I hope China will accept dialogue with Tibetans: Lobsang Sangay

The chances are actually slim since Sangay didn't do his preparation work in leading to getting in China's good book and with the recent nonsense from Sangay saying Tibetan is India's problems too. That's creating a schism between India and China. Dalai Lama already having problems to return to China and now Sangay is creating sparks for India and this may create a negative situation for Dalai Lama in India. Is Sangay trying to push India to chase Dalai Lama and all Tibetan out?

China will never initiate a dialogue with the Tibetans. Why will they do that? There are no benefits for them at all and it is just a waste of time for them to try to talk to the Tibetans. China is one of the most powerful countries in the world right now and they do not need anything from a bunch of refugees.

In fact, it is the Tibetans who needed China. The Tibetans are really arrogant to think that China will even want to have a dialogue with them. Just look at Tibet now. Tibet had progressed so much during their occupation and the quality of life in Tibet is quite good now. Poverty is down to less than 10% and soon it will be completely eradicated.

China had removed its wish to initiate a dialogue with Dalai Lama from the white paper and it already tells us what is on China's mind. Tibetans took too much of time and now the chance for them to connect with China is not longer viable. Too bad.

I agree with you China will never have dialogue with CTA. Why would they since all Lobsang Sangay aka CTA does is condemn them and criticise them? That's really not the way to go about making "friends" with China like what the Dalai Lama said. What has CTA got to offer to China? It used to be the Dalai Lama but now they are even starting to find their own Dalai Lama, so I don't think they are worried about the next incarnation now.

They showcased their great military might and unveiling the Dongfeng 41, a nuclear-capable missile that could reach the US in 30 minutes. Is this a warning? Probably.

One thing is for sure, China takes its nation's unification extremely seriously unlike CTA. President Xi stresses, “Unity is iron and steel; unity is a source of strength”. This is something the Tibetan exile government should learn. All great leaders unite their people, not divide them.

China’s Xi: ‘No force can stop the Chinese people and the Chinese nation’

BEIJING — Chinese President Xi Jinping said Tuesday in a speech commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party’s rule that no force could sway China’s development.

“There is no force that can shake the foundation of this great nation,” Xi said in Mandarin, according to an official translation broadcast through state media. “No force can stop the Chinese people and the Chinese nation forging ahead.”

Xi did not specifically mention any other country by name, and emphasized that China would pursue peaceful development.

“Long live the great Communist Party of China. And long live the great Chinese People!” Xi concluded his speech, which lasted for less than 10 minutes.

Xi then reviewed the military, in which about 15,000 personnel were said to be participating. The review was also set to showcase 160 aircraft and 580 pieces of military equipment, including drones and missiles.

China ended the equipment portion of the military parade by unveiling the Dongfeng 41, a nuclear-capable missile. The Associated Press quoted analysts as saying the weapon could reach the U.S. in 30 minutes.

The capital city will also hold a gala Tuesday evening as part of the National Day celebrations.

Hong Kong’s leader Carrie Lam traveled to Beijing for the 70th anniversary, as did Financial Secretary Paul Chan, amid 18 consecutive weeks of mass demonstrations in the special administrative region.

In his speech Tuesday, Xi said that the central government would “maintain long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao.”

“Forging ahead, we must remain committed to the strategy of peaceful reunification, and ’One Country, Two Systems,” Xi said. He added that China would “advance peaceful development of cross-strait relations, unite the whole country and continue to strive forward the complete unification of our country.”

Separately, during a speech at a reception on Monday night, Xi stressed China’s need to be unified under the Communist Party in order to overcome challenges.

“Unity is iron and steel; unity is a source of strength,” Xi said, according to an English-language transcript from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Chinese leader reiterated the government’s position of “One Country, Two Systems” on Hong Kong and Macao, as well as the “One-China” principle on Taiwan. Xi said, “The complete reunification of the motherland is an inevitable trend; it is what the greater national interests entail and what all Chinese people aspire for. No one and no force can ever stop it!”

Xi became China’s leader in 2012, and abolished term limits last year.

All this says is that China refuses to budge and entertain any talks with the Dalai Lama's representatives and yet they do not feel the need to appoint better envoys. Actually they should appoint better people who can negotiate and PR better since no one has been successful and the positions of the envoys has remained vacant since June 2012.

It just looks like they are not really interested in dialogue with China and Sangay is just giving excuses. This statement and fact "There has been no official communication between China and the CTA since 2010" indicates that China does not even recognise CTA's existence. What a huge put down for the CTA - who?

DHARAMSHALA, Oct. 7: On the much discussed issue of the vacant positions of the envoys for the Sino-Tibet dialogue, the exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Sunday revealed that the decision to not appoint new envoys was a pre-emptive move to maintain the previously explored channels of communication with Beijing.

The Dalai Lama who gave up political authority to an elected leadership for the Tibetans said that he and the incumbent head of the polity and President of the Central Tibetan Administration Dr. Lobsang Sangay at the time discussed that appointing new envoys may result in outright rejection from Beijing.

“If we appoint envoys representing the exile administration, that may prompt Chinese leadership to reject them blatantly. The alternative is to explore the same channels of communication that were established through me and maintain that. I have been approached by influential Chinese businessmen and even government officials,” the Tibetan leader said adding that outright rejection of new envoys will be counter productive to the process.

Tibetan legislators have questioned the Tibetan President on the positions of the envoys that has remained vacant since June 2012 and how that may reflect absence of any dialogue between the two sides.

During the recently concluded session of the Tibetan exile parliament, Dr. Sangay said responding to a query from a law maker that, while there are no dedicated envoys appointed, Chinese section Secretary at the Dalai Lama’s private office Ngaba Tsegyam is assigned the role to liaise for dialogue between Chinese and Tibetan counterparts.

Last year, The Tibetan President said that while there is no official communication between the envoys of Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Beijing, “back channel talks” happen, indicating that track 1 and track 2 diplomacy is an occurrence between the Tibetan and Chinese counterparts.

The President of the Central Tibetan Administration in an interview with News18 on April 3, 2018 said, “There has been no official communication between China and the CTA since 2010. But there are back channel talks that happen. People keep coming from the Chinese side and we are very transparent with them.”

In June 2012, the two Special Envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Lodi G. Gyari and Kelsang Gyaltsen, who had led nine rounds of talks with the People’s Republic of China since 2002, resigned from their positions. They cited the deteriorating situation inside Tibet and their “utter frustration” over the lack of positive response from the China as reasons for their decision to resign.

Why should China talk to CTA who has been irritating them for the longest time? Would you want to even see the person that has been irking you? Sure not! On one hand CTA keeps saying a bad thing about China and on the other hand now CTA wants to have a dialogue with China for Dalai Lama and Tibetans to return to Tibet. CTA taking much advantage and thinking China is ok to be humiliated in such a way. CTA forgot that they have to put down themselves and do a lot of groundwork to be seen as supporting China to be in their good book. CTA needs to show all these to show their sincerity. Looking at how CTA managing this, show clearly there is no effort and we can understand why Dalai Lama wants to run for the next election.
