Dorje Shugden Was Enthroned by the Chinese Emperor
« on: October 17, 2010, 05:14:39 PM »
Extract from Music Delighting An Ocean of Protectors by Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche

Enthroned as guardian of the Yellow Hat Teachings,
By the Chinese emperor, the Dalai Lama, and his regent,

As for this, during the first period of the time of the eleventh Dalai Lama Kedrup Gyatso and the regent Ratreng Hotogtu Ngawang Yeshe Tsultrim Gyaltsen, the Great Dharma King Nechung and the Lhasa Trokang Gyalchen Shugden were both swift to perform activities and both were very renowned to give accurate prophesies. Resident in Tibet was a high Chinese minister who was powerful and oppressive named Amben Che Trungtang. He had some very important questions to ask for prophecy that he had written in Chinese. He came to the Lhasa Trode Kangsar Protector Palace and, in front of the image of the Dharmapala, burned the questions he had written in Chinese, and demanded that the Dharmapala give clear prophesies in answer to his questions during an invocation the following day. When Dharmapala was invoked the next day, he gave explicit powerful answers to the questions in the correct order. Trungtang, with delighted conviction, informed the emperor Dhakong who awarded a proclamation of praise to Gyalchen of the Trokang Temple with a pandit's hat, and also gave a pandit's hat to Nechung at the same time. The regent Ratreng, the Kashag, the Shabpa, the head secretary and so forth, ordained and lay officials from the high to low, and the Chinese
Amban and his entourage went to Nechung in the morning and after a ceremonial offering of the new pandit's hat, then went to Lhasa Trode Kangsar. There, in the center of a large stone courtyard, inside a pitched tent, in an elaborate auspicious ceremony, over the door of the protector palace was offered the pandit's award. The Trokang oracle, the temple monks, and general chief monks, with the regent Ratreng Rinpoche, the Chinese Amban, the Kashag, and Shabpa as chief attendees, Tibetan and Chinese people of all ranks were offered a feast and had a huge festival. With the Chinese emperor Dhakong and the Lord of Buddhas, the Dalai Lama, patron and lama together, they all praised and enthroned Gyalchen Dorje Shugden as principal protector of the Yellow Hat Teachings as praised in this part of the verse.

I have seen with my own eyes a record of this and the previously related story in which the minister Bumtangpa was saved from execution, in the notations of the office of the Kashag of the Tibetan government, in the guest book diary for the respective dates where the essence of what occurred in each instance was described.

Thank you Big Uncle for sharing this.

Not only the emperor, I understood from the text above that His Holiness the 11th Dalai Lama, together with the Chinese emperor, also enthroned Dorje Shugden as principal protector of the Yellow Hat Teachings.

That reminded me of the praise written by the 14th Dalai Lama - Melody of the Unceasing Vajra (http://dorjeshugden.com/wp/?page_id=346), which also confirms that Dorje Shugden is the protector of Je Tsongkhapa's teachings:

Glory of the wisdom, compassion and power of infinite Buddhas
Miraculously powerful protector of Manjusri Tsongkhapa’s Teachings
Arisen as a lord of all wrathful worldly hosts
Come from the abodes of Tushita, Kechara, and so forth!

The link between China and Tibet is ancestral, this shows!

Both the Emperor of the Chinese Empire and the Spiritual Leader of Tibet (the 11th Dalai Lama) join in a ceremony that recognizes Dorje Shugden as the protector of the Mahayana Gelug school, the leading school of Buddhism in China, and with the region of Tibet as its sanctuary.

We are today in the continuity with this bound.

And China is a promoter of the different cultures that make China a nation, including that of Tibet.
Not only that, but China is also promoting the ancestral spiritual tradition of Buddhism through the vehicle of the Mahayana Gelug school.

Do you see the link there?
I see the link very clearly.
This is thanks to the work of Dorje Shugden, an enlightened Buddha in action, in our modern times!
The future of Tibet is with China, for Dorje Shugden receives more recognition from China than he does from the CTA. And the Tibetans receive more care too!

With this, we can tell that the Chinese had already been practising Dorje Shugden for a very long time. And with the ban going on, it has encouraged the Chinese to once again reconnect with Dorje Shugden and practice Buddhism again. It is just really nice to know that the Chinese are now strongly promoting Dorje Shugden in order to not support the movement of the Tibetans getting back their land.

