“Protesters denounce the Dalai Lama as a ‘dictator’”

The author starts off this article by saying, “Protesting the Dalai Lama? For many, that sounds like throwing eggs at Santa Claus.” The author then explains the whole history of protesting against the Dalai Lama. One interviewer referred Him as “the worst dictator in the modern era.”

In my opinion, the real story of the Dalai Lama is too much filtered through a positive lens, and consequently, people think of Him as a hero.

Yes, the Dalai Lama is somewhat heroic in that He travels around the world to talk about Buddhism and how it can pacify people’s minds, and also led His people away from China to provide peace that the Chinese government is not capable. However, not that many people are aware of how He oppresses those who believe in other religions, such as Dorje Shugden. Why do they not know it? Because the media does not cover it extensively. I think it is  a very important responsibility of journalists and reporters to bring awareness for people who are heavily biased toward the Dalai Lama. It is people’s responsibility to filter through whether they will remember Him as a hero or a villain.
