Buddhist extremists in Myanmar threatened to burn down a cinema if it showed a documentary about two friends caught up in anti-Muslim violence, an organizer has told the Anadolu Agency.

Following online threats and phone calls to cinema owners, a human rights film festival was forced to cancel a screening of documentary "The Open Sky," which follows the lives of a Buddhist and a Muslim woman during clashes in the central town of Meiktila last year. The violence left more than 40 people dead and displaced thousands, mostly Muslims.

The documentary was due to be shown alongside dozens of films at the four-day Human Rights Human Dignity International Film Festival, which concluded Wednesday in Yangon, Myanmar’s former capital and still its largest city.
Mon Mon Myat, a festival co-organizer, told AA Sunday that extremists had threatened to “start another riot in Meiktila” if the screening went ahead. She added that two cinemas involved in the festival had refused to show the documentary after receiving phone calls from people threatening to set fire to their buildings.
“We don’t want to be a scapegoat for another potential riot,” she said.

Extremists also took to Facebook to post threats against the film’s producers and the festival organizers.
The mob violence in Meiktila in March last year lasted two days and claimed the lives of many children from a local Islamic school.

?A film festival in Yangon showcasing human rights would have been unthinkable just a few years ago, before Myanmar began easing severe restrictions on freedom of expression. But the new freedoms, brought in by a reformist government that replaced the military junta in 2011, have also unleashed a wave of vitriolic hate speech against Muslims.

Mon Mon Myat said that the lead Muslim character in the film had her photograph taken at the closing ceremony, which was then posted on an anti-Muslim Facebook page.

David Mathieson, a senior researcher for Human Rights Watch in Myanmar described the incident in an internet statement as "the latest case of growing anti-Muslim hate speech backed by threats of violence - often backed by Buddhist monks - that has driven communal tensions and even attacks in Myanmar since 2012."
Earlier this month, local monks urged a boycott on a mobile phone service provider setting up in the country because it is Muslim-owned.

Other examples, said Mathieson, include breaking up literary events and the denouncing of – and in one case physical attack on – United Nations officials for perceived Muslim bias.

"Ultra-nationalist monks have pushed a paranoid conspiracy narrative claiming that the small Muslim minority are threatening Burma’s Buddhist majority faith," he said. "[They] are now pressuring President Thein Sein and the parliament to consider draft laws to 'protect' religion and prohibit inter-faith marriage."

The United States and United Kingdom ambassadors to Myanmar released statements earlier this week condemning the threats against the festival.

The way the speaker disrespectfully refers to Myanmar by its colonial name of ”Burma” already shows his disgruntled ex-colonialist's political outlook, which is to support the overthrowing of the legitimate, local governments and replacing them with Western-friendly puppet regimes.

Besides, the ”small Muslim minority” has been heavily financed, ideologized, armed, and trained, by extremist fundamentalist Wahhabite terrorists hailing from brutal Muslim theocracies such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, with the full support of Western ex-colonialist countries and war-mongering media. The same as in Sri Lanka.

Such terrorists are hell bent on imposing the Muslim law, the Sharia, wherever they manage to. They are doing th same right now, together with the most unspeakeble terrorist actions, such as mass executions and crucifixions, in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere, always with the brazen support of Western countries and media.

Inter-marriage is already forbidden by Muslim law, as Muslim women are not allowed to marry non-Muslim men. Besides, non-Muslim women are forced to convert to Islam in order to marry Muslim men, which is a violation of their religious freedom. Therefore, what has to be proscribed is the Muslim law.

Besides, if the non-Muslim woman really wants to convert to Islam, she can simply convert, and the marriage with a Muslim will not be forbidden anymore. The fact that this does not happen shows that the conversion of women to Islam is forced, and thus an unacceptable violation of her rights, which the draft laws prevent.

Therefore, the draft laws to protect religion and prohibit inter-faith marriage are indeed very necessary, as they prevent the violation of the religious rights of non-Muslim women. The very best would be to proscribe and criminalize the Muslim brutal law, known as ”Sharia”, but the draft laws are already an important advancement.

I really do not know what else to say. Next thing you know, they forbid you to have any connection with other race in that country.

Myanmarese people are open and friendly to everyone. Nevertheless, they know better than you how to protect their own culture, religion, and traditions, from the Muslim extremist terrorist assault they are undergoing, with full support of Western governments and media, and, of course, of people like you.

The funny thing is that, no matter now many atrocities happen everyday in Western countries or with Western support, I have never seen a Myanmarese offering opinions on how Westerners should deal with their own business, but hardly a day passes without one seeing disgruntled ex-colonialist Westerners trying to interfere with the business of the Myanmarese people.

Your comparison is uninformed and degrading. Peaceful Muslims suffer no restriction or persecution in Myanmar, as Shugden people do suffer in India and elsewhere. Besides, you are comparing Shugden people to Muslim terrorists. 'We’ll take back Spain': Fighters claim ISIS to seize 'occupied lands'

A group of jihadists claiming to be part of ISIS have vowed to invade Spain along with all other “occupied lands” in a video posted on the web.

The men say Spain is the land of their forefathers and that they are prepared to die for their nascent Islamic State.

The video of two men claiming to be militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) has taken the Spanish media by storm. The minute-long footage shows them speaking in Spanish, and saying that ISIS will take over Spain.

“I tell you, Spain is the land of our forefathers, and, Allah willing, we are going to liberate it, with the might of Allah,” says one of the men. He adds that the group won’t stop at Spain and intends to spread its Islamic Caliphate across the world.

