The Dalai Lama Must Apologize!

Fit to be labelled the Most Famous Refugee in the World, the Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959 and has been living in India for almost 60 years.

By: Heinrich Hauff

When Sweden’s Democrats, an extreme right-wing political party with a white nationalist agenda gained a significant win to become the deal-maker who would form the next government of Sweden, the entire European community braced itself for an outpouring of extremist views.

Europe was already in the grip of a tense situation. Yet a very provocative statement was made from a totally unlikely source, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who should have known better than to create even more problems for the Europeans. Only three days after Sweden’s election results, the Dalai Lama, at the start of his European tour in Malmo, Sweden, spoke publicly about how “Europe is for Europeans”. This has since ignited debates that have been raging for nearly two weeks with no signs of dissipation.

With the now infamous ultranationalistic and racist statement, the Dalai Lama revealed how far removed he is from current global affairs and how ignorant he is about the tragedies that have struck the Afghan people and other afflicted groups who have since become reluctant refugees. This is not to mention the disasters that have visited the people of Somalia, Eritrea and those under the Assad and other totalitarian regimes. If the Dalai Lama does not have his finger on the pulse of global affairs, it is only proper for him to refrain from speaking on inflammatory socio-political topics. Especially seeing how he had caused a furore with his remarks on Indian political issues just a month prior. This is especially so given the fact that he has utterly failed to solve the Tibetan refugee problem even after 60 years in exile. Shouldn’t the Dalai Lama focus on solving his own problems instead of creating new ones for the Europeans?

The need for the Dalai Lama to not be issuing political statements couldn’t be any more apparent especially when innocent lives are at stake. For these refugees fleeing their homeland, the conditions in their countries of origin are far from being resolved and are unlikely to be in the near future. To send refugees back to situations where they would face mortal peril is tantamount to signing their death sentence. In addition, what exactly does the Dalai Lama mean when he speaks of their eventual return? And when? In five years? Ten? How arbitrary and miscalculated all that is.

Syrian refugees make up a large percentage of the European Refugee Crisis

As a monk with neither formal education nor training in politics, the blunders the Dalai Lama has made have had wide-reaching consequences, especially when parties manipulate them with harmful agendas. The bottom line is this – for the Dalai Lama to be making statements that stoke Islamophobia, he is carelessly disregarding human lives.

Theo Horesh, the author of the article, “The Dalai Lama Owes An Apology” published in the Elephant Journal, could not help but note the irony:

“The Dalai Lama is himself a refugee who cannot return home without fearing for his life, but he doubled down when asked to clarify his remarks the next day. Perhaps he did not recognize the way his words were being used, or else he simply misspoke. But it is unlikely, given that he is the head of state to a nation in exile and a perceptive thinker who chooses his words carefully.”

Even though popular opinion may place the Dalai Lama as a veteran statesman who saved his people from genocide, it is time to ask what this Nobel Peace Prize winner has really achieved. To begin with, what has the Dalai Lama done to really help the people of Syria, for example, when they were torn apart by war and before they were forced to become refugees? What has the Dalai Lama done to help afflicted countries such as the African nations find peaceful resolutions to the violent disputes that have plagued them? Most relevantly, what has the Dalai Lama done to resolve the Tibetan refugee crisis? (if we can even call it a crisis in this day and age)

  1. Tibet is still a part of the People’s Republic of China and there is no sign of the Dalai Lama ever regaining sovereignty over his own homeland.
  2. The Dalai Lama himself is still a refugee.
  3. The Dalai Lama’s subjects in exile are still refugees. What’s more, Tibetan refugees have also sought to make Europe their home. So it is not only those who fled from war-torn Syria that make up Europe’s refugee population but also Tibetan refugees who contribute to the concerns of the Europeans. Why the Dalai Lama did not address his own people and demand that they are repatriated from Europe is a mystery. After all, they have been there much longer than any other refugees.
  4. There is no progress with the Middle Way Approach to seek autonomy within China. In fact, all dialogue with China came to a grinding halt many years ago.

Migrants being rescued in the Mediterranean Sea

Truth be told, the Tibetan people are more hopeless today than they were in 1959 and the Tibetan refugee population who continue to trust and rely on the Dalai Lama’s government is only about half the number in diaspora. The rest seem to have taken matters into their own hands. Shouldn’t the Dalai Lama demonstrate that he can ably solve the Tibetan people’s issues before meddling with Europe’s migrant problems?

For this former head of the Tibetan government-in-exile, the past 60 years have presented countless opportunities to resolve the Tibetan refugee crisis. China’s rise as a global superpower could have meant a slew of benefits for the Tibetan people, but instead of placing emphasis on building relations with the Chinese government, the Dalai Lama directs his attention to everywhere else but China.

