Throughout the years of the Shugden-ban a number of things really did not make sense. A lot of statements, decision and actions that HHDL took vis-a-vis Dorje Shugden split his own people as well as his Sangka whom he loves, undermined his own authority and credibility, and made himself a target of ridicule and hypocrisy and isolated himself from his teachers.
A lot of Shugden practitioners suffered in the process and there is no doubt about. However as much as I disliked what was happening to the Shugden practitioners, I could not help but think that there is a bigger picture that being played out. A bigger picture that was planned all along. HHDL could not have made such blatant mistakes.
Looking at how China has embraced Buddhism and how the Shugden practice has spread, and also looking at how full of resolve the Shugden practitioners have become, and how Buddhism and Shugden practice have had to find homes in so many foreign countries, and looking at how sites like this dorjeshugden.com have stepped up to turn the tide...all this controversy have been good for the spread of Buddhism and the Shugden practice...I wonder if it brings a sad but contented smile to HHDL's face. Perhaps this had to be done.
If all this was planned by HHDL, then he has absorbed a lot of difficulties unto himself for the good of the Buddha dharma and all sentient beings. How does HHDL, without an army, tackle and subdue an immensely powerful enemy who yields tremendous firepower? An enemy that was totally against religion (Recall Mao's quote" All religion are poison)? By skillful means. By wisdom exercised with guile. And with the co-operation of the great Protector Buddha, Dorje Shugden.
