贡萨秋吉仁波切坐床大典
31 July 2014 marks a day of rejoicing as the world celebrates the return of the great Dharma master, H.E. Denma Gonsa Rinpoche, and his enthronement in Gonsa Monastery in Tibet. The previous Denma Gonsa Rinpoche was a highly respected Lama who chose to remain in Tibet during difficult times. Through his great efforts and sincerity in spreading the Dharma, the previous (19th) Denma Gonsa Rinpoche became one of the most respected Lamas, by both Tibetans and Chinese.
The previous Denma Gonsa Rinpoche entered clear light in 2005, but the local populace have not lost faith nor forgotten the great deeds of this master. Over 200,000 Dorje Shugden people from Tibet and around the world (which is more than the number of Tibetans living in exile) attended the enthronement ceremony of the 20th Denma Gonsa Rinpoche on 31 July 2014. The pomp and grandeur of the ceremony was especially moving in the light of the fact Tibetans are not wealthy. For them to offer so much towards their lama and his enthronement ceremony, which was held in the traditional manner, indicates that Tibetan culture and faith in their religion remains strong in Tibet.
The fact this enthronement ceremony was held also shows that Dorje Shugden’s practice is not bad or evil, as claimed by the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA; the Tibetan leadership based in Dharamsala). Denma Gonsa Rinpoche relied upon Dorje Shugden until the day he died, and spread his practice among all of his students. Thus the sheer volume of Dorje Shugden devotees in attendance clearly shows that Dorje Shugden’s practice is flourishing in Tibet. A Demographic Survey of Tibetans in Exile, released by the Planning Commission of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) in 2010 estimates only 128,014 Tibetans living in exile. One can therefore conclude that the CTA’s claims that Dorje Shugden is only practiced by a minority is a falsehood.
It is indeed a joyful occasion that Dorje Shugden practitioners in Tibet are allowed to welcome the new incarnation of Denma Gonsa Rinpoche, one of our lineage’s lamas. We rejoice that yet another Dorje Shugden lama has been officially enthroned. Through the blessings of the lineage masters and pure aspirations from previous lives, may this incarnation of Denma Gonsa Rinpoche continue his previous lives’ works to preserve and spread the holy teachings of Je Tsongkhapa, bring benefit to the people of Tibet and China, and remain with us for a very long time.
An enthronement of a Rinpoche is the formal recognition of a particular child or adult to be the incarnation of a particular lama or Rinpoche from a previous life. This unmistaken child is found by a search party that is formed by the close students of that lama, who are usually part of the Labrang private office) of that lama. The selection process is a particularly arduous task of examining prophesies, dreams and divinations of greatly clairvoyant masters like Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, the Dorje Shugden oracle and sometimes close disciples of that particular lama who have very clean samaya (guru-disciple relationship). Then, based on those observations and conclusions, candidates are shortlisted, interviewed and observed.
During the interview, one of the tests involves the candidates identifying personal objects that used to belong to their previous life. These personal objects are displayed along with other items, and the candidate is asked to pick out his personal belongings. The candidates are shortlisted based on behavioral observations and if he picks out the right objects.
The unmistaken incarnation of Denma Gonsa Rinpoche was recognized by four great masters of the Gelug lineage:
- H.H. the Panchen Lama
- H.H. Trijang Chocktrul Rinpoche
- H.H. Pabongka Rinpoche
- The Dorje Shugden oracle
Below are images and videos of the enthronement ceremony contributed by the public. We hope you will rejoice with us in the return of this lama who will no doubt grow up to become a strong proponent of Lama Tsongkhapa’s tradition and Dorje Shugden’s practice.
Pre-Enthronement
The crowd arrives
Thousands of people, many travelling great distances, made their way to the monastery grounds a few days ahead of the actual enthronement. The number of white tents increased daily, covering the plains like a small city. Because of the sheer volume of people wishing to pay homage to and receive blessings from the new incarnation of Denma Gonsar Rinpoche, the monastery had to hold the ceremony in the open air in order to accommodate everyone. Remember that the number of people in attendance – 200,000 Dorje Shugden practitioners – grossly outweighed the total number of Tibetans in exile…
The Arrival of Denma Gonsa Rinpoche
Contrary to the Central Tibetan Administration’s (CTA) insistence that Dorje Shugden is a minority practice, the pictures here clearly show that Dorje Shugden’s practice is flourishing in Tibet and growing all over the world, in China, Mongolia as well as Europe. As more and more Dorje Shugden lamas come of age and begin to spread the Gelug teachings, the CTA’s claim that Dorje Shugden is a minority practice begins to look increasingly illogical. How can Dorje Shugden be a minority practice when thousands of people all over the world happily and faithfully turn up for teachings and blessings, carrying Dorje Shugden images and prostrating to Dorje Shugden statues?

