This is a historic event, for Tibetan Buddhism in Tibet after many years of spiritual vacuum in Tibet.

This event is also one of the significant threats to the hegemony of the CTA and Dalai Lama.

Kalachakra initiations will no longer be in the domain and control of the CTA and the Dalai Lama only. Could it be the end of the CTA as we know it.

With the 11th Panchen Lama coming of age and giving this mass Kalachakra initiation, there will be more disgruntled people who merely wants to see the negative sides of things i.e. that this is a 'fake' Panchen Lama and the 'real' Panchen Lama is still missing.

We should just be happy that the tradition and lineage is being continued for the benefit of all sentient beings.   Let us not lower ourselves to the level of the anti-Shugden followers of the Dalai Lama, in their misguided way and allow them to drag us to their level.

I rejoice in this Kalachakra initiation as it will benefit or at least plants seeds for future enlightenment in the minds of the attendees. I rejoice for the fact that there were so very many people, both ordained and lay that were fortunate enough to be there for the initiation. I rejoice for the fact that the Chinese government are supportive of religion nowadays, a far cry from the days of the Cultural Revolution. I rejoice too that the 11th Panchen Lama has matured into a learned young lama with high attainments to continue the pure lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa and Dharma Portector Dorje Shugden.

Whatever the CTA and their followers are trying to do will not detract from the good work of the current Panchen Lama. The works of the lama will speak for itself.

This comment was left on the comment section of the article by Carole McQuirre which I thought aptly describes the difference between Dorje Shugden lamas and the Dalai Lama. You will never hear Shugden lamas stopping Dalai Lama fans/believers from participating in their teachings, initiations or indeed any of their spiritual events. The Dharma is for all and the Buddha intended the Dharma for all sentient beings regardless of who/what they are.

The Dalai Lama and Shugden haters on the other hand make it a condition that Shugden believers and even friends of Shugden believers are barred from coming close to them and receiving teachings from the Dalai Lama.

Would the Buddha stop anyone from listening to his teachings?

From Carole McQuirre:

Who is more spiritually powerful? Panchen Lama or Dalai Lama?

If Dalai Lama is more powerful how come he is afraid of Dorje Shugden and do not allow Dorje Shugden Buddhists to attend his talks/rituals?

How come Panchen Lama allows everyone to attend his religious talks/rituals even Dorje Shugden Buddhists and there are no restrictions on them?

Who gives more religious freedom to the people? Panchen Lama or Dalai Lama?

Panchen Lama allows all people to attend his public teachings without restrictions. But Dalai Lama does not. Dorje Shugden people barred from attending Dalai Lama’s public teachings.

Does anyone understand my point?

Panchen Lama although plagued by controversy due to his Chinese affiliations would eventually outgrow them. The fact that he at such a young age is bestowing a Kalachakra initiation reflects his future potential to lead and he is forging of his own students and followers right now. This incarnation, who is very much like the previous incarnation who remained behind to stick it out with his Tibetan folk and was aligned with the Chinese is showing once more, the bravery to outgrow his criticism.

Today's world is a whole lot more different as compared to the previous generation during the time of the previous incarnation. The Chinese is by far more receptive and eager to promote the Panchen Lama in order to pacify the Tibetans. The Chinese of course have a self-serving agenda but which government does not? Therefore, the Panchen Lama works to harmonize the agenda of the Chinese and the growth of the Dharma and his growth of his spiritual dominion. In the end, the Panchen Lama, a Kalachakra lineage master and a DS practitioner as well would prevail.

I certainly think so. With this Kalachakra initiation event, the over 100,000 strong supporters showed the great influence of the 11th Panchen Lama. Whether the claims of him being fake or not matters not as his attained nature shines forth in his successful propitiation of Dharma and its practises. With each successful future teachings/initiations to be given, the 11th Panchen Lama will rise in status and popularity. Once people realise the teachings/initiations are given freely without suppression of religious freedom to practise, then they will prefer to stop attending the Dalai Lama's events which are conditional.

Now that China is openly practising religious freedom and sponsoring big events like this Kalachakra initiation by the 11th Panchen Lama, soon the Dalai Lama will not have voice to support his claims of China's suppression of the Tibetan Buddhists. As such his ban on Dorje Shugden will have even lesser effect as attention and loyalty shifts to the friendly alternative. An absolutely wonderful shifting of momentum. CTA and the Dalai Lama definitely have cause to worry.

The Kalachakra initiation signals the coming of age of the 11th Panchen Lama. It also signals the beginning of the new generation of lamas after the 1959 attack by China. But. we have to accept that China had apologized for their mistakes and making up for it. It was the politics of the time. Now, we move forward with the revival of Buddhism in China.

Maybe, without the Dalai Lama being a thorn in China's side, the revival may not have happened so fast. Maybe without the Dalai Lama banning the practice of Dorje Shugden and China taking up the slack to push the practice to the forefront. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

But, the bottom line is that China has sponsored this Kalachakra initiation and there were thousands of people who attended.

