Dorje Shugden Activities: Empowerments, Teachings etc
« on: February 01, 2012, 11:21:44 AM »
Found out that there will be a Dorje Shugden empowerment  in Akshobya Kadampa Buddhist Centre, Calgary this February 18. Who is giving the initiation though? Gen Kelsang Dema ?

Below details from their website: http://dev.meditationalberta.org/special-events/dorje-shugden-empowerment-feb-18/

Dorje Shugden Empowerment – Feb 18

Dorje Shudgen is the dharma protector of the Mahanaya tradition of the great Buddha-Lama Je Tsongkhapa.  He is an enlightened being who is an emanation of the wisdom, compassion and spiritual power of all the Buddhas.  His powerful mandala and retinue are the synthesis of the three Jewels – Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.

His job is to protect the purity of the Kadampa tradition and cause it to flourish purely throughout the world.  He supports practitioners of Lamrim, Lojong and Mahamudra Tantra by providing the inner and outer conditions necessary for their spiritual development.

Everyone encounters difficulties on the spiritual path and with the protection of Dorje Shugden these obstacles are quickly dispelled and all of our pure wishes are fulfilled.

This empowerment ceremony imparts the special blessings of this great Protector and brings us closer to him.

Program:

9am – Preparatory Meditation

11am – Empowerment Ceremony

4pm – Relying on Dorje Shugden

$60 per person

wherever it is, this is great to hear. It is encouraging to hear not only about the empowerment but about how the lineages and teachings are being strongly and steadily passed through the generations.

we mustn't forget the fact that many of the old and great generations of teachers which originally left Tibet and began bringing dharma to the world, have already passed away or are near passing. The next generation of teachers are perhaps still quite young or still in training, and this is a crucial time of transition as one great age of teachers pass. There may be a void for a time, as the young teachers are still being trained, so it is more important than ever for us to uphold the teachings ourselves through our own practice and by sharing as much as can with fellow spiritual friends.

Here's wishing Akshobya Kadampa Buddhist Center a very successful and wonderful empowerment ceremony! May there be many more like these in the world!

Thank you for sharing this information. How often are these empowerments given? Does one have to do anything to prepare for it before hand or can I just stroll in and receive it? Also, is it normal to charge for empowerments? Of course I know that there are costs involved in organising any event but it just seems a bit commercial to charge for this. I do know that HH the Dalai Lama also charges for talks and stuff (okay maybe he doesn’t charge but his organisation or students do and they have to cover overheads like rental of hall etc) so maybe it’s just one of those nasty necessities.
