Why is compassion not extended to Dorje Shugden monks???
« on: November 22, 2014, 04:43:29 AM »
this is a snapshot of FPMT's Mandala Magazine. This piece of news shows how discrimination is exerted even in such an established organization as FPMT with the excuse that these monks do not follow the wishes of the Dalai Lama. So is it more necessary to follow the wishes of HHDL or be devoted to one's own Guru?

Such persecution is rampant within the Tibetan community and will only bring down the entire teachings. This has made me realize how much unfairness in treatment within the community of monks. Are teachers and organizations today here to make Dharma grow or "punish" others for not falling in line with their ideals?

No one is supposed to go against the king demon Dalai Lama.  So, if you are Kagyu, he will pick you the Chinese Karmapa to screw up your school--- and if you don't agree then his monks will treat you badly.  If you do Shugden, then he will hate you even more because Shugden lamas are his own school-- they are so much more important and authentic gurus than he--- so he had to work twice as hard to get rid of their influence--- don't let their followers say anything--- tell them they are going to the lower hells for not believing and following his every word... he's just this jerk, okay.  He's a man that someone decided to make a god-king--- but he acts like a devil and worships the spirit Nechung.... he is nuts.

Yes Jagger, the discrimination against Shugden practitioners are real and exist clearly in this world.  Now it is stated in black and white in the article in the picture. Only thing I am very amazed is how the CTA is fiercely denying to the media there was a ban on the practice of Dorje Shugden.
From the article, it was stated that the sixty monks "who went against His Holiness' wishes" were denied food and shelter. Whatever happened to the teaching that we treat every being as equal? If they were so rotten to not follow the wishes of His Holiness, should we not have compassion for them instead of starving them?

It's a crying shame that 60 monks, belonging to a Mongolian monastery, were denied food because they were Shugden practitioners. However, we are told that if they "changed their ways", they would be given food!
So there IS discrimination against Shugden practitioners for going against the wishes of HH Dalai Lama by practicing Shugden. So there IS a ban on Shugden practice , for all the denial.

For crying out loud, this is against the Bodhisattva Vows, which specifically emphasizes universal and equal compassion for all beings.

The Dorje Shugden monks have no ill wishes toward His Holiness the Dalai Lama but requests humbly that Dalai Lama will allow them to practice Dorje Shugden without persecution as this lineage stems back 350 years to the time of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen, a great Mahasiddha, during the time of the 5th Dalai Lama. . The monks humbly request Dalai Lama to remove the ban against Dorje Shugden practitioners.
There is discrimination against these monks. We thank them for their commitment, bravery and solid examples of Guru devotion in the face of so much adversity .

Funny how organisations/sangha members/monasteries want to look politically correct and aligned with His Holiness that they ignore the suffering of the very people they are trying to help and spread Dharma to? What makes a Shugden practitioner not legitimate to receive teachings or in this case, shelter? There is no difference in motivation to learn or spread the Dharma, in devotion and love for the lama, in holding one's vows. There is no difference between a Shugden Practitioner and a Non Practitioner. Life should not be made so hard for Shugdenpas because they are everything a non shugdenpa is. Whether its devotion to their own lama or the dalai lama, or to the Gaden tradition, as Buddhist practitioners, we all hold the same view. So what crime has Shugden practitioners done to deserve what they are being handed till this present day?

Very sad indeed to know for the fact that the one who still believed and practice Dorje Shugden are being alienised as though that they have a disease or strange sickness. Talking about guru devotion here, who is the one who said that his gurus in wrong and ban the practice which his guru has been dedicated in their entire life.

Are we or are we not suppose to treat all sentient beings equally. If yes, why is this happening?

i fully agree with what Jagger said how can there is so much discrimination among the monk community i always think is only apply to normal lay person community by right monk should live in harmony even with different sac and different lineage because no matters what lineage you come from the original teaching still come from Buddha.
Sad to hear all this violent and discrimination .

There comes a point when it is not about following the Dalai Lama's orders or following one's guru but following the Buddha Shakyamuni's teachings. Back to ground zero on the Four Noble Truths and Eight Fold Path and all that is virtuous and good and absolute truth. It is about right action, right speech, right thoughts, right intention.

Looks like anti Dorje Shugden people is willing to use food and shelter as bargaining chips for people to give up their belief. Do we need to stoop so low to convert people? In this context can we even call ourselves Buddhist?

As Buddha taught us to be compassion and kind to all sentient beings why is it not extended to those who practice Dorje Shugden?
There is indeed discrimination among the monks who practice and who doesn't practice. Very sad that this is still going on and the ban must be lifted soon. Let's have religious freedom.

"According to Buddhism, compassion is an aspiration, a state of mind, wanting others to be free from suffering. It's not passive -- it's not empathy alone -- but rather an empathetic altruism that actively strives to free others from suffering. Genuine compassion must have both wisdom and lovingkindness. That is to say, one must understand the nature of the suffering from which we wish to free others (this is wisdom), and one must experience deep intimacy and empathy with other sentient beings (this is lovingkindness)."
Upon reading the  ill treatment of these Dorje Shugden monks received as the result for not acceding to the wishes of HHDL, questions and  doubts arise about his teachings and practice !! Where are the qualities and essence  of all the above mentioned  for one who has been awarded the   Noble Peace Prize title?  By giving such treatment to these monks, will they be alleviate from sufferings and pains or is this another form of practice rendered to the monks to clear their obstacles ?  These monks have shown great  perseverance and faith in their Guru Devotion and the DS practices!!  :'(

It does not make sense that a high lama like Lama Zopa preferred to look politically correct and not help the 60 monks because they practise Dorje Shugden! Had Lama Zopa forgotten that it was Dorje Shugden who had endorsed and recognized him as a tulku?  Why would Lama Zopa stress the importance of guru devotion when he himself doesn't practise guru devotion and had broken samaya with his root guru Lama Yeshe? Due to Lama Zopa's stance on Dorje Shugden, FPMT had gone into a state of disarray!

I’ve always wondered if the poor strays in the premises where the Dalai Lama was giving talks were better treated than those poor people who wanted to attend the talks. I’m just making a comparison and not saying that the poor strays should be shooed away.
And to read what Lama Zopa did was appalling. What good would come from the teaching when people were turned away and not provided food and shelter?

Why is that unfairness can happen among monks community, I support the community should be full of love and compassion because we all are practicing Buddha teaching not any others worldly work why so cruel this is so sad to know about it.
