Two anti-Tibetan protesters leaders were arrested in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act is an Indian law aimed at effective prevention of unlawful activities associations in India.
I wonder if the CTA was involved in this arrest since they will get the greatest benefit if SUMAA cancels their upcoming protests against Tibetans due to this arrest.
2 SUMAA leaders arrested under AP Unlawful Activities (Prevention) ActITANAGAR, Jul 24: The Itanagar Police on Tuesday arrested the general secretary of Students’ Union Movement of All Arunachal (SUMAA) Suraj Ligu and convenor Tarh Rikham under the provisions of the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2014.
The arrest of the student leaders came in the wake of recent SUMAA movement against the Tibetan refugee issue at Bomdila in West Kameng district.
SUMAA is currently spearheading a movement against the Tibetan refugees in West Kameng district for allegedly having permanent structures outside their designated settlement areas, besides possessing fake trading licenses, permanent residential certificates and scheduled tribes certificates apart from refugee cards.
The students’ body has been demanding for immediate rollback of Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy (TRP) 2014 which provides for 20% job quota, trading licence and land lease rights for Tibetan refugees, besides seeking a written agreement from the Central Tibetan Administration not to claim Indian citizenship, PRC and ST certificates in Arunachal Pradesh, and a Tibetan refugees’ population dossier.
When contacted by EoA, SP Capital M Harsha Vardhan confirmed the arrest of two leaders and informed that they are arrested under Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2014 as per an order from West Kameng district Deputy Commissioner.
The West Kameng District Magistrate has already promulgated a prohibitory order under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Act (CrPC) in the entire district, apprehending likely breach of peace and tranquility in view of SUMAA’s second phase agitation at Bomdila which was scheduled on July 24. The 15-day ultimatum served to the District Administration by SUMAA to verify the backgrounds 14 Tibetans also expired today.
The Capital SP also informed that an extortion case is also registered against SUMAA members at Naharlagun police station. Both the arrested persons are now in Jully jail, said the SP.
The SUMAA activists were seen protesting at Itanagar PS premises this afternoon demanding immediate release of their leaders or else put them all in the lockup. The security at the police station was later tightened with deployment of CRPF personnel.
Later, hundreds of agitated SUMAA activists ‘gheroed’ the Jully jail and reportedly indulged in pelting stones and burning tyres.
OC of Itanagar PS, Inspector T Bage said that the mob in hundreds tried to ransack Jully jail, but was dispersed after CRPF and IRBn personnel’s intervention.
The OC said that the two arrested leaders were produced before the DM, Bomdila through video conferencing and a case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 2014.
