More tulkus are choosing to be born outside Tibet for obvious reasons. Tibetan Buddhism is spreading to the West and we also see more and more monks from the East travelling to Western countries to teach Buddhism and to open new Buddhist centres and monasteries. Why do some tulkus have difficulties in carrying on the work of their predecessors? Is it because the students have broken their samaya and do not have the merits to keep their master with them? In this case, will the lineage die off when the tulku passes away? Then who loses? The lineage or the students? What happens to the tulku? Will he continue to reincarnate to benefit sentient beings in another place?
