If India wants Chinese support against terrorists, where is the Indian support against the Dalai Lama?

Whilst India wants international support against terrorists, it harbors the Dalai Lama, whom China considers to be a separatist. India will never have China’s full support until the Dalai Lama stops all activities against China especially on Indian soil. Only then will there be cooperation between the two Asian giants which is necessary for Asian stability.

Indian journalists sound desperate when they talk about terrorist attacks on India. As this article correctly states, there is little that India can do to address terrorism as they seem to operate from Pakistan. To deal with the terrorists, Indians will have to literally attack Pakistan which it cannot do.

Well, there is something India can do which is to stop Dharamsala’s terrorist activities against China being executed from Indian soil. The Tibetans have been attacking China for decades, yet they say they wish to return to Tibet. How do you return to a place you constantly criticize? The Dalai Lama is literally begging China to allow him to visit the Five Peaks of Manjushri pilgrimage site in China and also his birthplace in Amdo, Tibet. But if the Dalai Lama keeps criticizing China, why would they sit at the bargaining table with him? India allows for all of this to happen on Indian soil, so that would irritate China.

Yet India wants concessions from China on the terrorist issue. Meanwhile, Beijing equates Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) leader Hafiz Saeed to India supporting the Dalai Lama against China for five decades now. Furthermore, India wants China to speak up against Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) Masood Azhar. But India does not speak up against Dalai Lama. Whether the world thinks the Dalai Lama is the good guy or not, he is a thorn in China’s side so anyone that supports him is not supporting China. Similar to the situation, LeT’s Hafiz Saeed and JeM’s Masood Azhar are a thorn in India’s side but they do not bother China and her allies, so why should China do anything about them? If India does something on the Dalai Lama, then it would be fair to ask China to do something about their support of Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Saeed and Jaish-e-Mohammed’s Masood Azhar. Simple equation.

The only way that China will allow the Dalai Lama to return to his homeland and for India to gain China’s support against terrorists is for the Dalai Lama and the Tibetans to stop involving themselves in politics and protesting against China.

These reports are really bare-faced hypocrisy. It implies one nation is helpless against terrorists because the terrorists camp out in another country. But that did not stop the US from heavily bombing Iraq on the basis that it was harboring terrorists. The US did not hesitate to overthrow the government and murder its leader Saddam Hussein.

It is also very hypocritical that the same journalists who are outraged at China’s annexation of Tibet are quiet about Israel’s annexation of Palestine. It is interesting to note that most terrorist attacks are aimed at the US and her allies. Everyone conveniently forgets that the US has been throwing their weight around for decades and can even determine which leader they want in other countries.

Back to India – if China can convince North Korea to have détente with the US, China can similarly help India with the JeM. India simply has to give up the Tibet card. The article is also a one-sided opinion piece because India faces as many terrorist threats from Bangladesh, with just as many terrorist camps, but because Bangladesh is not China, their involvement is not mentioned.

India is a great country. China and India as friends will be able to influence the globe literally economically and, eventually, militarily. But India has to play fair. By supporting the Dalai Lama, India will get nothing and furthermore, it will be a stumbling block to China’s 1.4 billion people becoming friends with India’s 1.3 billion people.

The Dalai Lama has to be compassionate and stop speaking against China because he has to consider the difficulty he places India in as his host. Each time he criticizes and allows his refugees to protest against China and ask for western support, it makes China look bad. So if the Dalai Lama wants China and India to become closer and benefit each other economically then he has to be silent on this already.

The Diplomat‘s Prarthana Basu sums it up very well by saying in the article below that “Now with another terrorist attack infuriating India’s populace, the mystery behind this Chinese silence remains unsolved. While most attribute China’s apparent silence as a favor to Pakistan, as both continue to maintain their “all-weather friendship,” others argue that China holds India responsible for granting political asylum to the Tibetan leader Dalai Lama, whom Beijing equates to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) leader Hafiz Saeed.”

  1. What I can say is India is clever enough to do what seems to be right in front of the world. China is famous/notorious for protecting its sovereignty eg over Hong Kong, Macao, Tibet etc, some countries jeolous of that and use all kind of reason to make China look bad. Therefore when India helped Tibetan during their exile, India has become hero and China the bad guy. Of course no one is going to condemn India for not supporting China to go against the innocent buddhist monk ie the Dalai Lama and its government. Whereas when India is facing terrorist attacks, China is criticized for not helping and the whole word supported that. The reason is very obvious, in the eyes of the world, India is supporting a group of buddhists whereas China is supporting a group of terrorists. No one is going to care about the fact that those aggressive pro-Dalai activists are actually terrorists that can cause social unrest to China too.

  2. There is no right nor wrong views on politics. It is all about presenting the motivation to garner international support. At the end of most political games played throughout history, it is the populace that suffers.

However in the case of India’s support to the Dalai Lama, it is a stale story which had been on for the last 60 years. The question India should ask is whether supporting aggression by the Dalai Lama and his government on China from Indian soil serves India now. The world has changed and economic growth is the progress that the populace looks for. That progress can only be achieved through peace, trust and cooperation.