Dorje Shugden the world peace Protector fosters goodwill and bond between Tibet and China even in the ancient time.  Dorje Shugden is continuing to do so even today.  As He is appropriately called the world peace Protector, He will be the protector who unites all Tibetan and greatly assists in spreading Buddhism further into China.  As this is the case, table talk between Tibet and China would be much easier towards the goal of Tibet.  Some top Chinese officials personally like the Dalai Lama and are in awe when they met but unfortunately they cannot outwardly show it or devout to Buddhism because of China's policy and their communist ideals.  However, with time I am confident there will be a wind of change in China's policy and ideals as everything is non-permanent.   :)

I think the "wind of change" will start to blow when His Holiness would have passed away.
There will be someone replacing him somehow, or more likely there will be more than one.

Yet:
1. none of them has the personal link that His Holiness has with many Tibetans in China,
2. none of them has the history and political baggage built-up since the 50's,
3. most of the Tibetans in China were born after His Holiness left Tibet.

Thus: it will be then easier for China to entertain relationships with lamas outside of Tibet for as long as they have no political baggage and no connection with the CTA.

As sad as it is to say, the relationship between the Tibetan Spiritual community inside and outside of China will improve after His Holiness' passing. This said with all due respect and with my sincere prayers for His Holiness long life!

It is totally unquestionable as to why Dorje Shugden was highly regarded as a Protector in Tibet and Mahayana Gelug school of China. Dorje Shugden was also very highly regarded in ancient times as even the Emperor actually enthroned Dorje Shugden as the protector of China. Thanks to the High Lamas of that time, Dorje Shugden's practice was able to spread far and wide. Many were able to be connected with Dorje Shugden and soon after when the ban is lifted, there will be more people who are going to be practising this sacred practice. As much as any of us are concerned, China has a huge influence on the growth of Dorje Shugden, for now and also in the future.

Ps. He is good enough for the Emperor of China but not good enough for CTA??? I wonder why!?!?

Everything comes back to how EXCEPTIONALLY skillful the Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden have worked in total harmony so as to turn obstacles into an opportunities.

We often talk about how teachers should lead by example!

Well here is one major teaching about how to turn a huge collection of obstacles into opportunities:

you loose your title, you loose your financial security, you loose your houses, you loose your family, you loose your country (none-the-less), you gain a very mighty enemy (China), you are obliged to compromise and beg for the sake of those you are in charge of, you must leave in a foreign country... WOW! Can anyone claim to have THESE kinds of obstacles?

I mean, what are YOUR obstacles? Wanna compare?

And yet, here we see the might of these obstacles turned around in an exemplary move into an opportunity to benefit MILLIONS, to restore TIBET and to make definite peace with China...

Are you doubting it? See for yourself where we are at now, more than 50 years after the Dalai lama left Tibet:
1. MILLIONS have benefitted and received countless teachings from the diaspora of Buddhist teachers from Tibet,
2. TIBET has been restored by China itself, partially in a move to attract tourists, partially in a move to demonstrate to the world its peaceful intentions in Tibet,
3. then, TIBET has made definite peace with China, for it IS now in China.
The more I think about it, the more it is clear to me: The Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden is having a ball - tango to be exact!

This is very good thing to realize indeed, the bigger the obstacles, the more powerful an opportunity it has the potential to become.
Large obstacles are thus extraordinary opportunities.
What a positive way to look at life!

During the reign of the 11th Dalai Lama, Dorje Shugden enhanced the relationship between China and Tibet, by giving answers to the Chinese Amban to questions posed by the Chinese Emperor.

From the above, the Emperor was so pleased that he enthroned Dorje Shugden as the protector of the Yellow Hats.

The question is, in this time can the 14 Dalai Lama have done that and then the freedom of Tibet can be achieved. Can the Dalai Lama consult with Dorje Shugden and do what is best to cooperate with the Chinese Government?  Instead of accusing Dorje Shugden being the obstacles for Tibet with China.

History shows contradictory answers to what the 14 Dalai Lama is doing is correct as compared to what was done during the 11th Dalai Lama.

Dorje Shugden is the agent for closer relationship between China and Tibet not the obstacle as being accused.
