Listening to the words of HH Dalai Lama, one is reminded again of the many contradictions within this very strange situation of HH Dalai Lama making an exception of allowing Trijang Rinpoche to practice Shugden, while, at the same time, not allowing anyone else who wishes to take initiations from him(Dalai Lama) to practice Shugden. HH Dalai Lama cites the reason for not allowing others to practice Shugden as that of maintaining a 'pure' guru-disciple relationship.
If maintaining a pure guru-disciple relationship matters, why isn't HH Dalai Lama maintaining one with his guru, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, who gave him the Shugden practice? Why did he abandon the practice and put a ban on it? Then, again, why did he make an exception with the incarnation of his guru, the current Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche and allow him to practice? Hence, one still has to place all of this in the context of a bigger picture.
