Quote
By Lama Zopa Rinpoche

Kopan, 1973
You may not have heard of the great lama Kachen Yeshe Gyaltsen [1713–93, tutor of the Eighth Dalai Lama] but like the sun illuminating the world, he was well known in Tibet and offered unbelievable benefit to sentient beings and the Buddhadharma. Even now his teachings benefit the world. I have spoken before about how the Kopan meditation courses started but actually, it was Kachen Yeshe Gyaltsen’s teachings that inspired them.

Has anyone found a biography of this lama Kachen Yeshe Gyaltsen , Lama Zopa seems to praise this lama very highly.

Apart from what you mentioned... nothing on google on Kachen Yeshe Gyaltsan so far. It would be nice if someone shares...he seem very much a great master, scholar and was highly revered as an erudite master... otherwise how caould he become the tutor of the 8th Dalai Lama? Would be interesting to know how he aspired and inspired :)

Here are two links. The first is a translation of the liberation life stories of 6 early Gelugpa Siddhas, and includes a lengthy bio about Kachen Yeshe Gyaltsen as he is the one who compiled an extensive work on the Namtar of the lineage Lamas. The second link is for the book Manjushri's Innermost Secret, which is a translation of Yeshe Gyaltsen's extensive Lama Chopa commentary, so it also includes a bio.
