Dear Namdrol,

Thanks for posting this very rare incense offering prayer for us. One of my friend who doesn't really read English been looking for this for the longest time... One of my teacher actually encourage me to do this special incense offering to Dorje Shugden whenever I need to accomplish any big event, and I feel it works...

I think this prayer is call "Sangsol" in Tibetan, and sangsol prayer is very powerful in order to clear obstacles or purified some area (area that we feel spooky). This is very short and easy prayer that allow us to do whenever we are free.

It will be very good to combine sangsol prayer and serkym (golden drink) prayer if someone from our family is very sick and in life threatening sickness or maybe sometime we are not vey confident to make certain decision, we can also offer this prayer before we proceed, and I promise you it works very fast.

I will definitely print this prayer out and give it to my friend, and I know Dorje Shugden will solve her problem.

That is correct Whitelion. The combination of Sangsol and Serkym is very effective. In fact I was told that after Gyalchen Shugden commissioned the formation of the Chushi Gangdruk, the special Tibetan militia formed to escort the Dalai Lama in his escape out of Tibet, the Chushi Gandruk made Sangsol and Serkym
offerings daily in the early hours of the morning, asking for the Protector to make the Dalai Lama's passage safe and evidently it worked.

Apparently the oldest Sangsol text was compossed by Padmasambava when he went to Tibet in the 8th century, and was hidden for some reason, and waited to be found at the right time. Two centuries later two tertons, or discoverers of termas, found the text and revealed it. It is based on this terma that many Sang offerings for the Nyingma, Kagyu and Sakya sects are composed. At the time of the Third Dalai Lama, a Lama by the name of Yeshe Wangpo composed the Gelugpa version of sang offering text. Then three works were composed on this by Panchen Lobsang Chogyen and a third by the Fifth Dalai Lama.

However, one of the most highly recognized Sangsol prayer was written by the great Serkong Dorje Chang. I am not sure if it is the same version as the Chinese/Tibetan one posted here:

Hum, visualizing myself as the yidam, from the heart,
Light emanates clearing all faults from incense,
Scent having the five desirable qualities complete in perfection,
Granting uncontaminated bliss fills the extent of awareness.

Om Ah Hum (repeat as many times to bless)

Hum, Root and lineages gurus, Three Jewels,
Dakas, Dakinis and Dharma Protectors,
Especially Dorje Shugden and retinue,
By boundless magical power come here.

Also, birth, warrior and patron deities
Local deities, spirits and guardians with the eight classes,
Assembly of guests worthy of offering please come here.
Each happily dwelling on their seats
For the sake of fulfilling the yogi’s entrusted activities
Outer, inner clouds of offerings, commitment substances and presents,
Accept these and accomplish the entrusted activities.

Kye!
Agar, sandalwood, six medicinal ingredients and plants,
By the smoke cloud from the burning wisdom fire
Completely filling the sky
Purifies the root and lineage lamas, yidams and Three Jewels.
Purifies the dakas, dakinis and dharma protectors.

Purifies especially the Chief Dharma Protector of Conqueror Manjunatha
Dorje Shugden and four cardinal emanations.
Purifies birth, war and five patron gods.
Purifies local deities, spirits, guardians and the eight classes.

By the power of offering incense to worthy guests
May all obscurations of quarrel and samaya be purified.
May lifespan, merit and power all increase.
Pacify all diseases to humans and animals, famine, war and dispute.

May the crops be good and the rain be timely.
Conquer classes of demons of the dark side, increase the positive,
And having befriended spontaneously and effortlessly
Attain all goals just as wished.

Ki ki so so, Lha gyel lo!

Hum! Being pleased and satisfied, guests return to their abodes
Returning again upon request for activities.
By this virtue may I myself and all mother beings
Have perpetual auspiciousness of happiness and benefit.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but doesnt sangsol mean incense offering? And whitelion is right, it is a very powerful prayer that is done in order to dispel obstacles. Whenever things get challenging in a way where it is not necessary, I would do this prayer and things would either get easier or i would suddenly find the solution to the issue.  It is however very nice to have this prayer in Chinese, I have some Chinese relatives and I could just tell them to do this prayer whenever they are in trouble. Best way to plant the seeds of the King in their mindstreams. Thanks a lot Namdrol!
