"His Holiness the Dalai Lama does not want us coming. Yet, look: we sell books. And we pray for him every day. "It is incredulous to two visits a person wrapped in a burgundy gown at the shop spoke of the Center for Tibetan Studies Mont-Pelerin, between the counter and the turnstile on postcards. The 55 monks and students of the center founded in 1977 will see they not their leader? "There is no rule says Gonsar Rinpoche, a great teacher and director of the center. If someone wants to go, he can. But this is not his will and we have also not been invited. "

A statement confirmed in Lausanne. "While the center of Mont-Pèlerin a seat and experience, admits Jon Schmidt, chairman of the organizing committee. They are free, but there is a split theological problem. "

Cult issue
The stumbling block is called Dorje Shugden. A deity revered by some but tainted with opprobrium since the Dalai Lama had asked to stop his cult when he himself had previously rented. Consequences: in India, Tibetans praying to Shugden are prohibited entry into the stores, as evidenced by a report circulated ago less than a year on the news channel France 24. The Dalai Lama does not want to come to his teachings.

On site, voices accuse of religious discrimination. Exported and controversy: Hundreds of people demonstrated in Nantes during the coming of the Tibetan leader last August. On this occasion, when questioned on the subject, he replied that his personal doubts and unrest in a monastery had been pushed to say publicly that this cult was bad and some of its practitioners sectarianism. "The ban dates from 1996, said Anne-Sophie Bentz, the Institute of International Studies in Geneva. But she has grown as the government in exile has published an explanation on this subject last year. "

As in the Catholic community with the statements of the pope on condoms, the Tibetan Buddhists are now split between pro-and antiShugden. "We are following His Holiness, our leader, to 100%. Otherwise it is not Buddhism, "says Namkhai Rinpoche, Tibetan Lama arrived in Switzerland in 2002 and founder of the Buddhist Rigdzin, the source of the invitation Lausanne.

On both sides, yet it evokes a certain sadness. Gonsar Rinpoche spent his childhood in the entourage of the Dalai Lama in Lhasa and Dharamsala, followed by Switzerland in 1975 his master, founder of the center of Mont-Pèlerin: "We are the ones who have invited His Holiness to give its first public education in the West in 1979. About a thousand people came to our field. Now, the Tibetan community is disunited because of trivial issues. "

Political aspect
A far more serious accusation emerges, however, behind the theological debate. The followers of Shugden are believed to be close to the Chinese, for a supreme betrayal Tibetan. "These are not the practitioners who are closer to China than vice versa. A recurring practice: they have already done so for other religious issues. They try to divide the Tibetan diaspora, "says Anne-Sophie Bentz.

Links with the Middle Mont Pèlerin? "Sure. We are funded through contributions and to our Swiss and European donors. Fortunately, here we are still far away from these problems, concludes Gonsar Rinpoche. We have nothing to do with politics. "

When HH Dalai Lama goes to Switzerland, i wonder if the media will pick this up again.. it has been 3 years... and the ban is still not lifted... it would be a good time for the media to resuscitate this!

Wow! This sure is news and thank you Wisdom Being for bringing it up and I think it is quite timely that you mention this as the Dalai Lama has just visited Switzerland and he seemed to have been snubbed by their government. I guess, that means that either the Dalai Lama is no longer a political figure and so, such formalities are not longer extended to him or because of the Dorje Shugden issue, they are keeping at bay or even for the fact of China that they decided to remain neutral. Whatever the reason, it is good that they remain neutral on this matter.

I see the beauty in true Dorje Shugden practitioners. No matter how they are affected by the ban imposed by the Dalai Lama, they will never ever put down the Dalai Lama or disregard him. Yet, like stated in the news report, they pray for him every day and still treat him as the holy Buddha Chenrezig.

This to me are true practitioners. Ban or no ban, they still hold on to their practices well.

dont you think back then the Dalai Lama was so well received as the spiritual/political head of Tibet and the representative of the Tibetans but somehow this year they have already issued a directive that they will not receive the Dalai Lama in official capacity. Could it be that they have found out about the ban and its effects, or the fake democracy system that the US choose to conveniently turn a blind eye to? Not everyone is mesmerized by the US and also that the Swiss are impartial.

The people who wrote this piece obviously checks his or her facts from website and everything online.

If one truly has journalistic ethics they would have done more research before calling Dorje Shugden practitioners as being part of a cult. Swiss people are highly educated, modern and resourceful if DS was a cult why so many engage and support Rabten Choeling.

I hope EDOUARD CURCHOD will stop making assumptions based on information gleaned from the net, pay a visit to Rabten Choeling speak to the people, are these all zonked out people brainwashed and cannot think for themselves? Go to Shar Gaden and Serpom speak to the monks and practitioners there then whatever he write will not be a just a bunch of assumptions!

