Trip bar on ‘pro-China’ Buddhist leader
« on: March 18, 2013, 01:36:36 PM »
Tai Situ has been suspected of being a Chinese agent for 20 years and yet HH Dalai Lama is still endorsing Tai Situ's Karmapa candidate? Perhaps it is the Dalai Lama's subtle way of "making friends" with China http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/features/operation-make-friends/.

How can the Dalai Lama and CTA claim that Dorje Shugden practitioners are Chinese spies in the face of news like this???

New Delhi, March 17: The Centre is understood to have rejected the request for a Bhutan visit by a top Tibetan Buddhist leader on the pretext that he could “meddle” with the clergy in Bhutan.

But sources said the home ministry was concerned the approval for Tai Situ Rinpoche could be construed as a relaxation of curbs imposed because he is seen as a “Chinese agent”.

Tai Situ had found and anointed Ogyen (Ugyen) Trinley Dorje as the current Karmapa. The young Dorje is also viewed as being uncomfortably close to China, although he is recognised by the Dalai Lama.

The fears were reinforced when Rs 8 crore of unaccounted foreign exchange was found in his monastery in Himachal Pradesh in 2011 and some foreigners were arrested. Dorje was booked but the charges were dropped at the request of the BJP government then ruling the state.

The move to block the trip by Tai Situ — whose pro-China image has stuck for over two decades — is seen as part of a larger strategy that shapes New Delhi’s policy towards Tibetan Buddhists and Beijing. The plots and subplots are spread from Tibet to Sikkim, Himachal and Bhutan.

The Dalai Lama has not visited Bhutan, although it has a Tibetan settlement. Sources said the reason could be that Thimphu is not too eager to get entangled in Tibetan matters and consequently in Chinese politics.

Bhutan is also said to be “wary” of Tai Situ’s visit, although he holds a Bhutanese passport. As a child living with the 16th Karmapa, the one who preceded incumbent Dorje, Tai Situ was respected by the then Bhutan king, sources said.

Tai Situ sent the request to Delhi last week asking to be allowed to visit Bhutanese monasteries and then return to India. But the ministry does not want to give the impression that the restrictions on him have been lifted.

In the late 1990s as Tai Situ was visiting China, the security establishment in New Delhi decided to not allow him to return as it saw him as a “Chinese agent”.

The “ban” was revoked following pressure from various quarters but soon security agencies furnished “evidence” that made the government change its mind again. The ministry then decided that if Tai Situ leaves India, he would not be allowed to return.

This time, officials said, Tai Situ has asked for a “no objection” to return. “If he is allowed to visit Bhutan and allowed to return, it would amount to lifting the ban on his movement,” said a senior former IB official.

New Delhi has imposed some curbs on Dorje too — especially on visits to the Rumtek monastery in Sikkim — suspecting him and Tai Situ of being part of a long-term project to ensure “China-friendly” monasteries in the Himalayan region.

But the latest move is likely to be criticised by Himachal leaders, including Congress chief minister Virbhadra Singh, who revere Buddhist leaders. Tai Situ and Dorje, the Karmapa, enjoy similar political clout in Arunachal Pradesh.

Home ministry officials allege Tai Situ visited Hong Kong on a Bhutanese passport earlier, as well as China through Kathmandu. He also holds a Chinese passport and documents to suggest that he is a Tibetan refugee, sources said.

The Bhutan trip damper comes close on the heels of King Jigme Khesar Wangchuk’s visit to India as chief guest at this year’s Republic Day parade. “We do not think that Tai Situ Rinpoche is welcome in Bhutan,” said an official.

According to the website of Tai Situ’s Karma Kargyu sect, he was six when he fled Tibet. He travelled first to Bhutan and then to Sikkim where he “joined” the 16th Karmapa, Dorje’s predecessor. In 1975, he established the Sherab Ling monastery in Himachal, a move seen by New Delhi as a sign of rift with the then Karmapa.