In his article, Horesh also displays extraordinary astuteness in his observation of why the Dalai Lama’s Islamophobic statement is ridiculous. He gives the hypothetical example of a Syrian immigrant who has carved a new life in an adoptive country for the past 10 years – his new wife is Turkish, his children are German, and his business is located in Berlin. How can you repatriate such a person back to a country that he and his wife and children have no cultural connection with? How can you ask them to unravel their lives all over again and agree to be alienated one more time just because the Dalai Lama said so?

If we were to go along with the Dalai Lama’s philosophy on refugees returning to develop their home countries, then the question that begs asking is, when will Tibetans-in-exile in Europe and North America be returning to Tibet? What about the Tibetans who have taken foreign partners and those in families with children of mixed race? Are they to reject their new found homes where they have lived for the majority of their lives to simply return to Tibet? After being in Europe for so many decades, many Tibetans are merely Tibetan in name, but culturally they are not. Will these Tibetans who have absorbed decades of foreign culture just transplant themselves and integrate instantly in Tibet, China? Or is the Dalai Lama’s philosophy only for Muslims? If not, why doesn’t it apply to Tibetans too?

Until today, the Dalai Lama has made little progress for the Tibetan cause with the Chinese Government but maintains close relationships with Western leaders

Whether knowingly, or as some allege, unknowingly, the Dalai Lama stoked racist and negative religious sentiments with his irrational statement. This is another sign that as a Buddhist monk, he should not involve himself with European politics as his lack of knowledge in political affairs can be used to hurt other people. It is a glaring revelation that the Tibetan leader lacks in education, exposure and history.

“Like all identities, Europeanness is a mental construction. There is no essence to it; rather, it is what we make it. And the more expansive our idea of it, the more inclusive it can be of the people actually living in it.”

Theo Horesh is brilliant in saying that identities such as ‘Europeanness’ are a mental construction. Of all people, the Dalai Lama who champions Buddhist teachings on subjects like the inherent emptiness of all phenomena, should already know this. Yet, the Dalai Lama conveniently forgets that Albania, Kosovo and Bosnia are three countries in Europe that are also Muslim states. Even Turkey is predominantly Muslim. All of these three Muslim countries are not recent inclusions in the European Union, and therefore the Dalai Lama’s statement on Muslims not being a part of Europe, and on how Europe is for Europeans is another shout out of his ignorance. But more to the point, shouldn’t a spiritual leader promote tolerance and pluralistic views? If our concept of personal and national identities can be broadened to be more inclusive, then clearly there is a better chance for people to live together in harmony.

Horesh summarizes it well when he says that the Dalai Lama’s half-hearted statement has caused hurt, immediately increased Islamophobia and played into the hands of extreme right-wing policies that could be damaging in the long-term. In the present day, these xenophobic extremists are attacking Muslims but who will be next? Will they target other refugees or migrants such as Indians, Asians, Pacific Islanders and so on?

Ultimately, the false identity of Europe for Europeans is a very negligent and damaging statement from someone such as the Dalai Lama who is regarded as a “seasoned politician”. Given that this statement has drastically decreased respect for the popular Tibetan leader worldwide, then perhaps the Dalai Lama who is the most famous refugee in the world, as Horesh says, should apologise.

  1. Is the Dalai Lama a genuine humble Buddhist monk who will apologize for his mistakes? Or a hardened dictatorial ‘God-King’ who is above everyone and beyond reproach and to egotistical to apologize? What do you all think?

    DL

  2. With the Dalai Lama’s political savvy throughout his 60 years, he had managed to garner such strong support and monetary funding. Won the Nobel Peace Prize and famous around the world, although politically he had not made much headway into regaining Tibet back for his people. And he is the same mind-stream as Buddha Avalokitesvara. So I really don’t think that the Dalai Lama is unknowing in his “blunders”. As mentioned in the article which explained so clearly, the Dalai Lama must first clean up his own backyard. Remaining at refugee status after 60 years and never going back to his own country to progress as he stated for the Muslim refugees in Europe should do. Why does he think that his situation is unique to that of a muslim refugee? His words will cause so much stress and difficulties for those who had settled and integrated with the host countries. Wonder what the Dalai Lama’s ‘grand plans’ were to speak out of turn on so many occasions?

  3. Yes there are Islamic fighters/criminal elements within the Muslim communities who have sought refuge in Europe. Tell me which community of people has no criminal elements.

The Dalai Lama callous statements, makes him look hypocritical as he is a refugee himself. Secondly over generalizing people, has never ended well for generalizing people, I can say what the Dalai Lama is very close to what the Nazis did to the Jews in WW2.

