Quote
KOCHI: Addressing the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church centenary celebration on Sunday Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama said India is an example for the world because many religious sects co-exist in the country even today. "Spiritually, the country occupies a very important place and its tradition is relevant today. Harmony can be more effective if love and compassion are practised in daily life. Now everyone talks about money, which is important, but one must not forget peace of mind and spirituality," he said

Addressing the gathering, former president A P J Abdul Kalam said people should embrace a combination that will unite economic prosperity and the spiritual way of life. He also emphasized the importance of imparting moral values during the early years of education.

Releasing a Centenary souvenir on the occasion, chief minister Oommen Chandy said the social responsibility of religious organizations gives stability to society.

Delivering the presidential speech, Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, said that they never wanted quarrels or undue privilege but only justice and the rule of law. "We are a peace loving community. We appeal to the government to act courageously and give justice as per the law of the land and resolve conflicts in the community," he said.

He added that the church would set apart Rs 100 crore for social welfare schemes, including lending a helping hand to heart and cancer patients, building home for the homeless and provide financial aid to poor students.

Union minister K V Thomas, Hibi Eden, Vellapally Natesan, Archbishop Dr Mar Aprem Metropolitan, Chaldean Syrian Church of the East in India, Rev Thomas K Ommen, Church of South India and mayor Tony Chammany were present at the venue.

Yes India please take note that there is religious suppression amongst Dorje Shugden supporters do not let your thousand year traditions and customs be spoilt by the CTA black sheep. There is religious suppression happening under the nose of the Indian government and Indian soil how can this happen?  How can Mother India possible let this happen?

It is India's reputation at sake here, Indians have the right to protect their age old customs of multireligious , mulisystems of beliefs!

More Indian people are finding out about Dorje Shugden.

DHARAMSHALA: In charge of local police station has received an anonymous parcel from Singapore which questions the role of Dalai Lama and the deities in Tibetan freedom struggle. While the police officers are not clear on how to deal with the parcel contents, which also contained a video DVD, a security officer of the Tibetan administration said that it was a bid to mar reputation of Dalai Lama and disrupt affairs of the Shugden community.

"We received the parcel on Tuesday evening. It contains a DVD and a letter and the text at the bottom reads - DorjeShugden.net. We are probing the matter," said superintendent of police Diljeet Singh Thakur. The letter reads: "We write to you because this concerns the freedom of Tibet. Please watch the DVD video." The DVD contains a TV news report of June 2009 and talks about prophecies of Dalai Lama and Tibetan future.

The Singaporeans are doing a great job!

Breakaway Tibetan Buddhists threaten the Dalai Lama
http://www.hindustantimes.com/Punjab/Chandigarh/Breakaway-Tibetan-Buddhists-threaten-the-Dalai-Lama/SP-Article1-968931.aspx

Quote
After remaining dormant for five years, the dissident group in the Tibetan community in exile has once again started its covert activities in Dharamsala town.
Dharamsala police received a parcel from followers of Dorje Shugden containing anti- Dalai Lama literature and a video
CD.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Kangra G Siva Kumar, while confirming the news, said the some unknown person had been the parcel from Singapore.

"The parcel contains a pamphlet and a video CD," said Kumar, adding that there was nothing threatening in the contents.

"In the pamphlet and CD, questions have been raised over the efforts being made by the Dalai Lama and Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) for the freedom of Tibet and have alleged that proper path was not followed to achieve autonomy and independence," said Kumar. The Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile have also been accused of discriminating against Shugden devotees, added Kumar.

He said the CD contained a news clipping aired by a French channel in 2009. Meanwhile, SP Kangra, Diljeet Thakur said that security at the Dalai Lama's residence had been cautioned.

Shugden devotees are among the most violent fundamentalist groups among the exiles. One of their groups, Dorje Shugden Devotees Charitable and Religious Society (DSDCRS) has its headquarters in Delhi. In Feb1997, three Tibetan Buddhist monks, including the Dalai Lama's close associate, Lobsang Gyatso, who was opposed to Shugden-worship, were brutally murdered in Dharamsala. It was widely held that the perpetrators were monks loyal to Shugden.

