Fortunate or unfortunate- It is still blissful
« on: May 05, 2013, 11:39:19 AM »
If we are capable of taking charge of our mind,we may still feel fortunate even if something unfortunate happens. One who cannot control his thoughts would easily be influenced by unfortunate happenings.By allowing oneself to be trapped, the situation may get worse and out of control.
A truly blissful person is one who cultivates blessings. With blessings,he can travel round the world.Without blessings,he can hardly move anywhere. With bliss and blessings and the wisdom that we have cultivated we
would realize that, fortunate or unfortunate,it is still blissful.

I like the way you have said it, Red Lantern. It is true. If we know the true existence of self, and realise that we control our own minds, any unfortunate event can be seen as fortunate. It is when we want to blame, want to leave the situation to others, want to find fault, or whatever, is when we will feel unfortunate about any situation we are in and start to complain and dwell.

To have a strong and stable mind is key to success in life, because that means in any situation, you are able to get out of it. Dharma gives you a strong and stable mind, when you accept that you are the cause for whatever situations you encounter - so there is no need to blame.

I do agree with RedLantern. Fortunate and unfortunate is defined by own's mind. Some people may feel they are unfortunate on the thing happended to them. But other people may see it differently or positively. Fight and cross over the unfortunate, the fortunate just in front of us. We will become more tough and strong in our life once we get off from the unfortunate trap.  :)

Anyone can receive blessings any time. We just have to believe in, or tune into, or even actually mix with, the fount of blessings, however we may construe it, and blessings will always come streaming into us like sunshine into a darkened room.

Some of my Facebook friends posted beautiful comments in response to the question: “What exactly are blessings?” Here are some of them.

Eileen Quinn kicked it off with: “Good things that flow into your mind from the Buddhas…. I think of the sudden feelings of peace or happiness – out of the blue – as blessings.” Adam Head calls blessings “divine love/inspiration”. Debbie Howard describes them as: “Good healing energy zapping the negativity in our minds and filling them with positivity.” Victoria Kaya says: “It’s when you realise you’re not alone and you feel a peace that flows through you and emanates to others.”

MJ Weaver emailed me: “Francesca Fremantle wrote in her book Luminous Emptiness: Understanding the Tibetan Book of the Dead: “The Tibetan literally means ‘an engulfing wave or flood of splendor and power.’ I saw elsewhere that the Sanskrit word ‘adhisthana’ literally meant ‘uplift’. And they’ve been described as ‘waves of grace’, which certainly rings true for me.”

Well said Red Lantern, IF we are in full control of our monkey mind, we can perceive positively even if something really bad had happened. Those who are unable to control their thoughts will be easily influenced by their own ignorant mind to perceive things negatively and worse, entrapped into deep anger thoughts.

It is only when one realizes that the true existence of self and the fact that we can control of our own minds, any mishap that happened to us can be seen as fortunate. Hence it is very important to have a strong and stable mind by understanding Dharma so that we can develop qualities to have strong minds to be able to achieve happiness in life.

It is very important to have a stable mind in whatever we trying to achieve in life. Without stability being develop, we could easily give up and gave in easily to our monkey mind which could lead us to be very negative when things doesn't go to what we perceived. That's why it is very important to have Dharma and practice it daily so that we will have the full control of our mind.

Developing those qualities needs a better understanding of Dharma, so practice it daily.

By realising the ultimate nature of reality - that all phenomena are impermanent, in the nature of suffering, and lacked of true existence – we are then able to deal with our predicaments or good fortunes.

Our unfortunate situations are impermanent and will end once the karma for their manifestation is exhausted. We are the creator of our own unfortunate or fortunate situations.  We must accept responsibility for the results of our own creation.

Everything in samsara is in the nature of suffering.  Hence it is normal to experience unfortunate situations.

Due to the ignorance and obscuration of our mind, we have a wrong perception of the true nature of reality – the nature of unfortunate situation. What we perceive as an unfortunate situation may not be so in the eyes of another and vice versa. For enlightened beings like the Buddhas, every situation is pure meaning they are neither unfortunate nor fortunate.  If we change the way we perceive the unfortunate situation, we can overcome it.

Because we grasp at the unfortunate situation as real or existing inherently, we suffer. We can liberate ourselves from the suffering of an unfortunate situation if we realise the emptiness of the unfortunate situation.

Hence by realising the ultimate nature of reality, there is no fortunate or unfortunate experience.  All experiences are blissful!
