Discovery of Ribur Rinpoche’s Tulku Announced
« on: June 05, 2011, 03:22:31 PM »

Tenzin Pasang, the recognized tulku of Ribur Rinpoche.
It’s been nearly four years now since Kyabje Ribur Rinpoche passed away in South India. Before Rinpoche’s death, he made it extremely clear to quite a few of his students that he would quickly take rebirth in order to continue his work for the benefit of sentient beings. Before Rinpoche passed away, he even made it clear that he’d built his labrang (home) near Sera Mey for his next incarnation to grow up in. Also, he requested Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa (whom Rinpoche often praised very, very highly) to be his first teacher in his next lifetime and even chose a young monk to be his attendant in his next life.

Thank you for this info, Tenzin Sungrab. Do you know if Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa is a Shugden practitioner? I searched online but i didn't find any reference to Khensur and Shugden.

Here is some information I found on Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa as follows:

http://www.fpmt.org/teachers/resident/503-khensur.html

Venerable Emeritus Abbot Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa (known as Geshe Thinley Topgyal) was born in 1937 in Nyaktren, a sector of Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. In 1947 at the age of 10, he gained admission to Sera Mey Monastery of the Sera Mahayana Monastic University near Lhasa---one of the three major seats of highest Buddhist studies.

In 1952, he received his novice monk vows from the late Minyag Tondues Rinpoche, the 95th Throne Holder of Gelugpa Tradition in Tibetan Buddhism. In 1959, he received the complete bikshu vows---the highest level of ordination---from His Eminence, the late Yongzin Ling Rinpoche, the 97th Throne Holder of Gelugpa Tradition and also senior Tutor to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Khensur Rinpoche studied in Tibet until 1959 when he fled to India after China invaded and forcefully occupied Tibet.

Rinpoche soon returned to his studies in the exiled Sera monastery, reconstructed under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the spiritual and political head of the Tibetan people. From 1959-70, he resided with more than 1500 monks from four Tibetan Buddhist sects at Buxar, an old British Army camp in West Bengal. In 1970, the monks of Sera Mey relocated to Mysore district in Karnataka State in southern India.

The monks reestablished Sera Mey Mahayana University in Bylakuppe. Khensur Rinpoche continued his spiritual training and studies there with his characteristic dedication and enthusiasm. In 1986, he completed the final exam for a Geshe degree, and received the esteemed honor of Geshe Lharampa (equivalent to a PH.D.), the highest level awarded.

From 1980 to the present, Khensur Rinpoche has continued to teach at Sera Mey Monastic University. In 1989, he assumed the position of Discipline Master for one year. Then in 1990, he received the advanced degree of Ngagrampa (highest degree in Buddhist Tantra studies) from Gyumed Tantric College after extensively studying the secret teachings of the Mahayana tradition.

In 1993, Khensur Rinpoche became Discipline Master of Gyumed. Monastic leaders soon after submitted his name and that of eight other prominent Geshes to the Dalai Lama as candidates for the post of Lama Uzed (Head Lama to lead all rituals) of the Tantric College. On January 7, 1994, the Dalai Lama selected Khensur Rinpoche to serve as the Lama Uzed, and on Nov. 12, 1996, the Dalai Lama appointed him as the honorable Abbot of the Gyumed Tantric College.

Khensur Rinpoche completed his three-year term as Abbot with dedication and success. He taught tantric studies continuously for three years and conducted numerous religious rituals and ceremonies.

On completion of his term, Khensur Rinpoche returned to his teaching position at Sera Mey Monastic University, and continues to teach sutra and tantra to students and senior Geshes. He also continues his active leadership and participation in all religious ceremonies of the monastery.

During his term as Abbot of Gyumed, Khensur Rinpoche made his first visit to the USA and Canada to conduct various religious teachings and rituals at the request of the Gyumed College administrators and western students. A considerable number of westerners benefited from this initial tour. In 2003, He taught widely in Singapore and Malaysia.

Khensur Rinpoche is both a scholar of great knowledge and understanding, and a holder of many traditional teaching lineages. His generous presence and contributions to the Sera Mey Monastic University have proven indispensable. The great master Kyabje Ribur Rinpoche has repeatedly praised Khensur Rinpoche as both a great scholar and master practitioner of Buddha's sutra and tantra teachings. Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche notes that Khensur Rinpoche is widely respected for his patience, compassion, and virtuous character; among Tibetans he is often referred to as the "Buddha Abbott." A living example of Buddha's teachings, Khensur Rinpoche divides his time between personal meditation and practices, and teaching a growing network of western and Tibetan students. He is highly qualified to teaching on all levels of Buddhist practice and to conduct all Buddhist rituals.

