This is the extract that Peljor the 'monk' transcribed then posted on his wall, inviting people to join in the 'discussion' which was really yet
another excuse to criticise teachers. The irony is that if you listen to the video, the Dalai Lama was pretty clear on the matter. If you disagree with your teacher and find that you can no longer align yourself with his actions and teachings, you should still respect him and, if you must, withdraw yourself from his circle. What does that mean?
Better to withdraw from his circle than to develop wrong view and find even more reasons to criticise and denigrate him because there is so much bad karma involved. Never at any point did the Dalai Lama say, "Go ahead and criticise him." No, the Dalai Lama said to remain neutral.
In fact, the Dalai Lama underscored the importance of the teacher-disciple relationship in Tibetan Buddhism and advised an easy way to avoid destroying this relationship. According to His Holiness, regardless of the reasons, one should never criticise or defame our teachers and even our ex-teachers. But you know, Peljor goes above and beyond all of this (what an overachiever, eh?). Not only does he profusely criticise his ex-teachers, but he sets up entire websites and Facebook pages and groups about them. Great example you set Peljor!
If Peljor were really
that devoted to the Dalai Lama,
why doesn't he follow the Dalai Lama's advice to leave Geshe Kelsang alone? Isn't that what is meant by neutral? Setting up a website, talking about it, encouraging people to discuss and criticise...all of that karma comes back to you because you started it. You goaded and egged them on into collecting negative karma.
Never met anyone so selective with what he chooses to follow so let's not even get into the subject of guru devotion. But then maybe it's not guru devotion and it's all a play, a manipulation, to use the Dalai Lama to get into the limelight. Sure seems that way, what with all of Peljor's centre and teacher swapping, one after another.
No one is ever good enough for Peljor and now, judging from how poorly he follows the Dalai Lama's advice, seems even an actual Buddha isn't good enough for him! to say that Peljor sets a very questionable example for people who look to him for (god forbid) spiritual advice would be an understatement.
Him and the rest of the anti-NKT group should really reconsider their behaviour and assess if it is in alignment with what the Dalai Lama has said. At the present time, all of them are acting squarely against the Dalai Lama's advice, what with their anti-NKT survivor groups. What is there to survive from, if the Dalai Lama himself tells you to distance yourself and
remain neutral? Why keep rehashing the experience over and over again, attacking your ex-teacher in the guise of trying to find a way to 'heal'?
The Dalai Lama himself says very clearly not to attack one's teacher and not to denigrate them. If that's the case, ex-teachers shouldn't be denigrated either...and the very fact they are now your EX-teacher is an indication that the denigration has already taken place. But who are the anti-NKT crowd to lecture people on anything when they themselves don't exactly follow the Dalai Lama's advice? Who died and made them boss? Peljor should really start advising these people right, and start advising them to follow their new teacher's advice before they see a repeat of what happened to their relationship with NKT's leaders.