It is time that bashing China about the Tibetan and Dalai Lama cause is over and let there be cooperation that will benefit the populace and not intentions that support the greed unrealistic dream of a few.

  3. Yup! How do you expect something good when you keep condemning China? I bet China really dislike the DL for using India as a ‘cover’. And why does India allow DL to create such disharmony in their country against other countries. A country like India letting a non existing ‘govt’ to cause problems is definitely not a good thing. Cta is nothing if India didn’t let them have it. India shouldn’t let the DL and cta do as they like. It causes more damage everytime they open their mouth!!!

  4. Looks likes the Tibetan Government doesn’t even care about what happened to India. As long as they have a place to stay, continue taking money from the world and money goes into Lobsang Sangay’s pocket, end of story. I think they don’t even care whether the Dalai Lama able to return to China or not. In real fact, it looks like they are the one that’s creating the ripple, they are the one who even ignore who is the Dalai Lama now. They don’t seem to understand, be enemy with China, doesn’t bring any benefit but destroy. Same like they ban Dorje Shugden. Banning Dorje Shugden practice and discriminating Dorje Shugden practitioners, doesn’t bring any benefit to the CTA. Yet, they still want to do it.

  5. India has to think thoroughly if being friends or enemy with China brings benefit to them. If India needs China’s help to solve the terrorist issue then India has to be friends with China in order for China to assist them.

  6. Whatever it is, one thing is for sure. Dalai Lama wants to return to Tibet one day and India would welcome that because by this way the near irrelevant CTA will have no more support and vanish by itself. Many Tibetans will either become Indian citizens for good and others will leave for another country.

  7. The Dalai Lama too has to be compassionate and stop speaking against Dorje Shugden and allow everyone to heal and unite back. Why go around talking about compassion when he was the one who started the Dorje Shugden controversy? It doesn’t do justice to his image that he has built over so many years.

    Unquote.

  8. Be grateful & humble, the world has enough wars..stop this before it’s too late.

    Dalai-Lama-on-Healers

  9. The Tibetan card should be over now for India. This card is a history for India to play with as US will no longer be the allies and China is growing strong in all sector and most importantly is India needs China now! Situation and condition changed according to time, so to India stand now. Before this India should have already feel the tense by having Tibetan and Dalai Lama in the way and now situation is getting more crucial with the terrorist issue. India just have to play smart and safe now.

For the Tibetan and Dalai lama, they know what they supposed to do especially at this moment. If they don’t then no one can help them for being ignorant. Everyone is moving forward and those who still living in the past will just be left out. The earth never stops moving and we know what is the consequences if its stop, this apply to everyone living in the earth.

It’s just up to the Tibetan leadership on which way they want to move on. It’s definitely not an easy route for them as they never want to change their strategy to move along. China is growing stronger and getting more support in the world. If the Tibetan leadership still looking only for their personal interest, then we will see them drown. Just too bad for the people that had so much hope on the Tibetan leadership.

  10. India has been accepting Tibetan exiles for 60 years. India has been pro-Dalai Lama for a long time. However, last year India cancelled two major events in its capital that organised by the Central Tibetan Administration, one of them is “Thank you, India” and also India has encouraged the Tibetan-in-exile to apply the India citizenship. All this have marked that India will have less support to Tibet. The reason behind is India need to improve the relationship with China for the benefit of their peoples. Yet, the CTA keep criticize China to gain support from western country and financial support. With the CTA keep criticizing China, how the Tibetan-in- exile can return to Tibet ?

  11. India has compassionate support Tibetan in exile. In human right, India has do his better to provide refuge place for tibetan in exile. What i can said is CTA and Tibetan leadership action has fall badly in the public eyes. Whatever they keep critizing China over 60 year
has bring no result to seek peace with China. The other way down Tibetan only throw their anger blaming China. These way will end soon, people has clearly see through what CTA has done.

  12. The only things to keep everything in peace and harmony for both countries are to forgive and forgave. Criticizing, condemning each other won’t give any beneficial especially on bigger and stronger country like China. Time changed, revolution had begun long time ago and yet Tibet is behind time. Isn’t it very silly of holding grudge that had been prolonged for over 60 years ago?

  13. What an interesting piece of write up. Yes, it does seem logical now why China stepped back from voting their support of Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Saeed and Jaish-e-Mohammed’s Masood Azhar as terrorists. After all, India herself supports “terrorists” on her soil in the form of the Dalai Lama and CTA. There is a strong similarity in the comparison and it is true, why is China always criticised when the America and other western counterparts had done far worst atrocities on some “danger to the world” excuse.

I do agree that India should really decide their stance in wishing to establish a friendship with China or to support the Dalai Lama and CTA even when their people’s lives are at stake. Which is more beneficial?