Tulkus are very relevant and extremely sought after. They even prepare for their next rebirth by making their houses, picking the attendants and choosing their teachers before they pass on. Clear sign they have control over their rebirth process.

We are fortunate great Tulkus are still recognized and enthroned to continue their works.

Welcome back to the great Ribur Rinpoche, heart son of Pabongka Dechen Nyingpo. You prove by following Dechen Nyingpo's teachings you can gain great attainments.

May Tulkus continue to arise, continue to manifest dharma activity and continue to turn the wheel of dharma.

At this degenerate times when we can't see the supreme emanation of the Buddha directly, tulkus manifest in world to take on the same activity that the Buddha himself would to tame the crazy minds of living beings, become their spiritual guides and teach them the Dharma.  In the Lamrim, it is mentioned that Buddha Vajradhara said that he will manifest as Spiritual Guides in degenerate times.  Therefore, to beings of degenerate times, the tulkus who are their Spiritual Guides are their Buddhas for they perform the same actions as the Buddha and Buddha Vajradhara himself said so.

I rejoice that Kyabje Ribur Rinpoche's incarnation has been found and recognised.  May many more tulkus continue to manifest so that many beings will be benefited.

It is great to know another Tulku who practice Dorje Shugden is back.  As more and more Tulkus return, TGIE's accusation of Dorje Shugden being an evil spirit that cannot be relied upon will slowly fade away.

Ribur Rinpoche has suffered 17 years of imprisonment and torture, including some 35 of the notorious "struggle sessions" during the Cultural Revolution. Rinpoche was exiled in 1985, never to see his homeland again.  Ribur Rinpoche attributed the blessings and teachings of his root Lama (Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche) that Ribur Rinpoche survived the imprisonment/torture and was able to forgive the "enemies" .  The previous Ribur Rinpoche passed away on January 15, 2006 at Sera Mey monastery in Southern India, at the age of 84.

I also read that Ribur RInpoche has  visited China and  worked with the Panchen Lama to recover holy objects – including the famous Shakyamuni Buddha statue in the Ramoche temple – that had been dismantled and shipped to China. Rinpoche also re-established the destroyed stupa of Lama Tsongkhapa, which contained some of Lama Tsongkhapa's bodily relics. Amazing!

This website is so full of information, I am so glad I found it. I find this quite amazing, that for the practice to survive it will have to come from the attained and the not-attained persons.

Seeing this picture of RIbur Rinpoche sends me a message, that a High Lama's work spans more than one lifetime, and comes across many many beings over and over again. Goes through so much repeated actions that do not get results, and if they do results that are very minor.

Yet they still have compassion to come back to teach. Even in degenerate times, it is still a good time to come back to teach, as the new incarnation moves with the technology we have today, and will have in the future, I feel it will aid in their Dharma work.

The Pioneers of the technological age are now, in preparation for the future lifetime. Wow to have a diigital repository for a future lifetimes Dharma work is quite mind blowing to as there will be comparisons made of the previous incarnation with the next!

Something to think about huh!

Thank you for all the wonderful information provided on this thread and this website.

Reading Ribur Rinpoche’s (heart son of Pabongka Rinpoche)biography has been deeply inspiring and has evoked the strongest feelings of admiration. He was the living embodiment of Bodhicitta – he suffered 17 years of imprisonment and torture from the Chinese and yet was able to forgive them for the harm they did and practiced ‘tonglen’ in regard to them.

It is not surprising that he wanted to make sure that his incarnation would continue his great work of spreading the Dharma for the benefit of all beings. Hence he even requested a renowned highly attained master and scholar(of both sutra and tantra) to be the first teacher of his incarnation – Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang

Being of the Gelugpa lineage, Khensur Rinpoche will be able to pass on the precious lineage teachings and practice of Je Tsongkapa to the young incarnation, Tenzin Pasang. It would be great indeed if Khensur Rinpoche were a Shugden practitioner also.

May Tenzin Pasang, the recognized tulku of Ribur Rinpoche, manifest all the great qualities of his previous incarnation and continue to perform all the great works of Dharma like him.

