We all know that the 14th Dalai Lama "Banned" Dorje Shugden.
What you do not know is that he quietly "Banned" the Dharmapala Methar decades earlier.
Methar is a Dharmapala in the retinue of Dorje Shugden.
Please go to the following links to read about Methar, Nyari Tulku (Nyatrul), His Holiness Demo Tulku and Tengyeling Monastery.
They were all murdered and Tengyeling Monastery was destroyed by the 13th Dalai Lama and his Government.
These articles were written on Tsem Tulku's website and it will give you a foundation for the blog I am writing about
http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/great-lamas-masters/methar-of-tengyeling-monastery.htmlhttp://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/dorje-shugden/the-spirit-nyatrul-magic-mischief-and-misery.htmlThe next link is from a book titled "Oracles and Demons of Tibet"(1951) and Tsem Tulku has quoted from it.
The quoted listed below is found on page 144 and it is to my knowledge the only known reference to "Methar" anywhere in the non Tibetan world prior to Tsem Tulku's articles in October 2106.

Another dharmapiila of a more recent origin, found in the retinue
of rDo rie shugs Idan, is the guardian-deity Me thar. This god is said to be
the spirit of the treasurer (phyag mdzod pal of Tengyeling (bsTan rgyas
gling) monastery, which was destroyed by troops of the Tibetan Government
in 1912.'0 The unfortunate treasurer was taken prisoner by the
soldiery and was skinned alive. His spirit then turned into a ferocious
demon. Later, he was subdued by an incarnate lama, the gSer kong rin po
che, and turned into a guardian deity of the Buddhist faith. Me thar is
depicted wearing the colourful garment of a high-ranking lay-officIal.
In one hand he holds a rosary, the other one brandishes a lance. He is
sometimes depicted riding a blue horse.

Since the 1960's or so Methar has disappeared from the world of Dorje Shugden and his retinue.
Not until October 2016 when Tsem Tulku wrote 2 articles on this did the world of Dorje Shugden followers rediscovery Methar.
I had prior to 2016 contacted numerous Dorje Shugden Lamas, Geshes and Tulkus about Methar.
That list included H.H. Trijang Rinpoche, Tsem Tulku, Zasep Rinpoche, Panglung Rinpoche, Ari Kuten, Gangchen Rinpoche etc. and even the New Kadamapa's in London.
Not one had every heard of Methar.
How could a Dharmapala in Dorje Shugden's retinue be totally forgotten?
How could Dorje Shugden Lamas, Geshes and Rinpoches have totally forgotten him?
This did not make any sense to me.
For years I searched for any answer to this most puzzling question.
Finally I received an answer.
Methar was not forgotten by the Dorje Shugden Lamas but in fact they were ordered to "Forget" him.
As the story told to me goes is that the 14th Dalai Lama quitely "Banned" the practice of the Dharmapala Methar.
The Dalai Lama and the then "Tibetan Gov't. in Exile" went around and told the Shugden Lamas to stop teaching about Methar.
That if they continued teaching about Methar it would embarrass and damage the reputation of the Dalai Lama who is the emanation of the "Buddha of Compassion".
This all happened years and years before the "Ban" on Dorje Shugden.
This all happened in private and the general public never knew.
The 14th Dalai Lama wanted to stop all public knowledge about Methar and what happened at Tengyeling in 1900 and from 1910 through 1912.
It was hard enough for the 14th Dalai Lama to talk publicly about how his own Government had MURDERED Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen.
And then to talk about how he as the then 5th Dalai Lama continually tried and failed to MURDER Dorje Shugden.
The 14th Dalai Lama worried about what he would say if questioned about the Dharmapala Methar.
If he was asked a question like " Tells us 14th Dalai Lama about how Methar died and arose a Dharmapala in Dorje Shugden's retinue?"
Remember it was during his time the 14th Dalai Lama still practiced Dorje Shugden.
The 14th Dalai Lama would have to say that Methar and the monks of Tengyeling Monastery rose up against the 13th Dalai Lama and his Government in 1910.
How then fought with the Chinese Army and expelled him and his Government from Tibet.
He would be asked "Why would Methar and Tengyeling Monastery try to destroy the 13th Dalai and his Government"?
How could he tell the world that the 13th Dalai Lama and his Government MURDERED their Lama, His Holiness Demo Tulku and his close friend and teacher Nyari Tulku.
H.H. Demo Tulku was the head of Tengyeling Monastery and also the "Regent" of Tibet.
The 13th Dalai Lama and his Government MURDERED not one but TWO TULKUS.
Then the 14th Dalai Lama would then have to state that in 1912 his army defeated the Chinese Army and the monks of Tengyeling Monastery.
Then he would have to admit that he DESTROYED TENGYELING MONASTERY AND HIS SOLDIERS MURDERED METHAR BY SKINNING HIM ALIVE and because of this Methar arose as a Demon and later as a Dharmapala in Dorje Shugden's retinue.
The tale of Tengyeling Monastery was an anti 13th Dalai Lama story.
So the 14th Dalai Lama and his Government decided to made Methar go away quietly so as to save his public world wide reputation.
They told the monks to drop all teachings about Methar but they could continue teaching about the Dharmapalas Kache Marpo and Namkar Barzin.
Neither of them had any negative connections to the Dalai Lama Lineage.
So quietly since the 1960's the teachings of "Methar" stopped and after time he was forgotten.
The Shugden Lamas did this so as to help the 14th Dalai Lama as their God King.
Remember that the 14th Dalai Lama at that time was still stating that Dorje Shugden via a Dorje Shugden Oracle helped him to escape Tibet.
That he was a follower of Dorje Shugden.
So with the passing of time and decades the new monks that followed Dorje Shugden never received any instructions about the Dharmapala Merthar.
Methar was forgotten by all and the 14th Dalai Lama continued to appear to be the "Buddha of Compassion".
His and the Tibetan Governments BLOODY HANDS WERE NOW WASHED CLEAN.
His plan of the "Quiet Ban" had worked.
But then came His Eminence Tsem Tulku in October 2016 and the world suddenly rediscovered Methar, Nyari Tulku, His Holiness Demo Tulku and the truth about Tengyeling Monastery.
It is because of His Eminence Tsem Tulku kindness we now have two thangkas of Methar, Methar's mantra and an official "Praise to Methar".
Because of Tsem Tulku we now all know the truth about Tengyeling Monastery and the 13th Dalai Lama.
Tsem Tulku saved Methar from the wicked plans of the Dalai Lama and his Government.
Thank you Tsem Tulku for all you have done for Methar and for Dorje Shugden.
