I praying that the Tibetans in exile will not agree with the Sikyong on this, and either remain in exile in their current countries of exile or request political asylum in a Western democracy. It has been obvious to me since the Dalai Lama recognized the Chinese backed Karmapa, whom apparently the DL had indicated could succeed him as leader (elected, I suppose? Or appointed by the communist party?) that he was planning to return to China under communism. Please understand, I am not commenting here on who is a Buddha or not among these lamas; sometimes enlightened lamas manifest with very unusual activity; however, the current communist regime of China still does not allow anything approaching freedom of religion; they allow some religious practice, but of course, not from Party members, who control the state. In Buddhist terms, I would say I view my current freedoms and endowments as too precious to give up, so if someone told me to go live in a state where they were constantly interfering with Buddhadharma, I would not do it. Get through this life in exile and pray that no one be reborn there until the government has loosened up. I am not saying life in exile appears fun, but I can't imagine voluntarily returning to a communist state where my freedom half of "freedom and endowments" would be virtually non-existant.
