KOLKATA: Tibet does not seek independence from China but wants greater development, Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama said here on Thursday.

China and Tibet enjoyed a close relationship, though there were occasional “fights”, he said at an interactive session organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

“The past is past. We will have to look into the future,” he said. He stressed that Tibetans wanted to stay with China.

“We are not seeking independence ..We want to stay with China. We want more development,” the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people said.

The Dalai Lama said China must respect Tibetans’ culture and heritage.

“Tibet has a different culture and a different script... The Chinese people love their own country. We love our own country,” he said.

The Rangzen people must cease all their activities once and for all now, lest they be labeled Chinese spies or traitors. CTA should do their jobs, to ensure this is carried out once and for all.

The Dalai Lama made it very clear, no more independence and it is on online print. Yes Tibetans has had much more economic development, under China, the past 10 years compared to 60 years being in India under the CTA.

Sad to say, there are those that have decided that they "deserve" independence and want a land that they do not fully know anymore. A country is more than the land it lies on. The culture is more than rituals they perform perfunctorily. Heritage is more than bricks and mortars.

The rangzen proponents have decide who will be their leader. If they follow the Dalai Lama, then they should cease their activities and fall in behind the Dalai Lama. Or, are they calling for the Sikyong to usurp that position? Is this what it is all about?

This is obviously not the first time Dalai Lama had said that the official position is not asking for total independence and yet the fact that the Dalai Lama has to repeat again is very telling of the failure of CTA to handle this matter.

Seriously, if CTA has been doing their job, then people won’t be confused as to the issues and also there would be less blatant demonstration of disregard for the official position by people. Not only this leaves a bad impression on the sincerity towards the negotiations but how convinced would China be to negotiate with a party that claims to represent the people yet don’t even have the support of those very people they represent?

Even people within CTA have acted in contravention of the official position and supported Rangzen. Case on point: http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/news/tibetan-mp-juchen-konchok-and-friends-oppose-the-dalai-lamas-middle-way/

It is one thing to ask for being part of China but if you only act against it, how would this ever be possible? Why would China listen to them when there is no effort made to seek a positive dialogue.

All we can see is that people get harassed and called Chinese Dogs, taking Chinese money and so on but no proof of such is shown! Anyone gets attacked and called names and out of the blue accused to work against the Tibetan Cause.

Who is now against the Tibetan Cause and the Dalai Lama?
Who is creating so much pain and suffering for the Tibetans by having a ban against the many Tibetans who practice Dorje Shugden?  :-[

This latest announcement by Dalai Lama should be taken as a wakeup call to Lobsang Sangay and the Tibetan Government to press for the start of peaceful negotiations with China. The situation is made even more acute as the 151st case of self-immolation is reported. The Dalai Lama’s wishes must be fulfilled. There will be no more call to entertain from Rangzen. It’s autonomy, not independence and all should toe the line in response to the Dalai Lama’s call.

Furthermore, the Tibetan Leadership needs its people to be united not divided as it is now between Dorje Shugden practitioners and non-Dorje Shugden people. Uniting its people in the true spirit of democracy, regardless of race or creed, means removing all curbs to religious freedom, chief of which is the ban on Dorje Shugden practice.

What is the Tibetan Government waiting for? There is no time to lose.

It is rather confusing to say the least of the Dalai Lama's wish to be with China and benefit all the development that China is putting into Tibet and yet to keep the Tibetan culture and heritage.

How can that be so?  With development, culture and heritage will need to change to accommodate modernisation.

It is with the same contradiction that prevails in the Dorje Shugden ban.  All Shugden devotees are not allowed to follow the Dalai Lama and ostracised but yet CTA deny there is a ban.

Interesting but effective way to create disharmony and disunity.

Everybody knows China has been developing Tibet, right? Everybody knows China has opened their door for the Tibetan in exile to go back China right? Only CTA doesn't allow his people to go back China. Only those Rangzen people accuse those who goes back China saying they are China spies. I wonder, why nobody come out and say Dalai Lama is China spy this time?

@Richardlaktam, LOL! There's no way the CTA and their cohorts will say anything. Calling the Dalai Lama a Chinese spy is like adding fuel to fire. They are already opposing the Dalai Lama who advocates Umaylam by the sheer fact that they are calling for Rangzen!!! They can go call each other Chinese spies. After all, it takes a thief to know a thief?!?!

It is good news for most Tibetans but I'm not sure about the Dalai Lama's followers because they have been protesting and against China but now Dalai Lama wants Tibet to stay in China. What is going to CTA and President Lobsang Sangay? Losing his job soon? Guess he will need a backup plan a.s.a.p. to get as much fund as possible himself before the CTA is taken down.

@Belinda Mae It is so sad that there are those who proclaim their loyalty to HHDL but still take actions which frustrate HHDL’s effort. How much clearer does HHDL need to be about not seeking full independence yet many still shout and push for Rangzen? And this blatantly include those in CTA who always use HHDL to elicit support from Tibetans and even public at large. http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/news/tibetan-mp-juchen-konchok-and-friends-oppose-the-dalai-lamas-middle-way/

It is quite obvious that CTA’s “full support” for HHDL is selective and only when it is to CTA’s advantage. How is this not jeapardising and harmful to HHDL? As if is it not sufficient they capitalise on Tibetans’ suffering for CTA’s personal gain, CTA continues to use HHDL in that manner too. And ironically CTA claims Dorje Shugden practitioners harming HHDL when CTA is the biggest culprit.

Seriously, if CTA has any conscience, they would immediately stop antagonising China with derogatory remarks and also to cease instigating people especially Tibetans to cast negative imputations towards China, including the defamatory accusations of Dorje Shugden practitioner as Chinese spies. Promoting harmony by lifting the Dorje Shugden ban will also go a long way towards removing the obstacle of China’s mistrust which hinders negotiations.

This is especially bearing in mind HHDL recent efforts on working towards a private visit to China. There have been reports already confirming the discreet visit of Samdhong Rinpoche, now the Dalai Lama’s personal emissary and former prime minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile to Kunming, China. http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/confirmed-dalai-lamas-envoy-samdhong-rinpoche-visited-china/

It is just logical that this is a precursor of something big to come rather than a “private social visit” given the sensitivity of the situation with China. Whatever it may be, just really hope CTA would not continue to covertly sabotage HHDL’s efforts. After all, CTA has demonstrated CTA is fully capable of sabotaging things good for people but not good for CTA, a rather blatant example is how CTA blocked and attempted to frustrate the successful efforts of Tibetans who managed to fight hard themselves for right to apply Indian citizenship. http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/tibetan-leadership-sabotages-indian-citizenship/

It is quite astonishing that many still hold on to the Rangzen movement yet there has not been any success in the independence movement. It is quite a disaster and instead of communicating with China, Rangzen continuously spreads negative talk and accuses everyone to be a Chinese spy, Chinese dog and so on. But what has this brought to the Tibetans? Did it have any positive repercussions for the Tibetans in China and the Tibetans in Exile?

Even recently, there were still people who set themselves on fire but no benefit can be expected from such a sad, harmful and final act. Why are the Rangzen people still go on and blindly accusing people but have no results themselves?

Well, the only way is to follow the Dalai Lama and either get an Indian passport and stay in India or going back to Tibet for Umaylam.

There is no question about what the CTA has to do else than to follow the Dalai Lama's wish. And the Dalai Lama has already taken action. See here: Confirmed: Dalai Lama’s envoy Samdhong Rinpoche visited China
http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/confirmed-dalai-lamas-envoy-samdhong-rinpoche-visited-china/

Let's hope that Tibetans can finally go on with their life and that peace comes back to them.