Yes it is quite strange that the Dalai Lama and CTA would endorse the candidate of Tai Situ Rinpoche whom the Indian government regards (quite blatantly) as a Chinese spy. The CTA in the past has accused Shugden lamas and Shugden practitioners of being spies sent by the Chinese government to sabotage the Tibetan initiatives for their freedom. In fact, the Kundeling Rinpoche was labelled as a spy for merely having visited China a couple of times, but in reality the label was due to the Kundeling being a Dorje Shugden lama.

Being accused as such, Shugden practitioners and lamas were literally outcasted by the Tibetan people allegedly for endangering the Tibetan fight for independence. And here we have Tai Situ Rinpoche, a lama who is clearly pro-Chinese and he is welcomed and supported by the Dalai Lama and the CTA. A totally different treatment to what Shugden practitioners have experienced over the years since the ban. If the CTA is indeed fearful of Chinese infiltration into the Tibetan community in exile, wouldn't the endorsement of Ogyen Trinley, Tai Situ Rinpoche's candidate as the 17th Karmapa, be the equivalent of inviting a Trojan horse into their midst? The CTA is totally inconsistent in this regard and it goes to show bad faith in the way they treat Shugden practitioners.

It would also appear that the CTA place their hatred of Shugden practitioners above the collective Tibetan goal of achieving true independence. How can this be right and how can the Tibetan people overlook this? More to the point, how can any Tibetan continue to believe and support the CTA in its persecution of Shugden practitioners?

In addition, by CTA supporting a pro-Chinese Tai Situ Rinpoche, it also means that the CTA is not supportive of its host nation, Indian and further, is not supportive of India's security. Endorsing Tai Situ Rinpoche's candidate places him into an extremely influential position in the state of Sikkim which is a potential flashpoint for Sino-Indian conflict. Three separate Indian courts of law including the Supreme Court - the highest court on the land, have found that the rightful claimant to the Rumtek Seat located at Sikkim, the traditional seat of the 17th Karmapa is Trinley Dorje who was recognized and enthroned by the Shamarpa, NOT Tai Situ Rinpoche's candidate.

In other words, in the final analysis, the CTA supports a Chinese candidate over a Tibetan one, and in the process betrays the friendship of India who has been very generous to the Tibetans. What can one say about such a "government" as the CTA?

I dont find it strange at all. The CTA uses "chinese spy" as a label for people they do not like as opposed to actually calling a real Chinese spy a chinese spy which is the reason why they cannot progress: they sabotage their own chances to improve or to be more like a government. I am inclined to believe the Indian government as I dont think they are the type that will falsely accuse people of being spies without evidence. So perhaps, the CTA has been allowing themselves to be infiltrated by the real Chinese spies while they insult Dorje Shugden practitioners and other people they do not like as imaginary chinese spies. Lol.

Just to add another point to this "Chinese spy" accusation towards Dorje Shugden practitioners... now, the Dalai Lama and the CTA has been requesting the Chinese government to have a dialogue with them for a long time. Why would the Chinese want to have a dialogue with a group who use "Chinese spy" as a derogatory comment? This is especially when the allegation is completely baseless? Just think for a moment, what would the Chinese authorities make of this strange idiosyncrasy of the Tibetans? Would this endear the CTA to the Chinese or alienate them? Are the Tibetans not shooting themselves in the foot? This is something for the CTA to ponder perhaps.

Strangely, the western media never picks this up. It is pretty funny that western people and the western media fail to realize this and they only make one sided comments about the Dalai Lama and CTA, and how much China refuses to be in dialogue with them but they dont report the full situation of the matter. CTA is hypocritical in every step of the way and the western media covers their tracks up in the eyes of the world. For example, they declare CTA to be democratic when there is little or no proof that CTA is democratic as there is only one party to vote for in the CTA: The Dalai Lama's party and if you dont vote for them, you're the enemy of the state.