  14. India has been helping Tibet for decades, now can Tibet, the CTA or the Dalai Lama help India when he’s facing problem. Not only CTA bad Dalia Lama can’t help, they even became an obstacle for India to ask for help. The only one can help India to settle terrorists issues in dia is China. But China will not help India due to CTA and Dalai Lama. I do hope CTA and Dalai Lama be compassionate and create more peace with China so that India can seek help from China.

  15. As an Indian, I think it is enough of India supporting Dalia Lama and his Tibetians. They have been in India for 60 years and they have accomplished nothing so far and never returning to Tibet. They had not learn how to negotiate and no power against China. Tibetians in India have no power at all.

India must be friend with China. This will benefit India long term. Being friends with Tibetians brings no benefit to India.

  16. 1st Time Dalai Lama Finally Admits His Illness Was Serious

In the past it is customary to cover up the Dalai Lama’s illnesses. It could be to not worry his flock. It could also be to not show the world he is just another vulnerable human being. Or it could be he does not want to disappoint people to show he is not a god? Whatever the reasons, the Dalai Lama and regime are well known for covering up his serious illnesses. In the past few years he had cancer of the prostate and that was covered up till the press dug it up. Now with this new video just out April 2019, Dalai Lama admits he was recently very ill. It was serious.

Unfortunately the Tibetan cause will die with the Dalai Lama when he passes. He did nothing to groom up a new leader as he is a dictator. A ruler for life. He has been in power for over 60 years. He will never groom up another person to replace him because he is touted as a god.

  17. Unlike 5 years ago, Tibetan leader Lobsang Sangay is not invited to Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony this time. It is clear that PM Modi of India snubs the Tibetan leadership once again in favour of deeper ties with China. The Tibetan leadership finds itself increasingly isolated as nobody wants to offend China by lending any support to the ungrateful Tibetans.

PM Modi snubs Tibetan leadership for swearing-in ceremony
    By Tenzin Dharpo
    May. 30, 2019
DHARAMSHALA, May 30: The Indian Prime Minister who is fresh off of a massive win in the Indian Lok Sabha elections has done a U-turn by not inviting exile Tibetan government’s President to the swearing in ceremony due to be held later today, in a bid to not anger Beijing.
The President of the exile Tibetan government, known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration, Dr. Lobsang Sangay’s absence today at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi marks a stark contrast to 2014 when the elected Tibetan leader was seated in the former rows at the ceremony when PM Modi was sworn into office the first time around.
The invitation to Dr. Sangay in May 2014 drew strong objection from the Chinese government who lodged an official protest censuring New Delhi’s disregard for the so-called ‘One-China policy’. Many said at the time that the invite was posturing at most, of Modi’s intent to India’s neighbor and biggest rivals both in Asia and global arenas.
The New Delhi-Beijing relations post the Doklam stand off and Wuhan summit has meant that India has given a cold shoulder to the exile Tibetan set up, thereby taking a step back in using the much-touted ‘Tibet card’. The shift in policy has markedly been seen on the ground with New Delhi issuing an advisory to senior leaders to avoid His Holiness the Dalai Lama or pushing the CTA to shift the “thank you India” ceremony from New Delhi to Dharamshala last year.
The head of the Tibetan polity who extended pleasantries to PM Modi on his win, however may have anticipated the snub. Days after Modi’s historic election win, Sangay flew to the United States and is scheduled to return on June 5 to India next week.

  18. What Chinese wants is India to stop emphasizing Dalai Lama and helping them? India needs China and will follow what the Chinese said. CTA is in big trouble now. India already stops his officer to attend any of the Tibetan events and they will be more to come. CTA really needs to be in the Chinese good book for negotiation to return.

  19. Obviously, China would want India to side them and do what China wants. China has a big influence now and many countries would want China to invest in their country to bring economic growth. CTA is at the losing side and their host no longer backing them. India already started taking action towards CTA by not attending their events this will not end here. CTA has to quickly resolve their issue with China in a good manner in order not to irk them and for them to willing to consider their request. If CTA blows their chance up then Dalai Lama and the Tibetan in India can consider either be an Indian citizen or apply for other countries.

  20. India is already in a difficult position ever since Tibetan residing in India. But now India in a better position with China as long as India listens to China especialy in handling the Tibetan. China is in a better situation in influencing India as both of them are creating a great friendship to improve each other economy status.

On the other hand, CTA is in a bad situation where the host is no longer on their side. CTA should really stop irritating the Chinese and find ways to work out with the Chinese if they really want to go back to Tibet.

.…Instead of turning away people who practise Dorje Shugden, we should be kind to them. Give them logic and wisdom without fear, then in time they give up the ‘wrong’ practice. Actually Shugden practitioners are not doing anything wrong. But hypothetically, if they are, wouldn’t it be more Buddhistic to be accepting? So those who have views against Dorje Shugden should contemplate this. Those practicing Dorje Shugden should forbear with extreme patience, fortitude and keep your commitments. The time will come as predicted that Dorje Shugden’s practice and it’s terrific quick benefits will be embraced by the world and it will be a practice of many beings.