As you can see, in areas where the CTA do not have jurisdiction, Dorje Shugden practice is growing and hundreds of thousands of people continue to propitiate the blessings of this Buddha, like they have always done. In areas where the CTA has control, for example Dharamsala, there is much religious strife and disagreement. We can thus logically conclude that any schism and disharmony in Tibetan Buddhist communities arises from the CTA’s unnecessary and illegal ban on Dorje Shugden. Whether Dorje Shugden is a minority practice (as the CTA claims) or not, everyone should be given the freedom to worship as they like. This freedom, which is absent where the CTA has control, is what gives rise to the religious harmony, understanding and respect.

Wow ! The enthronement day was held at such a grand scale ! It was attended by more then 200,000 people and also comprises of many highly attained Lamas. Denma Gonsa Rinpoche is certainly revered by many. This is because he has left behind an unforgettable legacy in his previous life.
During the Tibet uprising in 1959, when many Tibetans including the Dalai Lama fled Tibet to India, Denma Gonsa Rinpoche chose to remain in Tibet. He struggled through the Cultural Revolution in China for years, never giving up his faith and practice. He continued to spread the Dharma and build monasteries. He learned to work with the Chinese for the benefit of everyone.
Throughout the years, it became clear that the great protector Dorje Shugden was always beside Denma Gonsa Rinpoche providing every means to help Rinpoche in all his endeavors. There were signs – for instance during the Qinghai earthquake, many buildings were damaged and yet standing intact amongst all the destruction was Denma Gonsa Rinpoche’s monastery. Neither was Rinpoche’s house damaged.
Hence, all are happy the new reincarnation is here and now enthroned. May Denma Gonsa Rinpoche continue to live long to turn the wheel of Dharma for the benefit of all !

Im so happy to see a revered and renown teacher like Denma Gonsa Rinpoche’s reincarnation is back and over 200,000 people came to celebrate together with his enthronement. I just can’t wait for all these young and powerful lama to grow up fast so that many will be benefited from the dharma teaching, and most importantly to bring down the ban spreading Dorje Shugden teaching far and wide. In no time CTA and his cronies will lose all their credibility, NO one will trust CTA anymore cos someone powerful like Denma Gonsa Rinpoche will tell the truth!

Rejoice for all the Tibetan who show so much devotion for their practice and their guru, it also a proof that DS practice is beneficial for these people otherwise they have to endure so much hardship to attend the enthronement ceremony.

These pictures warm my heart tremendously. In recent years, there have so much negative propaganda, smear campaigns, lies and distortions told by the CTA that for some, it would seem like the pure Gelugpa lineage would be mired in controversy for some time to come.
I see now that the CTA is a spent force and it is only a matter of time when that becomes obvious. A few years ago, all Shugden worshippers rejoiced when Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche re-emerged in public and now we see the 19th Denma Gonsar Rinpoche being so well received. It says to me that come what may, the Dorje Shugden lineage and practice is safe, firm and assured, and this after the Dalai Lama and his government threw everything they had against it.
With such a large population of Dorje Shugden practitioners in Tibet and a growing following worldwide, it should also become clear that the CTA has in fact lost considerable ground and credibility in trying to ignore/deny an indefensible religious ban.
I look forward to the day when all Shugden lamas, monks and practitioners come together. If this event drew a crowd of over 200,000, imagine when all the Shugden lamas, monks and practitioners come together soon.

It’s beautiful and wonderful news!
Previous 18th Denma Gongsar Rinpoche is a student of both Kyabje Trijang Rinpoceh and Pabongkha Dechen Nyingpo. Denma Gongsar Rinpoche has 18ft magnificent Dorje Shugden statue which is the biggest that I have known. Such a great Shugden Lama that has preserve and spread the Lama
Tsongkhpa doctrine with Lord Shugden practice, his reincarnation proved that Dorje Shugden is not a spirit and his incarnation recognized by the great lineage Lamas can never be a mistake. Looking at the numbers of people attending the enthronement which also proven that there are more than 200,000 Shugden practitioners out there which is not a minority at all as claim by the CTA!
I remember in one of the article mentioned Kyabje Denma Gonsa told his main attendants before passing away that a few boys will claim to be his incarnation. But the real incarnation will recognize himself. He will recite the Root tantra of Guhyasamaja from memory perfectly. Only enthrone this boy as his real incarnation. I believe the 19th Denma Gongsar Rinpoche would have able to recite them effortlessly.
So much rejoicing reading this article. Another Shugden Lama being enthroned which mean another great master come back to continue his legacy to spread the Lama Tsongkhapa teaching and Lord Shugden practice far and wide.