The Indian police had identified and charged DSDCRS members of the triple murder and Interpol had issued a red corner notice against two accused in June 2007.

In 2008, an organisation named Western Shugden Society (WSS) had begun a campaign directed at the Dalai Lama. Picketing the venues where he was to appear around the world, they claimed that he was banning them from practicing their own lineage of Buddhism.

May this year, when the Dalai Lama apprehended a "poison plot" by the Chinese intelligence agencies, the Tibetan government in exile had felt threatened from fundamentalist groups backed by Chinese authorities. The CTA had asserted that efforts of the spiritual leader to reform and democratise the Tibetan society had emboldened certain fundamentalists within the community.

Shugden Dorje
Dorje Shugden is a controversial deity within Tibetan Buddhism. He is primarily associated with two influential lamas of the Gelugpa school of Tibet: Pabongka Rinpoche and Trijang Rinpoche. The Dalai Lama is the current head of the Gelugpa sect. Dorje Shugden is viewed by some as a protector and by others, including the Dalai Lama, as an 'evil and malevolent force'. In 1996, the Dalai Lama disassociated himself from the worshippers of Dorje Shugden and had appealed to the Tibetan community not to worship Shugden.

I have to say being in the Singapore city state you can see how organised and modern these people there is a drop of them in the ocean and they can do so much. This is a war against ignorance and superstition. Relying on Nechung instead of Dorje Shugden its like a dog versus the Mountain there is no competition at all.

Truthfully I am not sure how to take the Dalai Lama's advice on India. On the one hand, India is a model of true democracy and allows a wide range of religion to be practiced and propagated in the great nation. On the other hand, the persecutions of Dorje Shugden practitioners on Indian soil, right under the noses of Indian authorities make me wonder if they are truly about freedom of religion and whether they value the principals of justice and human rights. I still find it bewildering that after such a long time, India has not even uttered a word about the issue.

As for Indian media, I do not see how it is fair to continue to tag and infer Dorje Shugden to be a practice that encourages violence. If a band of murderers were caught and all happened to be Hindu, will the same paper refer to them as members of the dangerous Hindu community? Certainly not. That parcels with clear evidence had to be sent to the Indian police is a sign that Shugden practitioners do have genuine grievances and have hard evidence to prove it.

India needs to be clear that Shugden practitioners are not their enemy nor are Shugden people causing potentially explosive problems with China for India. On the other hand, the CTA that has enjoyed the patronage of India continue to incite unrest that will be played out along the China-India borders such as Sikkim. Not only that, in labeling Dorje Shugden practitioners to be Chinese spies, the CTA turned Indian authorities against them. If indeed they are Chinese spies, why not go back to Tibet Autonomous Region now and practice their religion openly rather than live stateless poverty and fear under the CTA?

India should also remember clearly that it is not the Shugden practitioners who colluded with the Chinese to poteantially hand over Sikkim to the Chinese once the Chinese approved Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley takes over the Rumtek seat. The people who may yield Sikkim to Chinese are the same people who banned Dorje Shugden, that is the CTA.

Oh my. I wonder how much did CTA bribe the newspaper to make such a report. In my country, misinformation like that can be quite a big thing that everyone would frown upon.

ACCUSED OF DISCRIMINATING AGAINST SHUGDEN DEVOTEES? But they are discriminating against Shugden devotees. Its a fact and not an accusation. Has the standard of journalism dropped to a new low in India, or is this part of CTA's ploy to mislead more people? The journalist also failed to note that there was virtually no evidence linking the DSDCRS members to the murder. What happened was that the CTA fabricated evidence and presented it to the indian police just to get DSDCRS members into trouble with the Indian authorities. The members were released after no proof was found and no arrests were made. Funny how it is obvious that the journalist is bribed to write such horrible, biased reporting.

India needs to be aware of what is happening within their own borders.

The actions of CTA is frowned upon, Tibet was once a Buddhist nation is now represented by CTA who oppress their own people and Buddhists who happend to have devotion to Dorje Shugden. Shame Shame!