“I say to the entire world as a warning: We are living under the Islamic banner, the Islamic Caliphate. We are going to die for it until we liberate all the occupied lands, from Jakarta to Andalusia,” he said.

The footage has not yet been independently verified, but it would not be the first video released by the group. Last month, ISIS released a propaganda video entitled: “There Is No Life Without Jihad” in which Australian and British members of the group appealed in English for Muslims across the world to join their cause.

“We have brothers from Bangladesh, from Iraq, from Cambodia, Australia and the UK,” says a militant called Abu Muthanna al-Yemeni, who himself comes from Britain, according to a video caption.

The extremist Sunni Muslim group began to seize control of towns and cities in Iraq at the beginning of June. Since then it has captured large swathes of the region, straddling the Iraqi-Syrian border and continues to advance on the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

The leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, announced the creation of an Islamic State, or caliphate, encompassing the lands that the group has taken under its control. He also called on Muslims throughout the world to join the cause and fight for ISIS.

"Muslims everywhere, whoever is capable of performing hijrah (emigration) to the Islamic State, then let him do so, because hijrah to the land of Islam is obligatory," he added.

So far Iraqi security forces have done little to slow the advance of the Islamist group, with the government appealing for aid from abroad to repel the onslaught.

The US has sent 300 military advisors to Iraq to combat the threat and is deploying another 300 troops, helicopters and drones in the area. Saudi Arabia has also deployed 30,000 troops along its border with Iraq, while Russia has sent fighter jets and pilots to support the Baghdad government against ISIS.

I agree. Buddhism is about compassion, kindness, tolerance, care and acceptance. Extremist behavior is not Buddhist at all and should seriously be addressed. This is especially so for sangha members who participate in extreme behaviors that promote violence. Negative karma is extremely heavy and should be stopped.

Convert, pay or die: Iraqi Christians flee Mosul after Islamic State ultimatum

The Islamic State has issued an ultimatum to the Christians in the town of Mosul in northern Iraq, urging them to convert to Islam, pay a religious tax or face death.

The statement by the leader of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, warned that the Christians had until Saturday to “leave the borders of the Islamic Caliphate.”

“After this date, there is nothing between us and them but the sword,” the statement said.

The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, which is the previous former name for the Islamic State, captured Mosul as part of a large-scale offensive in July, which resulted in the declaration of a “caliphate” in parts of Iraq and Syria earlier this month.

Messages warning Christians about the ultimatum were announced through loudspeakers on the city’s mosques.

Church leaders advised the few families who wanted to negotiate with militants that they should also flee for their own safety. The exodus went on in Mosul throughout Friday, with all the Christians abandoning the town by the end of the day.

“Christian families are on their way to Dohuk and Arbil, [in the neighboring autonomous region of Kurdistan],” Patriarch Louis Sako told AFP. “For the first time in the history of Iraq, Mosul is now empty of Christians.”

The head of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Iraq said that, in recent days, the Islamic State militants had been tagging Christian houses with the letter N. which stands for “Nassarah” – the way Christian are referred to in the Koran.

“We were shocked by the distribution of a statement by the Islamic State calling on Christians to convert to Islam, or to pay unspecified tribute, or to leave their city and their homes taking only their clothes and no luggage, and that their homes would then belong to the Islamic State,” Sako said.

"We have lived in this city and we have had a civilisation for thousands of years - and suddenly some strangers came and expelled us from our homes," a woman in her 60s told Reuters. On Friday, she had to flee for Hamdaniya, a mainly Christian town controlled by Kurdish security forces to the southeast of Mosul.

The events in Mosul, which is home to the tomb of the Biblical and Koranic prophet Jonah, echo the decree, which ISIS issued in the Syrian city of Raqqa in February, ordering the local Christians pay tax in gold and curb displays of their faith in return for protection.

Mosul lies across the Tigris river from the ancient city of Nineveh, at the heart of Mesopotamia. It used to have a Christian population of around 100,000 a decade ago, but the numbers decreased drastically due to waves of attacks on Christians following the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq.

Locals estimate the town’s Christian population at around 5,000 ahead of the Islamic State takeover. But they said that all, except around 200 people, have left Mosul during the last months as it was controlled by the Islamists.

Video: ISIL shoot teens in head, dump bodies

The ISIL Takfiri militants has released a video showing the terrorist forces shooting a number of Iraqi teenagers in the head and dumping their bodies in the river.

The ISIL released the 30-minute footage on its website on the occasion of the Eid al-Fitr.

The video shows masked ISIL terrorists taking the teens to a river. Then, they shoot them in the head on the river bank and throw their bodies in the water.

It is not clear whether the victims are Iraqi forces or civilians but the footage mentions that they are Shia.

The footage also warns the Iraqi forces of facing the same fate if they resist against the ISIL Takfiris.

Iraq's Ministry of Human Rights says ISIL Takfiri extremists are using Iraqi children as human shields.

The Human Rights Watch has also confirmed the report that the ISIL Takfiri extremists are using children as human shields to carry out their acts of violence. The organization also said the extremists recruit children to help them in their fight against Iraqi government forces.

The crisis in Iraq escalated after the ISIL terrorists took control of Mosul in a lightning advance on June 10, which was followed by the fall of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of the capital Baghdad.

The Iraqi army, backed by tribal forces and volunteers, has been engaged in heavy fighting with the militants on different fronts and has so far been able to push back militants in several areas, including in Tikrit.