  4. Basically, when we want to do something, we may face difficulties and the more we fail and recover and improve, the better we will get and achieve the goal ultimately. However, for the Tibetan people have tried hard in the past 60 years for free Tibet, but still fail to deliver the intended results. It is really sad to see that 60 years already passed, but the Tibetan people are still refugees. Tibet is the still part of China, it would be a good choice for HH Dalai Lama and the people go back Tibet, enjoy the same rights to protect their own cultures and religions.

  5. I just wonder what is the real motive of Dalai Lama in saying so “Europe is for Europeans”. Dalai Lama himself is a refugee, I thought He is very much understood how refugee’s feeling by leaving their homeland to other people’s countries. Refugees have no home to return and they are struggled to find themselves to live in the foreign countries culture. With what Dalai Lama said, it has for sure create so much harm not only to Muslim refugees, it is also harming to other refugees in Europe include the His own Tibetan people as well. As a spiritual leader, should Dalai Lama to be more compassion and promote harmony?

Another thing is when Dalai Lama says “Europe is for Europeans”, people will ask the question that is “Tibetan will go back to Tibet”? Shouldn’t Dalai Lama put the full force of His energy to resolve Tibetan people’s issue which already 60 years in exile rather meddling with Europe’s migrant problems?

  6. Dalai Lama doesn’t even have ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DEGREE. He is an idiot. People stop following a con man. All the books from him were written by ghost writers. American are using him to make money. Wake up people.

  7. I am sadden and disappointed with such statement. 😔What is all the talk about acceptance of others and accepting multracial and multicultural diversity. If we want peace and harmony we must not segregate from others. Not a single country in the world are free from racial issues. Even within the same race we have issues.

Europeans have the right to be angry because they have chosen diversity while Europe for Europeans statement is the antithesis of that. Europeans have made their decision and therefore we should respect that.

  8. Sorry to say, having studied the teachings and writings of Dalai Lama, it is almost beyond me to comprehend the contradiction to what the Dalai Lama preaches and what he says without taking the worst scenario as to what he does.

How is it that having all the compassion resulting in acceptance of everything, that the Dalai Lama talks of separation and segregation among people. Often to the tune of being schismatic in his definition of categorising. Aren’t all humans are similar and equal?

Pray that the Dalai Lama will walk the talk to endorse the teachings of the essence of Dharma.

  9. It is very disturbing when the Dalai Lama who has been a refugee for 60 years goes around and making statements about other refugees who recently had to flee their country.

However the situation is in Europe, the Dalai Lama is not living there and there are many Tibetans who live in Europe. It is amazing how on a daily basis the Dalai Lama makes statements that are making others uncomfortable. I think, he should focus first on his own people…

  10. He is really out of touch and his minions are useless.
The EU has been managing this quite nicely and do not need him to power fuel on fire. Look at the statistics below.
I’m sure he has more enemies in Europe now.

    First_time_asylum_applicants,_EU-28,_January_2017_–_March_2018

  11. His Holiness Dalai Lama really sealed the fate of fellow Tibetans in foreign countries. What happens now? Will all the Tibetans who escaped to foreign countries will be deported back to Tibet now?

We escaped overseas to be away from the grasp of our useless government CTA and now His Holiness even closed the last door to our hope of getting a decent life? He is forcing us to stay with the CTA and we will be worst than dead.

I really wish His Holiness will just not say anything to make things worst for Tibetans because it’s already bad enough.

  12. It is very unfortunate that the Nobel Peace Prize Winner is making now the headlines for his extremely bad chosen comments on things that matter for many people.

There are many countries where people have to leave their very own country for danger of their life and other countries are kind enough to give them a shelter and care enough to view the situation of these refugees.

But now, the Dalai Lama who is himself a refugee for 60 years with the Tibetans in Exile comments just on this and asks the refugees to go home and rebuilt their country.

I guess if they take 60 years or more such as the Tibetans, they will still have plenty of time to reflect on it. But I guess most refugees will not have this time to ponder.

  13. In order to speed up the Tibetans’return to Tibet, the Dalai Lama chose the middle way to continue the free Tibet journey. He had to negotiate with China so that the Tibetans in exile could return to Tibet. However, after so many years, no progress has been made in the negotiations, which has disappointed the Tibetans living in the Tibetan SAR in India and began to lose confidence in his leadership.

