China reacting Prayers for HHDL
« on: March 19, 2013, 11:26:10 AM »
Interesting... Reading this news reminds me of how DS lamas are bringing Tibetans back to Tibet (http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/the-controversy/how-the-shugden-lamas-are-bringing-tibetans-back-to-tibet/)... I suppose, with all respect, HHDL wont be bringing Tibetans back any time soon.

DHARAMSHALA, March 19: Chinese authorities have effaced a traditional Tibetan prayer for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, written on a rock face near the Nyitso Zilkar Monastery in Tridu region of Kyegudo, eastern Tibet.

According to an exile monk, Lobsang Sangyal, the inscriptions on the rock, made on top of carved mantras, appeared on March 10, coinciding with the 54th Tibetan National Uprising Day.

“As soon as the local Chinese authorities came to know about the inscriptions, they termed the incident as ‘political’ and dispatched security personnel to erase the prayer,” Sangyal told Phayul.

The prayer, ‘Gangri rawei korwei shingkham su …’ an ancient Tibetan hymn, calls for the “reign of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to endure till the end of existence.”

Sangye added that details about the incident were not immediately known as Chinese authorities had warned local Tibetans against placing international calls.

“Tibetans in the Tridu region were called for a meeting by local Chinese government officials before March 10 and were ordered not to establish contact with the outside world,” Sangyal said. “They further said that all international calls were being monitored and recorded.”

Recently, a monk at the Nyitso Zilkar monastery, Lobsang Jinpa, 31, who was hospitalised last year after suffering severe beating and torture in Chinese police custody was rearrested and sentenced to five years in prison.

On February 8, last year, around 400 monks from the Zilkar monastery had led a protest march to Zatoe town with banners, written in blue and red ink, symbolic of the two protector deities of Tibet, calling for the Dalai Lama’s return, release of Tibetan political prisoners including the XIth Panchen Lama and respect for Tibetan lives.

The march, which was later joined by a large number of local Tibetans, coincided with the global solidarity vigil called by the exile based Central Tibetan Administration.

You know, I know quite a lot of Dorje Shugden practitioners who were oppressed by the Dorje Shugden ban but they continue to recite this prayer each time they perform prayers because they believe the Dalai Lama to be truly Chenrezig. They may not agree with the ban but they still have deep respect for the Dalai Lama and they just don't understand the reason or even the intention of the Dalai Lama in instituting this ban. To me, this shows the amazing faith of Dorje Shugden practitioners and that they will undergo so much in the name of their Guru and practice and still harbor no ill will against anyone. I am extremely inspired by this.

There's a simple reason as to why Dorje Shugden practitioners still see the Dalai Lama as Chenrezig and still respect him despite the ban: Because Trijang Rinpoche has already told us to respect the Dalai Lama no matter what happens and to never hate the Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama. It cant be that we follow all of Trijang Rinpoche's advice but skip that one just because its more convenient to hate the Dalai Lama, right?

The prayers on the rock in Tibet is really more of an act of trying to defy the Chinese government and of course it will be met with strong punishment. I dont really like phayul's way of making it sound like the Tibetans are being prosecuted when it is because the Tibetans are breaking the laws of the land blatantly, just because they couldnt care less about people around them and the government.

Indeed... true practitioners should NEVER disrespect HHDL EVER or anyone for that matter. The ban though very tough on many is also benefiting much more in the long run especially through its publicity however negative it may seem.

Since we do not have the clairvoyance nor the foresight to understand or comprehend the purpose of the ban in its totality, let us not shoot ourselves in the foot with our righteousness... and practice what we Buddhist hold dear, compassion!

Like what they say, negative publicity is still publicity. Even though Dorje Shugden is being touted as a spirit by the Dalai Lama, it is still publicity as mentions of the Dalai Lama giving teachings and mentioning Dorje Shugden will still make people search for Dorje Shugden online and prompt them to investigate. But like what I have said, if the Dalai Lama was really against Dorje Shugden, he would have erased all traces of him to be eradicated from monastic texts, much like how the Pope has did for Christianity. He would not be spending so much time "banning" Dorje Shugden. A clean, quick purge would have been faster.