CTA is a pale shadow and representation of the Gaden Phodrang established by the great Fifth, they bring no progress, cannot engage with China in whatever format. The word impotent comes to mind. The more the CTA has no results the more the Indians will take note of the skeleton in the closet.

Yeah but amidst your insults of impotence (ouch) DharmaSpace dont you think that the Gaden Phodrang flourished because they had no distractions? Meaning the current CTA are faced with greater challenges than the Gaden Phodrang who only had to contend with Tibetan issues, and not foreign issues? Back then, Tibet was so isolated, it was a matter of practising Dharma and thats it.

Of course you can always argue that given the a higher level of exposure amongst Tibetans now, they SHOULD in general be able to cope better with foreign issues...but someone has to ask tough questions. Is it fair to say the CTA are incompetent when compared to the Gaden Phodrang when they both exist in very different times?

It is true that the CTA and Ganden Phodrang are now operating in very different spheres. It was only relatively recently that the spiritual and secular leadership has been divided. Previously the Dalai Lama was both spiritual and political head of Tibet. It was only in March 2011, that the 14th Dalai Lama decided to 'step down' from his political position (http://www.dorjeshugden.com/forum/index.php?topic=1098.0) and even though he has stepped down, he is actually still wielding power from his throne. Why i say this is that despite Dr Lobsang Sangay being a nice guy and all, he is a paper pusher - he is a harvard fellow who has never had any experience actually leading a government - or administration so how can he possibly lead the CTA?

Perhaps they needed an inexperienced leader of the CTA so that the Dalai Lama can continue to call the shots, although for outward purposes, it looks like the Dalai Lama is no longer political. Why do i say that the Dalai Lama is still calling the political shots for Tibetans in exile? It is because of the Dorje Shugden issue - plain and simple. If the Dalai Lama was really no longer involved in politics, the CTA could immediately dissolve the ban on Dorje Shugden practice and in one swoop, show that 1. the CTA is independent of the Dalai Lama 2. the CTA treats all Tibetans equally, no matter what religious affiliations.

So it is really easy for the CTA to establish themselves with some credibility - if they choose to do so, don't you think?

Actually, the Dalai Lama "praising" India is to get on India's good side. The Dalai Lama has to do this to keep the Indians happy and on the side of the CTA and the Tibetans. Because look at how little that the CTA has given back to India for the decades that India has so kindly hosted them for free? This is the reason why the Dalai Lama has made so many positive comments about India, although this job really falls under the sikyong's duty to do. In any case, HHDL has successfully pacified India into thinking that HHDL and CTA are their ally and are on their side, rather than refugees.

Yes! It does sound easy enough when we think about it this way, doesn't it? I'm not sure how easy it really would be for the Tibetans to 'operate' and rule without the Dalai Lama though, considering how many centuries they have looked to him as the leader of all their affairs - political and spiritual. I had thought that perhaps Lobsang Sangye and the CTA DO want to come into their own, make the right political decisions for their own people. But I have also wondered how 'easy' it would be for them to really do this? Perhaps some of them have a spiritual relationship with the Dalai Lama also, and going against his word even in a secular sense would be to break samaya.

I recall this video I saw on an article, where members of the Tibetan government are asked what they think about Nechung's prediction on the Tibet's freedom. They are very reluctant to speak. (see it here: http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/news/tibets-freedom-is-near/)  Is this because they are merely camera shy? Or is it more because they dare not really speak? Most politicians are very verbal, very quick to make a statement... these government representatives are very, very quiet, reticent, hesitant. I think it may well be because anything that they really feel is to go against the official line and can be considered to be against the Dalai Lama.

So while they may very well want to make a change, upturn previous laws and start anew, how possible and feasible is it really?

The Dalai Lama is not exactly involved anymore in politics, but his influence is still pretty strong amongst the Tibetans. He might not be their political leader but he is still their spiritual leader. The problem with CTA isnt the Dalai Lama, but how they choose to enforce their brand of beliefs on a secular level to others and make it something like a divine edict where the secular government 'upholds' the religious edict: this should stop. CTA should stop doing that because it would only make the CTA look backwards in the eyes of the world. How they want to progress is really up to them and no one else at the end of the day and if they choose not to progress, it is their loss too.