But whats interesting is at the same time there is news that the Swiss have started their own investigations on CTA and they would most probably be impartial in this matter. And then as a result, the Swiss government will not be granting the Dalai Lama an official state welcome and they have also openly declare that they do not recognize CTA as a valid government. Perhaps they found something that they didint like about the Dalai Lama or the CTA? I mean, anything could have happened that they decided not to give him an official visit, right?

According to this newspaper report, the Dalai Lama does not welcome Shugden practitioners to his teachings in Switzerland. Yet these Shugden practitioners (monks and students of the Mont-Pelerin Center)  have remained loyal to the Dalai Lama. In fact, they "pray for him everyday".

According to Jon  Schmidt, chairman of the organizing committee of HH Dalai Lama's visit to Switzerland, the split, between those who practice Shugden and those who are anti-Shugden, is a "theological problem". However, Gonsar Rinpoche,a great master and teacher of the Mont-Pelerin Center, says  the split is over "trivial issues". Indeed, Gonsar Rinpoche views this split with great sadness. In his childhood, he had been part of HH Dalai Lama's entourage, both in Lhasa and in Dharamsala.

The ramifications of this split are serious, as Shugden practitioners are now being further accused of being Chinese spies and traitors to the Tibetan cause.

Gonsar Rinpoche says it all for Shugden practitioners : " We have nothing to do with politics".

i really agree with Gonsar Rinpoche's statement on this, that Dorje Shugden practitioners have nothing to do with politics as its it is all about personal Dharma practice. Dharma practice has nothing to do with politics or with between a team of people and another. We practice Dorje Shugden for one simple reason, which is to follow the teachings that has been passed down from our Gurus to us. After all, what is more important? Following the Guru's instructions or being politically correct? Following the Guru's instructions can bring us to higher happiness in the future, but being politically correct can only bring us temporary happiness.

I know this was a number of years ago, but the "rules" are pretty much still there - that Dorje Shugden practitioners are not permitted to attend the Dalai Lama's teachings and talks.

Why is it that everyone else in the world of all religions, faiths and backgrounds are permitted to see the Dalai Lama but fellow Buddhists are not? Simply because of one practice they have chosen to do? This is completely nonsensical. We are taught to help all beings, even spirits and beings who cannot even practice Dharma (like animals). But Dorje Shugden practitioners are turned away?

I'm glad there are still articles like this because it shows a huge discrepancy between what the Dalai Lama talks about in theory (compassion, kindness, tolerance, helping all beings) and what he encourages in practice. Surely this draws a huge amount of attention to what is clearly a human rights issue - that Buddhists within the Dalai Lama's own faith are denied religious freedom and access to the most basic right of being able to see their spiritual leader. Again, why is the whole wide world allowed to choose their faith but one group within Buddhism are not? It makes absolutely no sense and it is sad that it has come to this. More needs to be said about this I think in a way that will expose the grave hypocrisy within the Tibetan Buddhism scene today.

I think they have, havent they? According to this forum thread, there was no official Swiss welcome for His Holiness (http://www.dorjeshugden.com/forum/index.php?topic=3139.0)

First His Holiness didnt want us Shugden practitioners at his teachings, and now the Swiss dont welcome him? Oh how the tables have turned.

The fact is the world knows that the Dalai Lama is not going to live forever... His authorities is slowly disappearing and the Tibetans of the next generation know this even more. Tibetans have been using HHDL to fight their so called "freedom" from China... a cause that is slowly dying as the world look to China for economy support. You cannot blame anyone for this if you know about karma and the cause and effect...

Since they elected a new PM... what has been the result? As of to date we hear nothing significant from them... certainly nothing to shout about... instead even more shameful because they actually support the self-immolation acts. They just seem to keep quiet and hide for the wrong things and make a big mess withing their own people.

Shugden Lamas though shun by their own people are probably making more head ways in helping the Tibetans in Tibet than the CTA. They obviously is smarter. So long as the Shugden ban is not lifted, Tibetans are killing themselves from within, causing disunity from within... it does not take a genius or clairvoyant to see the future... and I am sure the next generation who have adapted in the west or born outside of Tibet will slowly adapt happier being out of Tibet. Just take a look at this vide... that is right... think 50years from now.. the next generation. Do they really expect the fight for a Free Tibet to still be around?  Better to fight for "freedom" within.

The Tibetans already have a nice piece of land loaned to them by the Indian government and instead of developing that piece of land to be a second Tibet, they waste their time, resources and energy to getting independence from China which will never happen. The Tibetans at Dharamsala should just develop Dharamsala and take care of it as if it was their own country. But now, as I have heard, many Tibetans want to leave Dharamsala because of the horrible living conditions there. They want to go to other countries, anywhere but Dharamsala after escaping from Tibet and discovering the harsh reality that is Dharamsala's poor working conditions.
