Wisdom Buddha Dorje Shugden's TWO FUNCTIONS

chanced upon this nice blog by someone who calls himself Karmapa Working Dad. Here's a very nice piece about the enlightened functions of Dorje Shugden, which gives a very clear explanation and wonderful perspective of why Dorje Shugden is a Buddha. Here you go, read and discuss!

The function of a Dharma protector is to arrange all the outer and inner conditions of our lives so that everything that happens to us is perfect for our swiftest possible enlightenment.  But Dorje Shugden is more than just a Dharma protector, he is also a wisdom Buddha.  It is not enough to just know that the outer and inner conditions of our life are perfect for our enlightenment, but to be able to take full advantage of these conditions we need to understand and realize directly how (or in what way) they are indeed perfect.  When we have the wisdom which realizes how our conditions are perfect, then we can fully take advantage of them and move most swiftly to enlightenment.  The blessings of Dorje Shugden bestow upon us this wisdom of realizing how the conditions he has emanated for us are in fact perfect.  Then we are not only happy with everything, but can use everything most effectively to advance along the path.

When we realize the emptiness of ourselves, all beings and Dorje Shugden then we realize that his power is not limited to just arranging perfect conditions for ourselves and bestowing upon ourselves the wisdom realizing how our conditions are perfect, but we can also invoke him to accomplish this same function for each and every living being.  We pray to him that he arrange all the outer and inner conditions for each and every being so that whatever happens to them is perfect for their enlightenment.  He can then bestow upon us the wisdom that sees directly how whatever arises in the life of any living being is in fact perfect for their enlightenment.  Then, we can share our point of view with others, helping them to see their lives and challenges as gifts from all the Buddhas designed to quickly deliver them to the bliss of full enlightenment.

From our perspective, Dorje Shugden is the same being as the wisdom Buddha Manjushri.  Manjushri appears in two aspects, as Je Tsongkhapa to lead us along the path and as Dorje Shugden to arrange all the conditions of our practice.  It is therefore impossible to reject one without rejecting the other two.  Since we all agree that Manjushri and Je Tsongkhapa are perfectly reliable Buddhas, since Dorje Shugden is for us just a different aspect of this same being, Dorje Shugden is also perfectly reliable.  We cannot reject him without rejecting the others.  Since we cannot reject the others, we cannot reject him.

Ooh!! I love what is written in this article and it is a totally new perspective on Dharma protectors. Most articles on Dharma protectors is just about how they can help us with our needs and protect us against harm and such, but there is so little on deeper functions. Many people view Dharmapalas as lower, as in they do not teach the Dharma or do anything more than provide conducive mundane conditions, but Dorje Shugden is an enlightened Dharma protector that is also a yidam at the same time. In reality, the Guru, Yidam and Protector is of the same nature, so how can they be not equal when it comes to teaching us and leading us to enlightenment? Thank you so much beggar for such a refreshing post on the true nature of Dorje Shugden, where he can help us practice and strengthen our development of Bodhicitta. This is mind blowing indeed!

Perfect outer and inner conditions do not mean that everything that are arranged by Dorje Shugden would be great and good, it could well be that we have a failure, we have a heartbreak, we have a sickness, we have loses, etc. All these are also considered perfect inner and outer conditions for us to realise impermanence and emptiness.

Dorje Shugden is unique in the sense that he can be our Guru, Yidam and protector, three in one! So embrace all conditions even though it may not be exactly what we pray or wish for! Remember what we pray and wish for may not be ideal for our swift enlightenment.

Thank you, Beggar, for posting this article which reminds us that Dorje Shugden,as Wisdom Protector, is one with Je Tsoongkapa and Manjushri. Thus, besides performing the function of a Dharma Protector, in arranging conducive and perfect conditions for us to attain the swiftest possible Enlightenment, Dorje Shugden also performs a higher function on a Wisdom level. He ultimately bestows upon us the blessings to realize that we have the perfect conditions, including challenging situations like disease and losses and failures, to attain the ultimate bliss of full enlightenment.

Dorje Shugden does not only protect us and create perfect conditions for our practice to enlightenment but also bestow on us the Wisdom to realise and grab this opportunity in this lifetime for enlightenment.

Dorje Shugden is one with Manjushri, Wisdom Buddha.

We have always thought and depended on Dorje Shugden for protection but now we know DS will also bestow wisdom on us.  What an awesome Protector.

Thank you for showing us this aspect on how Dorje Shugden, who is one with the Manjushri on bestowing wisdom to us, the wisdom of realizing emptiness. Dorje Shugden is arose with a special mission to protect the teaching of Tsongkhapa on Nagajurna’s teaching of emptiness and the middle path. With this “function” of Dorje Shugden, the precious teaching of Dharma on emptiness would be able to pass down to us especially during this degeneration era of Buddhism. With realizing emptiness, we can have enlightenment. That’s why Dorje Shugden is so powerful as a Dharma protector for this time.

This is nice. It is more laid back contemporary sharing that I can relate to. Sometimes when the teaching gets technical I get lost. Interesting understanding.

Dorje Shugden will assist us to get closer to Enlightenment. He will smoothen our path so that we don't need to focus on worthy things which will not bring us benefit in the long run.
Yes, He is at the same time Dharma Protector and Buddha of Wisdom.

What a blessing to have the honor to connect to Him.

Since we can rely on the Buddha Manjushri as Lama Tsongkhapa to lead on the path and the Buddha Dorje Shugden as a Protector to arrange the conditions for our practice, we can further rely on our Guru and Buddha Manjushri and the Guru in physical form to instruct us on the finer aspect of the practice.

If we do the above, we will have the inner refuge of Guru, Yidam and Protector so important for our practice and it constitute a perfect compliment of our other refuge of the Guru and the 3 Jewels.
