Tibetans to build largest statue in Russia

Good to hear that yet another large statue is going to bless our place on earth. My Guru always remind us on the importance and significance of having large statues in our place of residence. A large Buddha monument like this will stabilize the land and also promote economical growth so that the Dharma can flourish.

Just wanted to share this with everyone so that we can all rejoice! =)

KYZYL, April 3 (RIA Novosti) – Tibetan sculptors will create a statue of Buddha for Russia's East Siberian republic of Tuva that will be the tallest Buddha monument in the country, Buyan Bashky, chairman of the Tuva Buddhists Union, said on Wednesday.

The monument, which is being erected on Dogee Mountain in the predominantly Buddhist republic’s capital of Kyzyl, will be comprised of Buddha sitting on a throne.

Work on constructing a six-meter-high (20-foot) throne began in 2011 and the total height of the monument after completion is expected to reach 15 meters (50 feet), Bashky said.

“The statue of Buddha himself will be built in Tibet, and it is planned to be put up on Dogee Mountain in Kyzyl this fall,” he said.

The cost of the project, according to various estimates, is between 12 and 13 million rubles ($383,000-$415,000). The statue is being funded by donations.

Tuva has a population of 319,000 people, and according to recent social surveys, 53 percent of them say they are Buddhists.

Currently, Russia’s tallest Buddha monument is located in Elista, in the country’s southwest republic of Kalmykia – another heavily Buddhist area – with a height of over 10 meters (33 feet). It is also the tallest Buddha statue in Europe.

The world’s tallest Buddha monument is the Spring Temple Buddha, located in China’s Henan province. Its total height is 153 meters (502 feet).

Buddhist sculptures have a long history that extends for more than 2,200 years.Rejoice to the Tibetans in Russia for this great news of building a holy statue.
We only have the karma to see Buddha's reflections: the symbolic representation of Buddha,such as statue,paintings and so forth,the merit is equal to that of actually seeing Buddha and make offerings.The purpose of building holy statues,create the cause of success and happiness.Because this holy statue , sentient beings can make offerings and pray to it and receive blessings.

You are right Q! Rejoice! I am always happy to hear news like this. More more more Buddha statues please. As huge and wide as they can. Why? So that many can have the seeds planted and also the tremendous blessings that the Buddha statue can give. Can you imagine the peace and calmness too? I must go visit when the statue is done.

Now I wish for HUGE Dorje Shugden's statues everywhere too! Wouldnt it be wonderful?

This is very inspirational, we certainly hope that'll be more news like this. In fact, the more the merrier moreover do not forget that this is happening in Russia. A country which embrace communism not too long ago and still. I just couldn't believe this is actually happening and this is actually the 2nd Buddha statue. Let's hope there will be more projects similar to this so that all the sentient beings will be bless.

From the article it would become the tallest Buddha statue in Europe. The current one is the tallest one standing in Russia as well. Because this is a much taller statue and with the higher construction cost it would cost more to build. To be able to finance such a large statue one see that giving has become a part of the culture of the local community. In supporting the building of the Buddha statue one also creates the cause to hear and receive Dharma.

This is such wonderful news to know that the Tibetans are going to build the largest statue in Russia. A buddha’s image is used as an inspiration for creating and spreading positive human qualities and the more notable or bigger a statue is, the more people will hear of it, see it, and have the chance to benefit from it.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if there is a big Dorje Shugden statue too

Rejoice to learn that a Buddha statue will be coming soon to bless the land in Russia. And it is the largest statue in the country.
