DHARAMSHALA, FEB. 24: A Tibetan woman who was deported from Switzerland is reportedly detained in a Kathmandu prison by Nepali police on her arrival from the European country on Feb. 1. Yangdon Chorasherpa (last name appears to be acquired for document) continues to be prison in Kathmandu where her conditions after suffering from a febrile infection seems to be getting critical, according to reports.

Last month, Swiss apex body on immigration, the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) deported Yangdon Chorasherpa, a Tibetan, on the grounds for seeking asylum on Nepali documentation where she mentioned she was a Nepalese national.

Although the technicality may amount to fraud, such attempts by Tibetan refugees to just get entry into Europe are a desperate act, says Michael Flueckiger of Swiss Refugee Relief. He was quoted by Swiss daily Tages Anzeiger as saying, “It is almost impossible for Tibetans to come to Europe with real papers. Although they are officially Chinese (Swiss govt. recognizes Tibet as a part of China), they usually have no Chinese papers. And if they had such, they would not get a visa.”

Nepal which many say has strong, even a subordinate role with China is a country wrought on political instability and especially inhabitable for Tibetan refugees due to China’s over extended reaches in the tiny Himalayan country. "It would be considered potentially dangerous for the country's stability," Iona Liddell, executive director of the Tibet Justice Center in Oakland, California, told TA.

The Tibetan Youth Association in Europe (TYAE) on their official Facebook page wrote, “This action taken by the (Swiss) authorities is shocking especially since Chinese influence in Nepal is immense and well known. Yangdon is still in detention; her condition continues to be critical.

Yangdon was a TYAE member and an appreciated Tibetan teacher in Switzerland for Tibetan children. Since the day of her arrest in Zurich TYAE has been working together with a team of friends, lawyers and other organizations to help Yangdon. We demand her immediate return to Switzerland!”

The 27 year old Tibetan woman first came to Switzerland almost three years ago in 2014 and was a volunteer teacher who taught Tibetan to children in Zurich.

She was reported to be arrested on 30 January last month in the asylum shelter in Zurich-Altstetten, two days later on Feb. 1 she was deported to Nepal where she was detained by Nepalese authorities.

Looks like everyone including Switzerland is taking on China's side more and more.
And how come whatever is issued by the CTA is useless, especially since they are always so chummy chummy with the Westen powers. Looks like CTA is losing their power, becoming useless and perhaps even redundant?

What will become of the Tibetans when the can no longer use HH the Dalai Lama as their card to leverage themselves with the Western powers. Actually they should instead use it to start creating connections with China and really stop irritating them already, so that whatever they wish to achieve for their people in Tibet can actually happen, which I hope is for the sake of preserving their culture.

Like one of the article heading on this website, "It’s Bad to Be Seen With Tibetan Leaders". I posted on "Switzerland Leads the Free World in Friendship with China" about Switzerland's economic relations with China.

Investments by Chinese companies in Switzerland quadrupled last year to reach $4.8 billion (CHF4.8 billion), according to research from consultants Baker McKenzie. The report excludes the proposed $43 billion takeover of Syngenta by ChemChina, which still awaits final regulatory approval. Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) in the whole of Europe totalled $46 billion in 2016 (up 90% on 2015) and $48 billion (+189%) in North America, says Baker McKenzie, those are not small numbers.

China’s HNA Aviation Group had acquired Swiss air transport support companies Gategroup, ST Technicsand had previously bought Swissport. There is also the much spoken about tookover of aluminium bottle maker Sigg by Haers Vacuum Containers.

With all that economic benefits, deporting a Tibetan is just a small 'token'. It is unfortunate, but Switzerland already asked the Tibetan refugees to change their nationality into Chinese, so the future for Tibetans in Switzerland is bleak.

It's economics and politics, politics and economics. As China becomes an economic superpower, more countries will want to be on China's side. CTA has to recognize that aspect and tone down their rhetoric. As a reference, this article

discusses the situation of Tibetans in Switzerland who now have to declare that they are from China and not Tibet as Tibet is recognized by Switzerland as a part of China. Where goes the Tibetans who do not or cannot do so?

It is unfortunate, but Switzerland already asked the Tibetan refugees to change their nationality into Chinese, so the future for Tibetans in Switzerland is bleak.

I hope the Tibetans make their mind up fast and end their resistance to accepting the facts! They have to end their fight against China as there is no other way out!

Where will they find support and money? It seems that all the generous help they have received will dry up soon!

This is really shocking and it shows how influential China's policies are in Europe and wins over the neutrality of Switzerland. Switzerland has long been non-partisan, neutral and had tremendous pride in its reputation that it is a safe haven for banking.

Everybody knows if you want to keep away huge sums safely, you keep it in Swiss banks. I grew up on movies of wealthy people secretly stashing away millions in Swiss banks to evade taxes in their home countries. I guess that would mean income and that their neutrality ends there. No Tibetan cause is going to jeopardise their bread and butter.

Switzerland has one of the largest Tibetan population in Europe and it was perhaps one of the Tibetan hotspots but this is going change very fast and this is perhaps the beginning of the end for Tibetan sympathy on a national level.

Yup it sure proves that CTA is becoming more and more powerless. Imagine this is happening now that the Dalai Lama is alive. What if the Dalai Lama is gone? What happens then? What will happened to CTA? Will they even be around, can they sustain that long?

They sure are not very smart. How long can they keep going like this? They should quickly try to find ways to work with China, that is the only way to go. I do not see anything better for them as China become more and more powerful.

Trump is being hated by everyone, he is going to make America fall in no time, everything he does is such a huge blunder and angers people. The Tibetan leadership should STOP hoping US will come to their aid and they should stop hoping for wars to be created for them. They should stop leeching and being troublemakers for everyone including India.

This is sad news t o know that this Tibetan woman who taught Tibetan to the Tibetan children in Switzerland is deported and now detained in Kathmandu.

China is getting more powerful and influential and many countries are on China’s side.  CTA should wake up and end the fight against China as it is not going to help the Tibetans in any way. The Tibetans have suffered so much fighting for their rights without getting anywhere.  The CTA should seriously think of what is going to happen to them once foreign aid stop coming in.

This is true what pgdharma said. There is already so much suffering and all those 50 over years of fighting has gotten no one no where. Tibetans that can afford and have escaped Tibet have migrated and integrated into other countries. Even if Tibet becomes independent now, it is still very backward and a harsh place to live in compared to the modern cities these Tibetans have decided to migrate to. Their kids the new generation will not even know Tibet and hence will not even miss it and would probably hate it if they had to leave all their modern comforts to go back to Tibet, although China is pumping in a lot of money to modernise it. Basically it is lost cause, but Tibetans are very stubborn and loyal and will to fight even if it is a lost cause... we can all see that now. But unfortunately it is a very foolish mentality because there is no way Tibet will gain any independence and every leader has recognised that Tibet is part of China and has accepted the one Tibet policy. So this is why the CTA should really encourage their people to stop blabbing on and on condemning Tibet because how are they ever going to get a civilised meeting if they keep annoying China?
 
Another thing is CTA needs to stop all the internal fighting and division disharmony created within the exile community amongst Shugden and non-Shugden. Amongst the rangzen group and umaylam group. Already within there is so much "fighting", how to expect a society that is torn within to manage Tibet if they can even manage themselves? Let's be logical here.
