The Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs Ministry considers its teaming up with the Economic Development Ministry in a joint endeavour to promote Buddhism throughout the world as a major victory, Prime Minister and Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs Minister D M Jayaratne said.

The Prime Minister said this participating in a ceremony at the Kotte Parliamentary Complex to mark the distribution of the book "Why Worry"authored by late Dr. Kirille Sri Dhammananda Thera among hotels in Sri Lanka recently.

When tourists visiting Sri Lanka feel lonely and confined to hotel rooms, they could easily get over their boredom by reading books of this nature and also understand the essence of Buddhism.

It is rejoicing news indeed!  Putting books in the hotel rooms for the reading pleasure of hotel guests is common in many countries.  I am surprised it is only caught on in Sri Lanka now as reported in this article!  Sri Lanka is very rich in the teachings of the Theravada tradition.  It would be very beneficial to share and spread the teachings of Buddha with interested hotel guests. The hotels in Sri Lanka could have done more to promote Buddhism for example the Vippassana meditation since Buddhism is mainly practised in Sri Lanka.

Buddhist try to spread Buddha's teachings everywhere. They want it to be noticeable as possible everywhere
and anywhere if they  have the opportunity to do so.It is a great idea to put Buddhist books in hotel rooms as it may help every living being if they have really a pure heart and mind to believe that they trust the teachings of the Buddha. This is also a good way to present the Dharma in a way reachable to the minds of people with different religious beliefs.

DS.com has an on-line shop with merchandise related to Dorje Shugden.  Wouldn't it be great to place the comic books and brochures in the hotels as well?  I remember that many hotels were "promoting" the Bible, wherein a copy is provided in the hotel rooms for guests.

Why limit to only books and brochures? Maybe leave a pendant or two for the guests to bring home?

This is indeed good news to be rejoiced! If bible and other religious can be placed in hotels, why not Buddhist text? The hotel doesn't choose its customer therefore providing reading materials for its customer is doing good service. Some of the customers are traveling for work and there is definitely some amount of stress from work and away from home. Providing them good Buddhist reading materials can relief their mind of the stress.

This is great!!! Very happy indeed to find out that the government of Sri Lanka is making an effort to promote Buddhism. This will definitely set a very good example for other countries to follow and hopefully it will inspire and created a sparks which leads to different ways of spreading the Dharma. Great news indeed. Perhaps there will be a Buddhist Channel too in the near future with all the great teachings by all the great masters around the world. Imagine that...

Very good idea! How wonderful to be able to spread Buddhism through other means. It may not be a book just about meditation or about Buddhism, it can be anything related to means of practicing without even knowing it. Eg. being kind, forgiving, letting go, helping others. Well, Buddha did teach 80 over thousand ways to suit the many minds. Hey, maybe we can also do the same thing, instead of just Sri Lanka. We can get sponsorship of similar books and put them in cafes, restaurants, libraries, etc.

I really like the suggestions of Jessie Fong: have pendents in hotel for guests to take away! We usually have complimentary drinks in hotel room for guests, why not have pendents for guests to take away too? The pendents should also be accompanied by short booklets too. Wow! I am so excited about this.. imagine how many people can benefit from this!!

Anyone who is interested in putting pendents in hotel rooms can contact shop.dorjeshugden.com and I am sure they can give better price for pendents :)
