A couple of days back, I was reading some articles about the Tibetan struggle and how the CTA are working towards Tibet autonomy (or is it independence? I can never keep up with their changing mind).
Anyway, it struck a chord - if the Dalai Lama had never banned Dorje Shugden, all wouldve been hunky dory in the Tibetan communities. No one wouldve thought otherwise about the Dalai Lama or the CTA, and theyd have still enjoyed outright support for all of their directives.
In fact, in banning Dorje Shugden and upholding the ban, they shot themselves in the foot by turning some Tibetans and even more people abroad against them. They created even more problems for themselves by banning Dorje Shugden - now they have to justify why they spend money on upholding the ban, why they continue to be hypocritical about human rights, why they continue to be hypocritical about their Dharma practice. Now they spend more time justifying and defending themselves, and they have to direct already-scarce resources in this direction...their spreading themselves way too thinly.
Even the thickest person can see that...so why did they ban him? Why do they continue to uphold the ban? Why not just say look mate, sorry about that, it was a daft mistake, and close the chapter on that?
Why hang on to ego and continue to suffer in this way, and opposed to just suffering the momentary embarrassment of saying your wrong (but then benefiting from greater support in the long term)?
Am I missing something???