May the 11th Panchen Lama continue to spread Dharma to the ten directions.

Such joyful news to read of the Kalacakra Initiation bestowed by the 11th Panchen Lama. The attendees of more than one hundred thousand to this recent ceremony held in China were most fortunate indeed. Truly the Kalacakra tantra is such a holy and powerful practice that many would sought to be empowered to be a practitioner. What more, this is the first Kalacakra initiation being held in China after the last which was 60 years ago!

So rejoicing to see so many people of all walks of life having this wonderful opportunity to attend this holy event. Certainly a good sign that the Chinese government grants its citizens the freedom of religion and no one is barred from attending the teachings and the initiation ceremony.

Definitely the beginning of the END for CTA.

Looks even communist CHINA does not BAN or DISCRIMINATE against any religion (except the ones that goes against the govt of course) and so does NOT have a BAN on Dorje Shugden, does not put up signs to say No Dorje Shugden practitioner allowed. BUT the CTA who call themselves DEMOCRATIC does... so which government is more FAIR, JUST and GIVES more RELIGIOUS FREEDOM? WHICH one creates infrastructure and WHICH one only creates SEGREGATION? It is OBVIOUS CTA... you really are going down hill with this. On top of that, like SOUR GRAPES you go around asking your cronies to ATTACK and say this 11th Panchen Lama is a FAKE and you ask others to say and keep attacking with the same old stories but it is all falling on to death ears because like it or not, hey we see more than 100,000 people getting blessings and dharma seeds planted in them.

The difference is it is always about Dharma which transcends time and space and NEVER about POLITICS. Hence that is why your CAUSE is weak and it changes because it is based on politics and politics is samsara. And this mean BYE BYE CTA because CTA is politics and it is highly MUTABLE.

If I were you CTA, I would really stop playing the old tricks condemning others and spreading more hate messages as it will make you drift further and further away from your goals to have dialogue with China and to ask China for the middle way approach which His Holiness aims to have with them. It ain't helping when you keep condemning the Big Dragon with such silly counter reasoning. It will just go to further irritate China and no way will they allow Dalai Lama to return to Tibet before his death... sorry. That is if you continue your foolish ways. Time to change as time is very very short CTA.

Despite four prominent Tibetan NGOs in Dharamshala rallied to condemn the event, calling it a “calculated move” to garner legitimacy and “to exert political and social control over Tibetans through the religious institutions, the center of Tibetan life”, as well as Lukar Jam saying that it is China's effort to possibly prodding on a model to establish their proxy religious figures, the Kalachakra initiation went on as planned and concluded successfully.

Tibetans are worried that if China achieves success this time, the next move may be to apply the same methods in launching a fake Dalai Lama in the future. However, nothing can be done to stop the event or China's future plans. The attendance over the four-day period reached as much as 426,000 people. Four LED screens and dozens of loud speakers however made sure that everyone had a front row seat.

Currently serving as the vice president of the Buddhist Association of China, Panchen Lama, 26, has performed 1,000 initiations and benedictions to about 1.5 million Buddhists. Last December, the Panchen Lama Gyancain Norbu celebrated the 20th anniversary of becoming Panchen Lama in Tashi Lhunpo. What is for sure is that when a communist government is heavily involved in conducting the affairs of Tibetan religious traditions, we know that China is serious about this matter and Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) is in no position to stop what China did and wants to do

If the CTA is really serious in stopping this kind of  events, in view that it is the tip of the iceberg and that China may appoint their own Dalai Lama, they can pull the plug on China by lifting the ban on Dorje Shugden.  Then China cannot use that against CTA.

It's a win win situation for all. But, I doubt CTA is willing to pull this rabbit out of the hat.

Dear Grandma Pele

If the CTA is really serious about undermining the China chosen 11th Panchen Lama, they can promote their own Panchen Lama and encourage him to do good.  Why ask people to pay homage to empty throne and publicise it?  I guess they do not want competition to the Dalai Lama influence which is truly does not make sense because the Dalai Lama is so big already. I hardly hear about CTA's choice of the Panchen Lama doing anything at all.

Dear Michela,
In May 1995, Chinese forces abducted six year-old (CTA's & Dalai Lama's choice of) Panchen Lama Gedhun Choekyi Nyima from his home in Tibet. The boy was detained by the Chinese authorities just three days after the Dalai Lama declared him to be the reincarnated Panchen Lama. Though officially atheist, the Chinese Communist Party has long maintained that Gendun Choekyi Nyima is not the real Panchen Lama.

On September 6, 2015, the twentieth anniversary of Gendun Choekyi Nyima’s disappearance, Chinese officials announced that "The reincarnated child Panchen Lama you mentioned is being educated, living a normal life, growing up healthily and does not wish to be disturbed". The Chinese government still refuses to reveal Gedhun's whereabouts or respond to requests from the United Nations and Western governments to check on his wellbeing.
