PM Modi snubs Tibetan leadership again?
« on: May 31, 2019, 06:34:57 PM »
The Tibetan leader of Central Tibetan Administration, Lobsang Sangay was not invited to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan this time despite sending a congratulatory message. This clearly shows that the Indian leadership is again snubbing the Tibetan leadership, continuing the trend from last year when they issued a circular discouraging government officials from attending events commemorating 60 years of the Dalai Lama’s exile in India.

India obviously doesn't want to risk irking China and shattering the current momentum in their relations, especially when India is set to host President Xi Jinping for another informal summit later this year.  Support for the Tibetan cause is waning worldwide, and things are not getting better with the office of the Dalai Lama curtailing his visits abroad and inside India.

PM Modi snubs Tibetan leadership for swearing-in ceremony

By Tenzin Dharpo

DHARAMSHALA, May 30: The Indian Prime Minister who is fresh off of a massive win in the Indian Lok Sabha elections has done a U-turn by not inviting exile Tibetan government’s President to the swearing in ceremony due to be held later today, in a bid to not anger Beijing.

The President of the exile Tibetan government, known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration, Dr. Lobsang Sangay’s absence today at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi marks a stark contrast to 2014 when the elected Tibetan leader was seated in the former rows at the ceremony when PM Modi was sworn into office the first time around.

The invitation to Dr. Sangay in May 2014 drew strong objection from the Chinese government who lodged an official protest censuring New Delhi’s disregard for the so-called ‘One-China policy’. Many said at the time that the invite was posturing at most, of Modi’s intent to India’s neighbor and biggest rivals both in Asia and global arenas.

The New Delhi-Beijing relations post the Doklam stand off and Wuhan summit has meant that India has given a cold shoulder to the exile Tibetan set up, thereby taking a step back in using the much-touted ‘Tibet card’. The shift in policy has markedly been seen on the ground with New Delhi issuing an advisory to senior leaders to avoid His Holiness the Dalai Lama or pushing the CTA to shift the “thank you India” ceremony from New Delhi to Dharamshala last year.

The head of the Tibetan polity who extended pleasantries to PM Modi on his win, however may have anticipated the snub. Days after Modi’s historic election win, Sangay flew to the United States and is scheduled to return on June 5 to India next week.

Starting last year India has been very cautious and never would let CTA in their way to have a great relationship with China. Indian government being quiet and stop their people attending CTA event. This is a clear indication telling CTA that India is not your area anymore and quickly work out a relationship with China. China is the only hope and for them to go back. CTA has to think for their future and no longer keep looking for money using Tibetan cause.

There are some who said that by denying the invitation to Tibetan leader, PM Modi has gone out of the way to appease China and keep Beijing in good humour, despite China is claiming that Indian province Arunachal Pradesh belongs to it and is occupying large Indian territory annexed by China during the 1962 Indo China war.

But, does India really have to protect the interests of Tibet and at the expense of good relations with China?

India and China last year had a series of engagements,  including several bilateral meetings between the leaders of the two nations on the sideline of the multilateral conclaves.  China on May 1 dropped its policy of shielding terrorists based in Pakistan from United Nations sanctions and stood aside to let the Security Council impose sanctions on the JeM chief Masood Azhar. So obviously India has to reciprocate this friendly gesture.

The Indian government has supported the Tibetans for the last 60 years. India has not gained any benefit from the Tibetans but the Tibetans keep asking for more. Not only that, the Tibetans always create troubles to India.

India has been wanting to establish a good relationship with China. Unfortunately, Tibet is now in the way. Working together with China will bring a lot of economic benefits to India. Only a fool will refuse to work with China.

It is a fact that the Tibetan community in India does not bring benefits to India. Modi not inviting Lobsang Sangay to the swearing-in ceremony is a clear indication the Tibetan community is losing support from India. It is a bad news to them, but it seems like Lobsang Sangay is not going to do anything to improve the situation.

India has been compassionate enough to host or rather help Tibetan to provide shelter, preserve Tibetan culture, provide food and opportunity of citizenship. India has done the most for Tibetan compare to any other people in the world. But for the past 60 years what actually Tibetan leadership had done or even support for India during their high and low period?

I think it's time for Tibetan leadership to really show their appreciation to India and don't take any more advantage. The situation for Tibetan is really negative. India needs China and they are at good terms but Tibetan is in between them. There is no way that India will tolerate or compromise for Tibet as what China can offer, that is nothing Tibetan leadership could provide.

Tibetan leadership has to act fast before it's too late.

The best move for India is to snub the leeches. They are a group of vampires that suck:
  • Your wealth
  • Your health
  • Your energy
  • Your kindness
  • Your compassion
  • Your care
  • Your support
and the list goes on...

In return, they hoist the Tibet flag at Lake Pangong to stir the Indian and Chinese dispute over Doklam border. They create all sorts of anti-Chinese sentiments in India to influence the Sino-Indian relationship. They suck money from the Indian government that could be used to improve the quality of lives for the poor Indians...

It is slow to take 60 years for the Indians to realise how useless the Tibetans are but never too late!

In a nutshell, they will only take and not give back. CTA took everything that belongs to the people including the millions of donation that they got from the western countries. The life in the Tibetan settlements are the same as 60 years ago while almost all of the Tibetan leadership has a second passport from another country.