This time, the Dalai Lama once again intervened and commented on the issue of refugees in European countries, and suggested that the refugees be expelled and the situation become more unsettled. This is not what the Dalai Lama should do as a leader of the Nobel Peace Prize winner. DalaiLama should apologize

  14. CTA really useless in these kinds of situation because they can help His Holiness to clear the miscommunication. Instead of helping, they just do their own thing and did not bother to help out even in here in my country. They only sell Dalai Lama’s general books and never helped the Dalai Lama to explain what he had said. Sooner or later His Holiness will not be with CTA and they will be forced to close down because by that time the government is not needed. Im waiting for His Holiness to announce the date of his visit to Beijing

  15. For the Dalai Lama to say something this insensitive is really a low blow especially since he himself is considered a refugee. So why don’t the Dalai Lama return to Tibet himself and ask his own people to who are taking advantage of the “FREE” land and free from paying taxes to also return to Tibet?

Oh yes heard he did say that but no one is listening… http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/dalai-lama-advocates-tibetans-return-to-china-to-capitalize-on-chinas-prosperity/

So it makes me wonder, does the CTA really care about the Dalai Lama or is he just their bread butter, another pawn for their own self-serving agendas. Probably the latter. 😱

  16. Transcript: Dalai Lama is a Racist Nazi
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_J_we4rp34

Dalai Lama is a piece of shit and a disgusting scumbag. It is, it is insane this cunt comes to Europe and tells us that we should not accept more refugees. Is he fucking retarded? It is amazing, like you don’t expect from people like, like those to be Nazis and to support all the right. It’s just insane a spiritual leader is a fucking Nazi dude. Europe needs more refugees, way more than we already have. Do you understand? And this degenerate says that we should send refugees back to where they came from and that we should help the countries of the refugees. His suggestions are, it’s obvious, like obviously we should help the countries of the, of the refugees, of their origin, but we should not send anyone back. We need more refugees in Europe and we should not deport anyone. We should give money to the refugees so they can stay in Europe and live here. What this Dalai Lama is suggesting is very inhumane, that’s all what I wanted to say. Hopefully in future we will get more migrants in Europe. Hopefully we can help more people. Let’s hope, let’s hope for the better.

  17. The statement the Dalai Lama made is really shocking and disappointing. As a refugee himself, doesn’t the Dalai Lama know how hard it is for someone to flee their homes and maybe never to go back again? They have lost everything they have, including their friends and families.

I expect the Dalai Lama to say something encouraging to the refugees in Europe because he is also one of them. He could have used his own experience to bring comfort to the refugees, to bring them hope. But his shocking statement has made many lost their respect for him.

Why is the Dalai Lama keeps making insensitive statements? Didn’t the CTA learn their lesson from the Nehru incident? The Dalai has created so many PR disasters for the CTA and himself, why did the CTA still allow him to do that? Is it because they have to use the Dalai Lama to make money for them? Or is this one of the tactics the Dalai Lama uses so he doesn’t have to attend public functions anymore?

  18. The issue of Indian resentment towards the Tibetan refugees living on Indian soil is nothing new. The Tibetans have built comfortable lives for themselves in India and enjoy many privileges including exemption from paying tax. All of this is done without Tibetans showing genuine concern for the less fortunate in their host country.

The story below, which took place over 24 years ago, is a reflection of how fragile the Tibetan situation is in India. When a Tibetan murdered an Indian following a dispute, chaos ensued, and the Dalai Lama had to consider moving out of Dharamsala. Tensions between the Indian and Tibetan community have not normalised and remain high in the area even until today.

Hate campaign shatters calm of Dalai Lama
TIM MCGIRK in New Delhi | Wednesday 11 May 1994 00:02
THE Dalai Lama, the spiritual and political leader of Tibet, has threatened to move the headquarters of his government-in-exile from Dharamsala, in the Himalayas of northern India, after two local politicians incited Indians to go on a rampage against Tibetan refugees.
The calm of Dharamsala, the forested retreat where the Dalai Lama and 8,000 other Tibetan monks and refugees have been living since 1960, was shattered on 22 April when an Indian youth, who belonged to a caste of shepherds known as the gaddis, was stabbed to death by a Tibetan in a fight which developed over an India versus Pakistan cricket match on television.
During the funeral Krishan Kapoor, a politician belonging to the rightwing Hindu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), yanked the shroud off the corpse, reached into the cadaver’s open stomach, pulled out a length of intestine, and held it high. ‘This is what the Tibetans have done]’ he yelled.
The mourners went berserk. Shouting ‘Death to the Dalai Lama]’ and ‘Long Live Deng Xiaoping]’ the mob stormed the compound of the Tibetan government-in-exile, smashed windows, set fires and destroyed furniture. They then looted Tibetan shops and beat up refugees.
Not to be outdone by Mr Kapoor, the rival Congress politician, a shrill ex-princess named Chandresh Kumari, helped circulate a petition calling for the Dalai Lama and the Tibetans to get out of India. The Dalai Lama, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, was abroad during these events, but in a statement he said: ‘To avoid a conflict becoming a major problem in the future, it is best that I move out of Dharamsala. I am very, very sad that an individual incident has, unfortunately, been allowed to be manipulated by local politicians and this makes it serious.’ He mentioned moving to Bangalore, in southern India, which would mean dismantling the government-in-exile’s offices, Tibetan medicine centres, libraries, monasteries and schools. In all, more than 100,000 Tibetan refugees are scattered around the country.
In goading the gaddis against the Tibetans, both Mr Kapoor and Ms Kumari are aiming to pick up support from the poor but numerous shepherds’ community. Even before the stabbing, the gaddis’ resentment against the refugees was high. They blame them for driving up land prices and envy the prosperity of some Tibetan shopowners.
One recent pamphlet warned: ‘If you Tibetans do not leave Dharamsala by 25 July, we will bomb you out.’