CTA is getting desperate and without integrity will say whatever that will discredit Dorje Shugden devotees. Dorje Shugden devotees are not minority but a vast and large number of whom CTA would rather not know.
I am so happy to see the 200,000 devotees at the enthronement of the 19th Denmar Gongsar Rinpoche in Tibet. A illustration to the wrong doings of CTA.
As many many reincarnate Shugden lamas are genuinely recognised and enthroned, may the BAN be lifted as soon as possible.
I firmly believe that the Shugden devotees never diminished in numbers but remained steadfast and with that motivation the numbers are growing stronger and larger.
May the devotees prevail very very soon and have the BAN lifted. There is no other way.

I wonder what CTA say to this event of Denma Gonsar Rinpoche’s enthronement which drew over 250,000 people from all over Tibet to celebrate the occasion. The number of Shugden Buddhists has far exceeded the number of Tibetans in exile from various traditions. Denma Gonsar Rinpoche not in the hierarchy of high lama can command this astounding crowd, it goes without saying what can be expected when a high Shugden Lama celebrates an event. As can be seen the crowd which turned out at Sampheling Monastery for the recent Monlam Festival was 400,000 Shugden Buddhists and H.H. Trijang Rinpoche was not even present. Not to forget, there are many nationalities from different countries in the world who are engaging Shugden Buddhists and the number is no less than 6 million people.
Can CTA still say that Shugden Buddhists are the minority denomination in number of members in the world? It would be similar to saying that Catholicism is the minority denomination in number of members in the world. It is so apparent, why try to pull wool over the eyes?
I must applaud that the Chinese Government is according much religious liberties to the Tibetans. As far as can be seen there are no religious oppressions in Tibet as been claimed by some Tibetans. On the contrary, the oppressions are from the Dalai Lama and CTA!

I am amazed and overwhelmed when looking at the pictures of Denma Gonsa Rinpoche’s enthronement. The pictures really speak a thousand words. Whatever the CTA and Dalai Lama said about Shugden devotees being a minority of Tibetan Buddhism do not seem to hold their ground anymore.
I hope CTA realized thathe time is changing and they will stop causing the suffering of so many people because of the ban and religious discrimination they imposed on Shugden’s devotees.
I think the article is short and sweet. I wish I were there to witness this grand occassion.

I am so proud, happy, heart warming and rejoice of course as a Dorje Shugden practitioners . After seeing so many so many negative, terrifying and sad news about the lama and practitioners, finally manage to see this grand, holy and sacred ceremony happening in Tibet. 200,000 over people worshipping Denma Gonsar Rinpoche, one of the the lineage Masters of Dorje Shugden. His enthronement has given all practitioners a promise that Dorje Shugden practice will remain, grow and set the glory to the world.
We rejoice and dedicate this to all practitioners who are bearing the hardship now, this is the sign and the promise that Dorje Sugden had showed to us. Hang on there. You are not alone. We hear you. The world hear you. In the name of Dorje Shugden, the ban will not be long.

The CTA or ex-exiled Tibetan Govt ‘headed’ by Sikyong Lobsang Sengyi always like to reiterate that Shugden’s practice is done by a small minority. Does that make it ok to destroy a spiritual practice just because it is practiced by a small minority? Doesn’t minorities have the right just as the majority?
The truth of the matter is Shugden practitioners are not a minority but make up a huge percentage of the Tibetan population. Denma Gonsa Rinpoche is a famous lama and was well respected. His reincarnation is back and over 200,000 Dorje Shugden practitioners turned up to welcome his incarnation and witness his investiture (enthronement ceremony). Denma Gonsa Rinpoche has been a powerful and strong follower of Dorje Shugden for many lifetimes. During the ceremonies a large Dorje Shugden puja was conducted to bless the crowd and propitiate Shugden for his blessings for the success of this event which was very successful.
His students recall that in his previous incarnation, they witnessed the 14th Dalai Lama called him personally and asked him to stop the Shugden practice. Denma Gonsa Rinpoche scolded the 14th Dalai Lama back and ask how can he give up a practice given to him by his guru and create so much schism and hard feelings then hung up the phone on Dalai Lama. He told the Dalai Lama Shugden is a Buddha and there is no doubt about it.
Dorje Shugden practice is not practiced by a minority and the practice is growing bigger and beyond CTA’s perverted control.

