's statements, the more i feel how stupid he is in trying to champion the rights of the Tibetans as he denies the law of Karma. he could have easily lifted the Dorje Shugden ban on the secular side but yet he allowed that to persist. Wrong move! Also, trying to get pity from others isnt a good way to get help. What gets help is for him to be honest and transparent.

This is interesting and also something that's been in discussion on this forum for awhile. I recall this article on the website written awhile ago which questions why indeed the Dalai Lama has not responded strongly enough on the immolations.

Self-immolations and the true fight for freedom: http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/the-controversy/self-immolations-and-the-fight-for-true-freedom/

An extract from the article: "Then, while all this is happening, the CTA have remained unusually quiet about the self-immolations. Apart from the token occasional comments, they have said or done little else to try to stop the immolations. This inaction is leading to more loss of lives. Their silence becomes suspicious, making it seem that they may well be manipulating the situation to their advantage or even be behind the incidents. Are the CTA intentionally remaining silent, refusing to strongly discourage the self-immolations because it generates more sympathy for their cause? Are they allowing their people to die for a free Tibet?"

Yes, the silence implies complicity with the self-immolations. Do the CTA and Dalai Lama not understand this? Or perhaps they do, and it really is because they are in 'cahoots' with these cases.

Even other religious leaders such as both the Karmapas have spoken strongly against these immolations and urged them to stop: http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/news/both-karmapas-urge-tibetans-to-stop-self-immolation/

More importantly, the first article quoted above, explores the question of why so much can be invested to suppress and discriminate against Dorje Shugden practitioners, but so little done in response to the cases of immolation. Notably:

Why is it that the CTA can invest so much time, effort and resources into stamping down on Dorje Shugden practitioners, but become so spineless in speaking against the self-immolations? Instead, the Dalai Lama and the CTA should stand up firmly against this, issuing clear directives that such action is not condoned nor encouraged, and that continuing in this way is tantamount to going against the Dalai Lama and his people. After all, this is exactly how they have been speaking to, putting down and repressing Dorje Shugden practitioners. Why is that the same tone and urgency is not expressed to prevent more cases of self-immolations and deaths?

Yes, why indeed!
Thoughts?

The "Dalai Lama clique" refers to the people within the Tibetan corridors of power who have significant influence over how things are run within the Tibetan community in exile, including determining the direction and strategy of the Sino-Tibetan issue. The Chinese have viewed these people as "splittist" in nature and have even alleged the "clique" is behind an ongoing string of self-immolations.

What doesn't help the Tibetans with this image is a number of unexplainable decisions on the government's part, including not speaking out strongly against these self-immolations but instead to glorify these suicides referring to it a sa duty. Bu the most mind boggling decision was to allow the publication of a Self-immolation guide authored by an official of the government body http://www.dorjeshugden.com/forum/index.php?topic=3210.0]. I wonder how such an application could have been allowed and the practice of Dorje Shugden banned?

In the recent years, the CTA whether consciously or out of negligence have indeed done much to split the Tibetan society, by failing to identify what the true Tibetan cause is and working towards harnessing its people under a single collective goal; taking sides in the 17th Karmapa issue which also served not only to divide the Karmapa school but also create a border-issue problem that China and India will eventually have to deal with; and these started with the government's ban of an ancient Protector practice i.e. Dorje Shugden. I am not sure of the CTA is "splittist" per the Chinese definition but they are without a doubt, a "splittist" force amongst the Tibetana themselves.

Like I have mentioned many times, the reason why CTA and Dalai Lama did not speak up against the self immolations is because they are the cause of the self immolations and they have been instigating them, at least that is what the CTA has been doing and if the Dalai Lama speaks up against it, it would hurt the families of the self immolators very much and leave them very confused as it is most likely that the CTA agents that go out and convince people to self immolate are doing it in the Dalai Lama's name. HHDL is aware of this which is why he has not been speaking out against the self immolations when he should. Perhaps he will after he lifts the ban.