  19. A Plot to Murder the Dalai Lama

Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, South India, says there is a plot to murder the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.

  20. A plot to murder the Dalai Lama by a Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorist named Kausar was recently uncovered. Kausar planned to cause the Dalai Lama’s demise and blow up Buddhist temples in the Indian State of Karnataka as revenge for the attacks on Rohingya Muslims by some Buddhists in Myanmar.

Although Kausar’s plans are appalling and cannot be justified, it is a reminder that the Dalai Lama as a well-known Buddhist personality has a moral obligation to discourage religious persecution in any form. This even includes the discrimination experienced by Dorje Shugden practitioners.

Bengaluru: JMB terrorists targeted Buddhist temples in Karnataka?
    Tue, Oct 2 2018 01:46:48 PM
Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)
Bengaluru, Oct 2: Explosive information about the plans of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorist Kausar alias Muneer Sheikh alias Mohammed Jahidul Islam (38) has been unearthed in which he had targeted to blow up the Buddhist temples of the state.
Earlier in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigation, it came to light that Kausar had planned to plant a bomb at the programme of Buddhist leader Dalai Lama that was held in the month of August at Ramanagara. Dalai Lama had participated in the programme that was held on August 13 at the Dalai Lama Institute of Higher Education, which is situated at the Bengaluru – Mysuru road. Kausar was arrested by NIA on August 7, barely six days before the programme.
With regard to this information, the top officials of the CID department have held a meeting on Monday, October 1 and it was decided to conduct a separate investigation of this issue, as per the information given by home minister.
It was also decided to gather information to know whether Kausar had visited the sites of important Buddhist temples in the state like Bailukuppe Tibetan Camp at Kushalnagar in Kodagu, Kollegal and the camp at Mundagod of Uttara Kannada district.
It is confirmed from the interrogation that Kausar had planned to conduct acts of sabotage and explosions, targeting the Buddhists living in India, as a revenge to the attacks on Rohingya Muslims by the Buddhists in Myanmar. In addition, the investigating officers have also said that Kausar, who had lived in and around Bengaluru from 2014, had hatched a plot to kill Dalai Lama.
NIA officials had arrested an accomplice of Kausar in the case of Bodh Gaya bombings. It is also confirmed that the JMB terrorists had planned in Kerala to carry out acts of sabotage in the state of Karnataka. It is learnt that a special team will be sent to Kerala also to know Kausar’s link there.
One accomplice of Kausar still absconding
NIA has so far arrested seven accused in the Bodh Gaya explosion case. However, Arif Hussain, one more accused and accomplice of Kausar is absconding. Arif is one of the members of the gang that kept IED explosives in the Kalachakra ground of Bodh Gaya. During the investigation, a shocking piece of information has come to light that Arif had met Kausar after the blasts and also discussed with regards to the failure of the intended plan.
    Expert in manufacturing IED explosives
Kausar, the JMB terrorist is an expert in manufacturing IED explosives. He had come to India with his accomplice Muzafir Rehman from Bangladesh and had planned to carry out terrorist acts on a large scale. Kausar had also trained his accomplices with regards to the manufacture of IED.
No information of intended bombings in state, says CM
“No plot was hatched to kill Buddhist leader Dalai Lama in the state of Karnataka. Police are about to file charge sheet against the accused who have been arrested for the bomb blasts that took place in Bodh Gaya. However, I do not know why the name of Dalai Lama is mentioned in this issue. There is no relation between terrorist Kausar, who was caught in Ramanagara, and the attempt on the life of Dalai Lama. However, the police are going to conduct investigation in this angle also. The central government has not sought any information in this regard from the state government,” clarified CM Kumaraswamy to the media.
Speaking on the issue, Dr G Parameshwar, DCM, said, “The officers of NIA are not sharing any information with us with regard to the plot hatched by the terrorists. They gather information at the international level and arrest the terrorists.”
Former CM Jagadish Shettar accused the state government and said, “A comprehensive inquiry has to be conducted relating to the issue of the plot to kill Dalai Lama by JMB terrorists. The arrest of suspected terrorists by the NIA shows the utter failure of the state CID.”

