This is fodder news for people who do not really understand Buddhism and is a reflection of the mindset of this age. In any Buddhist school, the 3 Jewels are the Buddha, Dharma and the Sangha. Buddhas are fully enlightened beings and are regarded as the teacher of and the ones that brought the Dharma. Dharma are the teachings itself and is considered the truth. The Sangha are usually ordained monks and are high practitioners of the Dharma.
The fodder news in this "crisis" are about the monks especially on the senior monks and even abbot of certain monasteries and about certain misbehaviors. There are a number of angles to from.
Firstly, from the outside observer, we cannot confirm these misbehavior. Even, in secular law, the onus is to prove the accused's wrong doing.
Secondly, even if these accused are proven guilty, we cannot confirm the accused motivations. We have to see the results of these actions if it bring positive or negative results. It is rather complex sometimes.
Finally, even if these accused did these acts for their own gain ie abusing their position and power, we must not make a sweeping statement about the Sangha and Buddhism in general. Honestly, we should not be surprised even if these acts are true for this is the nature of human beings and samsara.
This my friends is the Dharma/truth.