It is not surprising that the Chinese reacted to this - the stability of Tibet is at stake and they, like any country in the world, wish to keep the peace, especially as China is such a huge country. If one area is allowed to revolt, or even threaten to revolt, other parts of China may also do so. The Dalai Lama is a legend in Tibet, even though he has left Tibet over 50 years ago and a new generation has come up since then. China has an uphill task to erase the status of the Dalai Lama among Tibetans. On the other hand, the Dalai Lama has no hope of ever seeing Tibet again unless perhaps, the CTA manages to make friends with China http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/features/operation-make-friends/ That would be quite a novel but practical solution!

I dont think the ego of the CTA will permit them to make friends with China. They seem to be unable to understand what is it to forgive and to make amends and to be friendly. Well, as long as they are not truly open to China, there will be no progress in whatever talks they have with China, no matter how much they lie to the world that they are "trying" hard to enter in talks with China. Sometimes I wonder if the western media has their own agendas to report a biased story, but most likely, they do have an alternative agenda of trying to make China look bad (which is not surprising) which is why most westerners do not have a balanced view of what is happening in Tibet.

Dear Ensapa,

You're probably right with regard to the ego of the CTA. Though at the rate they are going, they are not achieving their intended goal of an autonomous, if not independent, Tibet. Why? Because Tibet is in the spirit of its people. Geography is irrelevant. Tibetans are spread out all over the world now and many of the new generation have never stepped on Tibetan soil, including Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay. How on earth would they know the pulse of Tibet which is in China? They should instead be consolidating the Tibetan spirit - they should be looking for ways to unite Tibetans and not divide, which they are doing via the Dorje Shugden ban. Dorje Shugden is predicted to be the next Protector of Tibet, and if the Dalai Lama and CTA allow him to play his part, who knows what will happen to Tibet - or at least the Tibetan community?

As for the Western media, of course they have their own agenda. The west is generally anti-China because it is a threat to the balance of power with US being the strongest. China's rapid growth and financial clout is making a mockery of the west and the balance of power in the world is predicted to shift to the east from the west. As the famous Chinese saying goes - we are living in interesting times.

One thing is for sure which does not even require the power of clairvoyance to see. If the Dalai Lama and CTA were to lift the ban it would immediate close the chasm that currently prevents many high and influential Tibetan lamas from lending their influence to the Tibetan cause from which they are presently barred. Imagine the Dalai Lama together with Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche, Gangchen Rinpoche, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, not to mention the ties to the masters of the other lineages (e.g. the Dalai Lama's close relationship with the Chinese enthroned Karmapa Ogyen Trinley) that would be consolidated. Not only would several bridges be instantly available to the CTA to re-establish friendly relations with China, the Tibetan cause would also benefit by being able to tap into the network of influential lamas like Geshe Kelsang and Gangchen Rinpoche. When the masters unite, their students and supporters and networks unite as well. Is there any doubt that the support towards the CTA's work will be galvanized many times over?

Even on a practical level the terrible decision to effect a religious ban robbed the Tibetan people of quite a force they would otherwise have been. And this is to say nothing about the positive karmic energy that would be generated as the result of the successful harmonizing of the Tibetan Buddhist Sangha. Everyone recognizes the economic power of China but people forget the tremendous power of a cause driven by a common religion or faith. Faith has won wars where canons fail and if the Dalai Lama and the CTA were to unite and approach China as one, and from the Buddhist perspective, surely they would also receive support from the Buddhist masters and practitioners within the Chinese government itself.

Thus far the CTA is not only not playing to its strength, it is actively weakening its own pillars. For the CTA to continue to isolate Shugden lamas and practitioners in the face of its weakening stance against China's growing power, says only one thing. That, to the CTA their highest agenda is not as they proffered to the Tibetan people, which is to return them to their country peacefully and to create the opportunity for the Dalai Lama to set foot in the Potala Palace again. If that is the case, then the CTA has committed treason against its own people for collectively the Tibetan people only have one hope which they have carried for a half century.