  21. The fact that rangzen activists aim for the goal of Tibetan independence is at odds with the Dalai Lama’s goal for Tibet’s autonomy. This is nothing new but it is an undeniable fact that the Dalai Lama is the most recognisable Tibetan face and representative for the Tibetan Cause. However, for years now there has been a deficit of trust between China and the Dalai Lama, which leaves the future of Tibetan refugees in limbo.

Recently, the Dalai Lama tried to take conciliatory steps towards China by acknowledging that development in the Tibet Autonomous Region is beneficial and expressed his desire to return to China. He even said he wants to go on pilgrimage to Mount Wutai, China’s most famous Buddhist site. The fact that the Rangzen people are still protesting against China however shows their true colour. They are against the Dalai Lama and want to make sure that his efforts to help Tibetans are unsuccessful.

Activists coalition rally against “Xi-the-Pooh” at Un headquarters in NY
    [Thursday, September 20, 2018 18:01]
    By Tenzin Dharpo
DHARAMSHALA, Sep. 20: Activists from various countries that calls for freedom from China’s repression gathered in front of the United Nation’s headquarters in New York City on Tuesday on the opening day of the 73rd General Assembly to protest CCP honcho Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Activists from Tibet, East Turkestan, Southern Mongolia and Hong Kong, Taiwan as well as pro-democracy groups in unison called for the end to repressive policies implemented by China and freedom for their countries. The coalition labelled the Chinese president “Xi-the Pooh” in resemblance to cartoon character Winnie the Pooh who is incidentally banned in China, in addition to calling the Chinese leader “Xitler” likening him to infamous Nazi dictator Adolf Hilter.
Members of the Students for a Free Tibet, Tibetan Youth Congress and Tibetan National Congress joined in the rally that saw activists throw ink at an effigy of Xi in apparent solidarity with Chinese woman Dong Yaoqiong who threw ink at a poster of Xi in Shanghai on July 4. The 29-year-old from Hunan province was arrested by Chinese police in July and has been detained in a mental institution, sources say.
SFT Executive Director Dorjee Tsetan led the protest where activists denounced China’s narrative that Xi as the face of new China inching towards leadership in the global arena and reiterate their resistance in the face of Xi-led CCP’s totalitarian rule.
Tiananmen massacre survivor and pro-democracy activist Rose Tang wrote in her Facebook page, “Very honoured to be with my sisters and brothers from Tibet, East Turkestan, Southern Mongolia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and the US to de-face Xitler. Xitler and the Chinese Communist Party rely on lies and violence; our weapons are peace, love and compassion. We shall defeat Xitler!”
Representatives from various occupied nations and activists such as Ilshat Hassan, President of Uyghur American Association, Enghebatu Togochog, Director of Southern Mongolian Human Rights Information Center, Sarah Cook, Senior Researcher for East Asia, Freedom House, Teng Baio, Chinese Human Rights Lawyer and Activist, Omer Karnat, Director, Uyghur Human Rights Project, Ngawang Tharchin, President, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress NY/NJ, Anna Cheung, Activist, New York For Hong Kong and Marvin Kumetat, US Program Coordinator, Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization were seen speaking at the protest rally in New York city.

  22. Sex Predator in a Monk’s Robes?

In USA, Shambhala’s head Sakyong Mipham with his huge ceremonial hat, blue and gold brocades on a high throne. So much pomp and ceremony and underneath it all was a monster… a sexual predator in religious robes exploiting women and people. Such a disgusting shame. Sakyong should be barred from any activities in the future and go for counselling. He needs it badly. His father was Chogyam Trungpa who did the same thing to women and included drugs and orgies in the 70′s. Dalai Lama supports Sakyong Mipham as sizeable donations were given to the Dalai Lama’s office. Shame. We all thought Dalai Lama was clairvoyant and can see the hearts of sentient beings? Sakyong Mipham wears monk robes, shaves his head but has a wife and kids. Why keep wearing monk robes? He is wearing monk robes to look authentic as he is not authentic. Easier to swindle and fool people. Ontop of wearing robes, shaved head masquerading as a monk, has a wife and kids, he further attacks other women sexually. What kind of spiritual leader is this? Disgusting.

  23. A refugee who has been living in a foreign land for 60 years is urging new refugees in Europe to go back to their own countries? This sounds offensive and ridiculous. What is the Dalai Lama trying to say? Doesn’t he know he is also a refugee? Is his statement also meant for the Tibetans in exile?

