The Dalai Lama has always promoted world peace and inter-religious harmony. He has travelled to many countries and everywhere he goes, he tries to reach out to people of other religions. On one recent lecture tour of the United States, at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, in the month of October this year, His Holiness emphasized the need for more effort to reach out to other faiths. He said that historically, in most cases of conflict in the name of religion, "the real reason is not religious faith, but economic reasons or power struggles. His Holiness has been trying to reach out to Muslims since the September 11, 2011 attacks. According to His Holiness, in every religion including his own, there are "mischievous" people who carry out destructive actions but to generalize their religion as something negative is totally unfair and unjust.
