Sikyong says 10th Panchen L. authoritative but campaigns against Dorje Shugden

The embattled Sikyong recently quoted the 10th Panchen Lama's text, a petition (see below), as a means to provide some horrific statistics regarding the destruction of the monasteries in Tibet following the Cultural Revolution.

"Dr Sangay quoted the 10th Panchen Lama’s 70,000-Character Petition which recorded destruction of 98 percent of monasteries in the Tibet Autonomous Region and the Tibetan areas incorporated into the Chinese provinces and the mass starvation and imprisonment in Tibet. He said the Petition clearly proved two important facts: first, that the occupation of Tibet was not a peaceful liberation, it was extremely destructive; Secondly, it debunked the Chinese people’s attribution of the destruction of Tibetan monasteries and nunneries as the aftermath of cultural revolution.

The report submitted in 1962 clearly showed that the destruction of the Tibetan religion was more or less completed before the Cultural Revolution which began 1965 onwards. In 1962, the 10th Panchen Lama made the first major criticism of Chinese policy in Tibet in the form of the ’70,000-Character Petition’ submitted to Mao Zedong. The Chinese government kept the petition as a State secret. Two years later, the Panchen Lama was declared ‘an enemy of the people’ and was imprisoned for nine years and five years under house arrest."

Now if the 10th Panchen Lama were such an authoritative and reliable figure worthy of such a quote (and I agree that HH is and in fact is a national hero and spiritual peer of the Dalai Lama), why is the Sikyong still campaigning against the practice of the 10th Panchen Lama's Dharma protector Dorje Shugden?


The 10th Panchen Rinpoche devoted a whole 26 pages to prayer, ritual and rites to his Enlightened Protector Dorje Shugden. The Panchen Lama revered and practised Dorje Shugden throughout his life and composed further rites to this protector.

Sikyong and the CTA, please decide about how much you trust the 10th Panchen Lama. The Tibetans did and still do very much. Where do you stand on this?

The CTA and Lobsang Sangay are very double standard and selective in things. They will pick statements or evidences that are in their favour. Truth does not matter to them, what they can use to benefit them is more important. When they cannot clarify their statements or cover their lies, they just brush people off saying we should listen to the Dalai Lama. But if we should listen to the Dalai Lama, why is the CTA and Lobsang Sangay going against the Dalai Lama in terms of the future of Tibet?

The Dalai Lama wants the middle way approach to solve the Tibet issue but the CTA and Lobsang Sangay are still talking about independence for Tibet. Why are the CTA and Lobsang Sangay being selective again? How can people still trust them?

CTA and other organisation are very much double standard when it comes to Dorje Shugden practice. On one side, they condemned Dorje Shugden practice as demon practice but they still have Dorje Shugden practitioner statues on their altars and Dharma books are written by Dorje Shugden practitioners. It makes no sense when you accept one part of the lama's teaching while rejecting the other part.

In Tibetan Buddhism, we are taught that when we reject our lama's teachings, his blessings will automatically stop even if we continue to practice other teachings from the same lama. Hence, those who rejected their lama's teachings on Dorje Shugden while still continue their other practices, there will be no blessings. That is why FPMT has already thrown their spiritual practice away once they rejected Lama Yeshe's teaching on Dorje Shugden.

Me totally agree with you Ringo Starr. The Sikyong and the CTA is very contradictory and very hypocritical. On one hand you keep saying you want to be friendly with China and have a dialogue to ask for complete autonomy, but on the other hand you bark and bite and keep talking bad about CHina etc. etc. Which is it? Make up your mind because unfortunately for them, China has and will not relent.

It is time for Sikyong to stop wasting time and making things worse than what it is already with China... time is short and the Dalai Lama is not getting any younger folks!

This is very typical of the CTA. When they have implemented a rule, they always have the double standard. They will apply the rule to their advantage. For example, the Dorje Shugden ban. The CTA said Dorje Shugden and Dorje Shugden followers are not pure, they will pollute the purity of Tibetan Buddhism so they are not allowed to be with the non Dorje Shugden followers. But why are the monks of the three main monasteries, Drepung, Sera and Gaden still occupying the monasteries that were built or sponsored by Dorje Shugden lamas? Why are they still studying the texts written by one of the the reincarnations of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Sonam Dragpa?

When the Dorje Shugden ban was imposed, Trijang Rinpoche was allowed to do Dorje Shugden practice but not other people, how come? So can we really trust the CTA? I don't think so, they can change their mind just to protect their own interest. They don't care about the Tibetans, it is all about themselves.

Sangay better makes up his mind and for once be a real leader to speak with logical sense. As a leader, he cannot keep flipping his mind and confused his people. If he supports the 10th Panchen Lama mean he supports all the things he does and all the way. So is that mean Sangay also supports Dorje Shugden practice which been practice by the 10th Panchen Lama? if not he has to say it clearly and justify why. He has to make clear of all his statements like a REAL LEADER!!!

Dalai Lama already said he wants to live under China in Tibetan and not to pursue full independent. Sangay is not going align with Dalai Lama which he still voices up for fully independent and keeps bringing up matters to irritate the Chinese. This will just keep the Chinese unhappy and totally close the door for any discussion for the Dalai Lama and Tibetans to return to Tibet. It's either Sangay hates Dalai Lama and purposely makes such a scenario to sabotage Dalai Lama from returning to Tibet or he's the actual spy working under the Chinese to purposely create such a scene for China use as the reason not to have room for dialogue to discuss. 

Either way we can see Sangay is not a firm leader and definitely not standing on Dalai Lama side. Sangay will not fulfill Dalai Lama wishes and will only keep bringing Tibetan in exile drown to a point where there is no hope for Tibetan in India. The only way to move forward is to replace Sangay. We don't see much how Sangay strategize to be in the good book of China in hoping China will be softened and allow some room of discussion.
This will never happen as long as Sangay is in the position.