How can he say Europe belongs to the Europeans? Is he encouraging intolerance in Europe? The Europeans have the long history of colonising other countries, so how can Europe belong to only the Europeans? If that is the case, the white people in North America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, etc, should all go back to the place where their ancestors were originated from and the Tibetans should go back to Tibet.

Or did the Dalai Lama say this on purpose so he can be sent back to China? He wants to go back to China very much but until today there is no talk or dialogue between the CTA and the Chinese government. Perhaps this is the way the Dalai Lama is putting pressure on the Tibetan leadership to get things moving. Whatever it is, the Dalai Lama should apologise to the refugees in Europe for making such offensive comments. Many people are very disappointed with the statement he made.

  24. Looking back now that the Dalai Lama has received the Nobel Peace Prize is kind of strange. Instead of promoting peace, the Dalai Lama seems to create huge problems in the European countries with his comments.

It is sure not easy to live with the many refugees but the situation for the refugees themselves must be horrible too, knowing what is going on in their country and they have for sure family and friends who are still there.

So, the Dalai Lama being a refugee himself, shouldn’t he promote peace and understanding?

I guess, he is preparing to go back to Tibet too, if not why would he comment so much on other refugees… I sure wish that the Dalai Lama could go back home soon.

  25. Truly shocking news!

  26. The statment made by the Dalai Lama is not pleasant and it is very offensive. He is a refugee himself, he should understand how hard it is to live in another country. It is definitely not the refugees’ wish to leave their home and seek asylum in a land they are not familiar with.

He could have used this opportunity to thank India, the European countries for welcoming the refugees and give them shelters. He should have shown his concerns on the state of mind of these refugees and give ncessary and practical advice to help them. But instead, he said Europe is Europeans and the refugees should go home!

Why is Dalai Lama saying that? Is he hinting the CTA and the Tibetans that they should also go back to Tibet? It is not hard to see the free Tibet movement will not be successful, it is just a political tool to undermine China. I think it is best the Tibetans go back to China, they have better opportunity and future compared to where they are now.

  27. It’s weird to see Dalai Lama put up such statement where he himself and so many Tibetan are still a refugee for close to 60 years. How can Dalai Lama didn’t think of the sentiment of the people that left their country to seek for better place to leave just like many other Tibetan which living under the Indian roof.

When Dalai Lama says Europe belongs to Europeans, can Dalai Lama show by example to bring all Tibetan from Europe, India and all other countries back to their homeland in China now? If Dalai Lama can’t with what right to give such statement?

Even if Tibetan able to go back to their homeland it doesn’t mean others have the same scenario that they could go back. The situation are different for other refugees and more to look into than just a generalise statement.

  28. I am speechless and confused at the same time. I find it very intriguing for a Nobel prize winner to be uttering such nasty comments. Now, what has dalai lama and his administration done so far? Any achievement or talk with the Chinese in bringing the exiles back to TAR? Since DL spoke such harsh words, shouldn’t all exiles be back in TAR. Interesting though, if one were to see it from another angle, perhaps the DL is hinting, shouldn’t the exiles be back in Tibet?

A learned spiritual head shouldn’t be making comments that are political and create unnecessary disputes. That is why they are called a spiritual person because they should meddle in spiritual affairs instead of politics. The countries with Tibetans in exile should throw them all back to China. 🤣

Lets also hope that China is kind and compassionate to consider accepting all the exiles back in. 🤞

  29. The Dalai Lama may be biologically old but his mind is as sharp as ever. For him to make such a blunder, one after another, is quite perplexing. Or is he trying to show that after all he is human and had erred, just like he was wrong on the controversy surrounding Dorje Shugden? He may not want to publicly apologise for his mistakes but would leave people to conclude for themselves.

  30. I was wondering why DL said such hurtful statement on his speech that offended refugees in Europe. Could probably, his intention indirectly hinting Tibetans to back Tibet, united them and also apology of his wrong doing. 🤔

  31. I’ve no idea what make an Nobel Peace prize winner to turn his back around to create WAR, when he was once tirelessly spreading peace & love and fight for human rights.

I please H.H the 14th Dalai Lama to hold his horse before falling straight down to the cliff.

  32. For millions of people around the world, Dalai Lama is a symbol of compassion and peace. So do you think what he said in this article is compassion and love or creating disharmony? It is just like when HH Dalai Lama ban the dorje shugden practice had created disharmony within Tibet, hatred and segregation and you can find lots of proof on these in this blog, so it is not surprise of his comments. Tibetan leadership is getting lost after they put the blame to Dorje Shugden for not achieving anything after 60 years. Yes, they are lost…

  33. The world need spiritual leader like Dalai Lama focus bringing people together by humanity, kindness and non violent to create the world peace and harmony together. Spiritual leader should less involve in politic which give wrong image to the religion. Dalai Lama make the mistake statement at Euro. Even people like the bodhisattva can make mistake what about other have wrong motivation to use politic power to control people.