If the Tibetan leadership is so loyal to the Tibetan cause, why did they take another passport from another country? Why do they need a second passport when they have the almighty Tibetan travel papers? Are they trying to use their position in Tibetan leadrship to get as much benefits for themseles and then run away when they have enough.

They never cared about the Tibetans in exile. All they care about is their own pockets and where they will retire and enjoy the rest of their life. An example will be Sharling Dhardon, she left her position in the CTA and went to the west to pursue her studies. It is obvious that she does not have a plan to come back to stay in the Tibetan settlements.

It is clear that PM Modi has had enough of the cheap and childish games the CTA and Lobsang Sangay play. Sangay has been a dismal leader of the Tibetans in exile, creating an environment so toxic today that most Tibetans would rather be Indian citizens or migrate to Western countries.

Everything that comes out from his and the CTA's mouth is so biased, illogical and outright childish that no one respects or pays any attention to them except for those with an agenda against China.

Grow up and please pull that thumb of yours out from your mouth.
It is disgusting and demeaning to the office of the Dalai Lama and to your hosts the great Indian nation.

The PM Modi has to protect the interests of his country and the Tibetan Leadership does not provide any benefits for India but instead takes so much from them and creates problems with the big neighbor China for example.

So of course India has to choose what is best for their country. The Tibetan Leadership can think about how they can benefit India instead of always creating problems.

So, the question is,,, what will the Tibetan Leadership do to gain India's trust?

A great leader will always look after their people and always protect their people's interest. Now India secured a good relationship with China for the benefits of the long term. In this case, we can see India already taking steps to ignore Tibetan. This will eventually lead to Tibetan to leave India. But at this moment how Tibetan can leave? With what? Have they created a good relationship with China? if not then how?

It is smart of India to protect their own interests rather than being at odds with China, which will be especially damaging to their potential ludicrous trade agreements. Why side with losers such as the Tibetan Government in exile, CTA who has never done anything but beg for money and never even sharing it to improve their people's lives? CTA had only selfishly fattened their own pockets in luxurious living and fat retirement funds. Finally, India has wised up to CTA's antics and has snubbed numerous meaningless activities held by the CTA, as well as not inviting to momentous events, such as the Prime Minister's swearing-in ceremony. Too bad! After all the years of living the lazy way, CTA's days of begging are numbered as the world are censuring them against the generosity of China.

Who the hell does Lobsang Sangay think he is? Why should the Prime Minister of India, 1.4 billion bother about insignificant Sangay who cannot even bring harmony and unity to his own people? And what country is he representing and governing? How dare he even complain about not being invited, he should be lucky he and his so-called cabinets are still allowed to operate on Indian soil which is a loan to them for free, for now.

Well, I think it's time Sangay and gang get a huge wake-up slap and realise that they bring no benefit to anyone and the world's economy. So, better just shut up before they get squish like a bug for misbehaving in someone's house. If they were smart, unfortunately, they are not, they would do everything in their power to harness a good, prosperous, harmonious relationship with China and India and of course the should start at home but showing harmony within their own Tibetans exile community. Instead of segregation, they should unite everyone for a much bigger picture since they are such a small fly. Sadly, their brain cells cannot think beyond themselves and how to fill up their own pockets. We will just have to wait and watch what India and China will do to them.

Tibetans in India are given the cold shoulder by the Indian government. The relationship between Indians and Tibetans are not the same anymore. Last time, India was using the Tibetans to irk China and now the situation has changed. India does not need Tibetans anymore and there is no reason to treat them nice.

Tibetans in India have not been useful or beneficial for India for the past 60 years. They have created a lot of problems for Indians including cheating the system and stealing aids that they are not entitled for. For 60 years, they just take and take and never give back. Indians are very dissatisfied with them and wanted them to leave.

Now that being close to China is what India wants, Tibetan will not be entertained by the Indian officials. Sooner or later, Tibetans will be asked to leave India if they do not stop creating problems. Remember, they are the thorn in the flesh of China and China will back off so easily until they remove the thorn.

Can anyone host a guest for 60 years? This guest take things for granted and always creates problems, which host will be patient enough to deal with it? This is what is happening to India. India has been very kind to host the Tibetans for the past 60 years but Tibetans only take and never give anything back.

When the Tibetans first arrived in India in 1959, India was very kind to give them lands to rebuild their home. They are even allowed to have their own government. When India offer citizenship to the Tibetans, CTA is making thing so hard for the Tibetans to convert to Indian nationality.

Generally, Tibetans just use India as a stepping stone for them to go to western countries. They don't think India is good enough for them. But things will change soon as Asia is growing stronger. The Tibetans who have migrated to the west will regret one day for making the wrong choice.

You are so right! CTA and many of the Tibetans in exile are just using India as a stepping stone. They denigrate the Indians as India is the very last choice on their list of places they wish to emigrate to. Even going back to Tibet under China is a better option than to be Indian citizens. Wonder why? Is it that they are so prone to practicing discrimination that they act out their negativities without much thought? We hear of Tibetans who discriminate amongst themselves as to where in Tibet they came from, what school of religious practice, and then against Dorje Shugden practitioners, etc. It is just amazing and not something the outside world expects from a country where the majority of them are staunch Buddhist practitioners. So now we know that anyone can claim themselves Buddhists but not all can claim to be real practitioners.
