HH the Dalai Lama moves to HH Penor Rinpoche's monastery?
« on: August 04, 2013, 01:47:51 PM »
I thought this news was interesting. HH the Dalai Lama is moving to Karnataka? In a Nyingma Monastery? Although it is the Nyingma Monastery of HH Penor Rinpoche, who famously offered to let Dorje Shugden practitioners seek refuge in his monastery because of the ban. I am sure the Dalai Lama knew of this, and yet he chooses to make HH Penor Rinpoche's monastery his home? How interesting.

His Holiness seeks southern comfort: Dalai Lama may spend two months a year in Karnataka for health reasons

An alternative seat for the Dalai Lama is to be set up at Namdroling Nyingmapa monastery in Karnataka's Mysore district so that the exiled spiritual leader of the Tibetans can fulfil all his spiritual and temporal duties when he spends up to two months at a time there for health reasons.

Sources said the Tibetan government-in-exile has contacted the Union ministry of home affairs on the subject.
His Holiness has been known to visit the southern state in the past.

Sources said the Tibetan government-in-exile and the Indian government are worried about the ageing Dalai Lama, who turned 78 in July, and don't want to take any risk.

Neither McLeodganj nor Dharamsala have specialised health services of the kind that may be needed given the age of the Nobel peace laureate. The hill town lacks emergency airlift services and only has weekly flight services from Delhi which, in reality, are of irregular frequency as the weather in the mountainous area is often hazardous.

The Dalai Lama's private secretary stressed the spiritual leader was hale and hearty. "Rumours about the Dalai Lama's health are baseless. He is healthy. Whether the Dalai Lama goes there will be decided only by him," said Tenzin Taklha, the Dalai Lama's private secretary.

Namdroling Nyingmapa monastery has been chosen as the alternative, fully functional seat of the Dalai Lama.
The monastery is located in Kushi Nager of Mysore district, 110 km from Bangalore.

This monastery is also known as the Golden Temple and, being one of the largest Buddhist teaching centres in India, houses about 5,000 monks.

Sources said efforts have been on for quite some time to set up these alternative arrangements, but these have not yet fructified.

"Preparations are on in Namdroling Nyingmapa monastery in Mysore for Dalai Lama's sojourn. The monastery enjoys more facilities than Dharamsala. But it will depend on him (the Dalai Lama)," a top government source said on condition of anonymity.

When contacted, the deputy commissioner of Kangra, C. Pal Rasu, refused to comment on the issue and said he had no knowledge about any plans to prepare an alternative seat for the Dalai Lama.

This is second time the Dalai Lama is in the news due to talk about his "departure" from Dharamsala for a length of time.

His Holiness had decided to leave Dharamsala once before, about two decades ago, when clashes between Tibetan and local youth were reported.

The Dalai Lama also faces threats from Tibetan and Muslim militant groups. His security cover was recently reviewed.
His Holiness is the 14th of his line.

Along with a small retinue, he fled Chinese repression in Tibet in 1959 and set up a government- in-exile at McLeodganj the same year.

I hope if Dalai Lama goes there that the Penor Rinpoche monks will teach him about tolerance:).  I hope he won't try to interfere with the recognition of Penor Rinpoche like he did with Karmapa.... at any rate, he could learn a lot about guru devotion from Penor Rinpoche's Nyingmas.  They have always been very devoted to Penor Rinpoche and his wishes.

It is great to see that the Dalai Lama is going to stay in an monastery of a different lineage. It shows that we should be understanding the other lineages as well, and not just be a master of the Gelug lineage.

First of all, we don't know for sure if the DL is going to Penor Rinpoche's monestary.  Secondly, the Dalai Lama has tried in the past to get all 4 schools under his own jurisdiction; it is really one thing to have respect for all the 4 schools staying in charge of themselves, and keeping their traditions intact, such as the 16th Karmapa supported, or trying to say that tolerance is everyone doing what one man says, which is what the Dalai Lama appears to be doing.

HH Penor helped dorje shugden practitioners out of the goodness of his own heart.

Since Dalai Lama tries to enforce the ban, why would he bring himself to a monastery that is not afraid to help Dorje Shudgen practitioners? HHDL spent so much effort in building up the ban, why would he logically create more questions about his actions?

Yes, I've always seen Penor Rinpoche's heart as that of Padmasambava:).  Buddhas really don't have a problem with other Buddhas ;)