Positive Change

Wonderful news and information on yet another tulku manifesting. For those we are blessed with the presence of such teachers may we rejoice and wish that we may continue to reap the merits to have them in our lives. More elaborate details on the discovery of Ribur RInpoche's tulku can be found here: http://ggbctalk.blogspot.com/2009/12/ribur-tulku-recognized-autumn-2009.html

Extract from the link above:

[November 2009]

This is an update going out to Genden Ling (the Dharma Center of Kyabje Ribur Rinpoche) and friends…

It’s been nearly 4 years now since Kyabje Ribur Rinpoche passed away in South India. Before Rinpoche’s death, he made it extremely clear to quite a few of his students that he would quickly take rebirth in order to continue his work for the benefit of sentient beings. Before Rinpoche passed away, he even made it clear that he’d built his Labrang (home) near Sera Mey for his next incarnation to grow up in, requested Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa (whom Rinpoche often praised very, very highly) to be his first teacher in his next lifetime, and even chose a young monk to be his attendant in his next life.

Soon after Rinpoche passed away, his nephew and long-time attendant Tenzin Rinpoche wrote to H.H. the Dalai Lama who indicated that it would not be difficult to find the tulku of Ribur Rinpoche and that this would be possible in 4-5 years time. Also, Kyabje Ribur Rinpoche had told a couple of people that his tulku would be found very close to Sera Mey monastery in South India.

So, last year at the request of Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche arranged to have some monks collect names and information about boys recently born near Sera Mey. These names were then given to Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche who subsequently arranged to have them given to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Recently, His Holiness wrote back to Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche indicating that a young boy (currently) named Tenzin Pasang who lives close to Sera Mey Monastery in South India is the reincarnation of Kyabje Ribur Rinpoche!

The young boy apparently lives with his father and older sister. His parents have been told about this news by a group of monks from Sera, and they were apparently quite happy with the news and quite agreeable to his entering the monastery to study when he is old enough to do so! His parents apparently mentioned that Tenzin Pasang often liked holding a Vajra and Bell.

I was just given permission to share this news with Rinpoche’s students, so feel free to pass this along to friends who may not already be included in Genden Ling’s email list if you like. I hope that others of you who knew and studied with Kyabje Ribur Rinpoche—a true emanation of Shri Heruka Chakrasamvara—are as joyful at this news of the discovery of his reincarnation as I am!

As this time, nothing is particularly needed in terms of help or support for the tulku. So, it appears that for now we can simply rejoice and also make prayers that the tulku continues to uphold and spread the Buddha’s teachings in general and Je Tsongkhapa’s teachings of Sutra & Tantra in particular as vastly and skillfully as the previous Ribur Tulku and also that all of his holy wishes be fulfilled.

Also, His Holiness the Dalai Lama advised that the boy recite the mantras of Manjushri and the Miktsema name mantra of Je Rinpoche to remove obstacles or obscurations. Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche indicated that it was OK for us students to also recite these on behalf of the tulku. If opportunities arise in the future such that donations can be collected for pujas or other needs of the young tulku, then I’ll pass that along as well in case people have the wish to help in those ways as needs arise.

We can obviously see that it was HH Dalai Lama who selected from those names submitted to him the young boy named Tenzin Pasang to be the current incarnation of Ribur Rinpoche. As we all know Ribur Rinpoche was a life long Dorje Shugden practitioner and HH dalai Lama just recognised a Tulku who practised Dorje Shugden.

Obviously everyone can see the contradiction here, firstly, if Dorje Shugden is an evil spirit, then DS practitioner Ribur Rinpoche would not even be able to reincarnate back. Secondly, it is HH Dalai Lama who recognised back a Tulku who had dedicated a life long practice to Dorje Shugden. Should HH Dalai Lama be condemning lamas practising DS?

The picture is very clear here, Dorje Shugden is not an evil spirit and Dalai Lama is recognizing Tulkus who were DS practitiioner.

Wonderful another lineage lama back to turn the wheel of dharma.

He has great devotion to Pabongka Rinpoche....

“My guru, kind in three ways, who met face-to-face with Heruka, whose name I find difficult to utter, Lord Pabongka Vajradhara Dechen Nyingpo Pal Zangpo, was born north of Lhasa in 1878. His father was a minor official but the family was not wealthy. Although the night was dark, a light shone in the room, and people outside the house had a vision of a protector on the roof.” – from Ribur Rinpoche’s “memoir”