To echo in on this, I really do believe that the ban has robbed the CTA of more capable people. If you come to think of it, the few Rinpoches that are serving in the CTA are unable to do much compared to those who are not in CTA. I am more than inclined to believe that CTA is a lot weaker without Dorje Shugden's help, and also a whole lot weaker without all the illustrious Lamas who practice Dorje Shugden and build monasteries all over the world such as Gangchen Rinpoche, Gonsar Rinpocje, Trijang Rinpoche, Serkong Tritul Rinpoche and so on. Just look -- after the initial monasteries in CTA were re-established, what other huge projects have they done for the monasteries, or for Dharamsala alone?

Every time , something like this happens - even the carving of devotional prayers to HH Dalai Lama on a rock - the reaction of the Chinese government is instantaneous. They label it as 'political' and immediately there is a witch hunt for culprits and then some further action like cutting off 'international support'(which is the mildest reaction) or the arrest and harsh punishment of perpetrators of these acts. We have seen this happening in reaction to protest marchers, calling for the freedom of Tibet and the return of the Dalai Lama. We have seen this too as self-immolations by Tibetans continue to grow in number. The sum total of all this is that the hope of the Tibetans for a free and independent Tibet grows dimmer by the day and the chasm between the Chinese and the Dalai Lama grows wider.

This is in total contrast to what we have seen happening with highly compassionate Lamas who revere the Dalai Lama and want Tibetan Buddhism to continue to flourish and spread, both in Tibet and outside of Tibet  - in China, in Asia and in the Western countries. For theirs is the way of peace and of winning the confidence of the Chinese as well as other people in other countries. These great Lamas have, with the aid of Dorje Shugden (and in defiance of all the ostracism by CTA and anti-Shugdenists, and threats on their lives and safety) worked untiringly to teach and spread the Dharma of Je Tsongkhapa . Their efforts have born fruit, even in China. Every time I see a picture of Lama Jampa Ngodrup Rinpoche teaching the Lamrim to a sea of eager listeners, my heart is filled with joy.

Well noted Ensapa. To compare, the CTA had the full backing of the Dalai Lama, the Indian Government and the support of many governments around the world. On the other hand, the Shugden lamas had little in terms of assistance and many had to start from scratch, for example Kundeling Rinpoche who had his entire Ladrang and assets taken from him.

Is it not ironic that worshippers of a supposed "demon" have been more successful in spreading the Dharma than the Tibetan government in spite of the obstacles thrown at them by the CTA? But this should hardly be surprising because the Protector Dorje Shugden have after all sworn to provide whatever assistance is required in order for true practitioners to spread the truth of the Buddhadharma. How could so much be accomplished if it weren't for the complete faith the Shugden lamas had in the Protector, and the divine help that has been promised?

The future of the Tibetan people does not lie in the sullied hands of the politicians in Dharamsala. With impure motivations, these people do not have the karma to take the people back to their homeland. It is very much in the the Shugden lamas and practitioners that the answer is to be found. They have continued to practice the Dharma and it is only on the strength of Dharma that the Tibetan cause can be accomplished. Therefore all Tibetans must reconcile their minds to the fact that they have to return in allegiance to the very Dharma protector sworn to the task, and make confessions and amends. The Tibetans have relied on just about everything and everyone elese but Dorje Shugden. If this Buddha can see to the Dalai Lama's safe escape from Tibet, he can certainly see to His Holiness's return. It is really as simple as that.

It is no surprise that the China is reacting this way to protect the harmony and peace of the country. However, this also opens up a channel for the Shugden lama and teaching to be able to get into China and bring Buddhism to China. That may be the big picture of the ban.
I have heard that in Chatrng, Tibet, the practice of Dorje Shugden is very strong and alive. The monasteries and Buddhist institutions are receiving support from the Government of China. Please check out the beautiful videos here: http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/the-controversy/four-important-videos/
May Buddhism and protector practice flourish in the land of snow and all over the world and bring blessings to everyone!

I doubt that they will ever be able to return to their homeland. The CTA has created many many things over the past few decades that prevents them from regaining their homeland from a karmic point of view. From a more realistic point of view the CTA has only been doing things that benefit themselves and not the community in Dharamsala. What community projects has the CTA done for anyone there in Dharamsala? The Tibetans have to first give up their hate towards China before they can do any talks with China, because their hypocrisy can be sensed by China and China isnt that tricked easily.
