Dear Forum Readers

I noted in the Illusory Play, the autobiography of the previous incarnation of Trijang Rinpoche, Rinpoche was facing various financial difficulties, getting cheated in businesses, and continue to accumulate debts at the beginning of his carrer.

On the other hand, I notice he was giving several Vaisravana Prosperity Ritual in the treasury of monastery and patrons and hugh offerings to the Sangha wherever he went.  In addition, he kept invoking Gyalchen Dorje Shugden as his protector.

If law of karma is to be revisited and if Vaisravana Prosperity Ritual had any effect at all, and if the Vaisravana Prosperity Ritual had any effect, and if Gyalchen Dorje Shugden was protecting him, he should be immensely rich and no need to worry about money, and should have been able to concentrate on his Dharma practice, teachings, giving initiations, and so forth.

What do you think about this contradiction?

There is no contradiction. HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche became one of the richest, most famous, most well studied, most sought after and enduring Lama eventually in Tibetan History till now.

He was not able to immediately become 'wealthy' in your sense of the word due to the heavy negative karma of his students. If Trijang Rinpoche had 'made it' earlier, more would have been benefitted and sooner. Because the people he was going to benefit have such heavy karma, this prevented Trijang Rinpoche to gain the 'wealth' he needed to help them. Trijang Rinpoche not gaining the wealth prevented him immediately to help those he needed to help. Trijang Rinpoche not gaining 'wealth' is a direct result of the negative karma of the people he was karmically linked to help. It is a direct result of their broken samayas, broken promises and practices they have broken.

So Trijang Rinpoche had to 'suffer' being cheated, debts and difficulties. A true sign of a bodhisattva.

Yes, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche is a living of emanation of Buddha Vajrayogini. Hence, wealth is just an object to him and due to the difference in the level of attainments, we have a very different views of what wealth is when compared to Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche. First of all, for us, wealth is really a source of a lot of attachment and delusions, hence we tend to hoard and be miserly with what we have.

For the ordinary person who has abundant material wealth, he thinks he doesn't have much but to other people, he has a lot. He is also deathly afraid to lose his wealth and therefore employs a lot of people to take care, manage and secure his wealth. He may have a tremendous amounts of wealth but at the point of death, he leaves his body as a pauper. All the miserliness, insecurity and attachment compels him to take a lower rebirth.

Whereas, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche has no regard for material possessions. He only sees it as a means to benefit others. Whatever he receives, he gives it out just like Lama Tsongkhapa. Sometimes, he gives so much and the fact that his assistant did not manage his ladrang well, his ladrang developed occasional financial problems. To the outside person, he seems poor but when you look at the amount of wealth he distributed to -  monasteries, monks and lay people, he benefited so many with gifts and Dharma teachings, he would have been one of the richest person of his era. Therefore, his wealth creates even more causes for him to receive and in turn, he gives it out as well. Therefore, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche passes away richer than when he was born. He has no causes to take a negative rebirth and instead has perfect control of his death and rebirth. Hence, he has what money cannot buy - security and control over death.
