Truthfully I am not sure how to take the Dalai Lama's advice on India. On the one hand, India is a model of true democracy and allows a wide range of religion to be practiced and propagated in the great nation. On the other hand, the persecutions of Dorje Shugden practitioners on Indian soil, right under the noses of Indian authorities make me wonder if they are truly about freedom of religion and whether they value the principals of justice and human rights. I still find it bewildering that after such a long time, India has not even uttered a word about the issue.
As for Indian media, I do not see how it is fair to continue to tag and infer Dorje Shugden to be a practice that encourages violence. If a band of murderers were caught and all happened to be Hindu, will the same paper refer to them as members of the dangerous Hindu community? Certainly not. That parcels with clear evidence had to be sent to the Indian police is a sign that Shugden practitioners do have genuine grievances and have hard evidence to prove it.
India needs to be clear that Shugden practitioners are not their enemy nor are Shugden people causing potentially explosive problems with China for India. On the other hand, the CTA that has enjoyed the patronage of India continue to incite unrest that will be played out along the China-India borders such as Sikkim. Not only that, in labeling Dorje Shugden practitioners to be Chinese spies, the CTA turned Indian authorities against them. If indeed they are Chinese spies, why not go back to Tibet Autonomous Region now and practice their religion openly rather than live stateless poverty and fear under the CTA?
India should also remember clearly that it is not the Shugden practitioners who colluded with the Chinese to poteantially hand over Sikkim to the Chinese once the Chinese approved Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley takes over the Rumtek seat. The people who may yield Sikkim to Chinese are the same people who banned Dorje Shugden, that is the CTA.