  34. What is meaning behind this hurtful statement spoken by a man who’s been promoting love, compassion and peace through out the world for the last 60 years. Is he saying this to get attention or is he saying the truth? No matter what, I still think it’s not so kind to say something like this because this truly affect the refugees mind. Apologies is needed to peace their mind. Tibetan have gone through the same process 60 years go and still they are refugees in India. By saying that, all Tibetan refugees should return to Tibet. That’s not possible.

  35. Dalai Lama, himself being a refugee of 60 years, living off the kindness of others, especially India who had leased the land for free to the Tibetans in exile, should had been more sensitive to the refugees who were escaping with their lives.Who wishes to be refugees? Well, except for CTA who is able to get extremely fat pocket money for their retirement. Most risked their lives to reach their destination with hope for the future. Who doesn’t want to go home, just like the Dalai Lama, but most would integrate into society of the refuge country to make their living and settle to establish families. Of course, it would be different with CTA who need to keep the Tibetan refugees at camp to get continued sponsorship. Theo Horesh is correct in saying that boundaries are a mental construe that we placed on ourselves.

From the Dalai Lama statement, we could already see how the Tibet would have been under his governance, No Refugees allowed. It shows his intolerance for another race. Also could he be pushing for this bad publicity to get himself kicked out of India as refugee and back into China? But all that he had created are more problems for his own people, refugees in many countries across the world.

  36. China and India are becoming closer and in a recent meeting have agreed on some points. One of these points is that the Dalai Lama will not be allowed to carry out any more political activities against China on Indian soil. Being a spiritual leader, why is he so political anyway? The Indian leaders are slowly silencing the Dalai Lama and the Tibetans in India. The Dalai Lama and his Tibetan government in-exile regime had better make friends with China already. They should either go back to Tibet/China or become Indian citizens and remain silent.

China will review new inputs on Azhar

Delhi says no anti-Chinese activity will be allowed in India

China has assured India that it will, in future, consider any additional information that is provided on Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar to designate him as an international terrorist.

The assurance was given by Minister of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China, Zhao Kezhi, to Home Minister Rajnath Singh at a high-level meeting held in New Delhi last week.

    Dalai Lama’s visit

On its part, India said its territory would not be used for any political activity against China, when Beijing raised the visit of the Dalai Lama to Arunachal Pradesh in 2016.

The Doklam stand-off between the armies of the two countries at the China-Sikkim-Bhutan tri-junction last year, which lasted for over two months, was not raised by either side.

China had blocked India’s proposal to designate Azhar as an international terrorist at a UN sanctions committee. “The Chinese Minister also promised action on United Liberation Front of Assam leader Paresh Baruah, who is said to be hiding in China. He said they would consider any fresh information provided by India on both Azhar and Baruah,” said a senior government official.

China considers Arunachal Pradesh a disputed territory and has referred to Tibetan leader Dalai Lama as a “separatist.” China was categorical that no protests or demonstrations should be organised by the Tibetans here.

    ‘A spiritual leader’

“They wanted to raise the so-called disputed status of Arunachal Pradesh, but we did not agree to include it in the agenda. The Chinese delegation was assured that no political activity against the Chinese will be allowed from any Indian territory and as far as the Dalai Lama is concerned, he is a spiritual Tibetan leader who was given shelter in India,” said the official.

Beijing also raised the unrest in Xinjiang province and sought India’s cooperation on the movement of Uighur militants.

    ‘No Uighur militants’

“There is no evidence of the movement of Uighur militants in India, but the Chinese raised the subject as they have an apprehension that they may use India as a transit. They were assured that no such activity will be allowed,” said the official.

On October 22, India and China signed an agreement to “strengthen and consolidate discussions and cooperation in the areas of counter-terrorism, organised crime, drug control and other such relevant areas.”

A Memorandum of Understanding had been signed in 2005 with China, but that lapsed two years ago.

Contemplate This

.…Instead of turning away people who practise Dorje Shugden, we should be kind to them. Give them logic and wisdom without fear, then in time they give up the ‘wrong’ practice. Actually Shugden practitioners are not doing anything wrong. But hypothetically, if they are, wouldn’t it be more Buddhistic to be accepting? So those who have views against Dorje Shugden should contemplate this. Those practicing Dorje Shugden should forbear with extreme patience, fortitude and keep your commitments. The time will come as predicted that Dorje Shugden’s practice and it’s terrific quick benefits will be embraced by the world and it will be a practice of many beings.