This is really great news that so many people rejoiced the enthronement of His Holiness Denma Gongsar Rinpoche. This is really touched that over two hundred peoples came to celebrate this event. Again to show that the Geluge lineage is growing and continue flourish. I believe over the time the lineage will expand to the whole world with no limitation. Again to prove that the ban on the Dorje Shudgen is not rational and unreasonable as the 19th Denma Gongsar Rinpoche is back again and confirmed by so many high lamas. So the ban should be lifted and let’s be fair to all the Shudgen practitioners.

The grand setup of the enthronement clearly shown the respect and devotion of the lay and ordained people towards the reincarnation of the 18th Denma Gongsar Rinpoche. It has proven again that those who practise Dorje Shugden do not be born in hell, the come back stronger and more powerful! Again, the crowd and this ceremony have proven that the claims of CTA are nothing but self made statements which are not the truth – minority can not be more than 200,000 people!
I rejoice in the enthronement on our lineage Shugden lama and wish very much that the ban will be lifted much sooner with his return!
It will be nice if the article includes the summary of the process and hardships in finding the 19th Denma Gongsar Rinpoche and sharing information on who involves in the search. It’ll be very useful. Nonetheless, thank you for this wonderful article.

So many have turned up to support and to receive blessings from the 19th Denma Gonsa Rinpoche. I have never seen such a large crowd in any enthronement ceremony! It seems there were more people gathered there that day than the total number of Tibetans in exile! This shows that Buddhism is going strong in Tibet and the followers have great guru devotion! That is why their lama came back! It is also evident that Denma Gonsa’s followers are all Shugden worshippers. This is proof that the practice is strong in Tibet and the people continue to be deeply devoted to their guru and the lineage.

This is very auspicious! It is amazing to see so many Dorje Shugden practitioners in Tibet openly attended the Enthronement. If not for the ban, the turn-out could be even bigger!!! With the return of such a great Master, Kyabje Denma Gonsar Rinpoche, may Dorje Shugden practice spread even further to benefit more people and the ban be lifted soon.

Such a great news!
With over 200,000 Dorje Shugden people from Tibet and around the world – which outnumbered Tibetans living in exile – attended the entronement ceremony of the great Dharma master, H.E. Denma Gonsa Rinpoche, in Gonsa Monastery in Tibet.
The above fact has proved the statistics published by CTA in 2010 (which estimates only 128,014 Tibetans living in exile) is not true, not reflecting the fact at all!
You can only tell lies for one or even few times but not all the times.

200,000 Dorje Shugden practitioners relying on Dorje Shugden daily, the numbers are staggering. A Swiss friend of mine mentioned before the invasion of Tibet 90% of the Tibetan people were Gelugs. Which means 90% of the Tibetans practiced Dorje Shugden and now many have to give up the practice as a result of this unfair ban.

It is so grand and beautiful seeing so many white tents set up against magnificent mountains in the background to welcome Denma Gonsar Rinpoche, and the so many vehicles and so many people of all ages.
Incredible!!!
Now, what has the Tibetan leadership and those in CTA has to say of this? Again singing the same old song that Dorje Shugden is a spirit and doing His practice harms the Dalai Lama’s life?

CTA MUST CHANGE IT`S POLICY TOWARDS SHUGDEN COMMUNITY WHICH COMPRISES ALMOST 30% OF EXISTING TIBETAN POPULATION OF 5 MILLION. THERE IS NO OTHER CHOICE LEFT BEFORE THE WHOLE SHUGDEN ISSUE BECOMES HISTORICAL DOWNFALL OF TIBET AND IT`S RICH CULTURE.
I DO THINK THAT THE INSISTING AND CONSISTENT ” SHUGDEN ” ISSUE IS THIS AND PREVIOUS FEW DALAI LAMAS `S PRIVATE ISSUE, BUT TRUELY WAS AND IS NOT THE ISSUE OF TIBET NATION.
THE WHOLE ISSUE OF THIS DIETY SHUGDEN SPIRIT OR NON SPIRIT WAS AND IS STILL NATIONALISTICALLY POLITICISED BY SOME “CLEVER” INDIVIDUELS WHO HAD AND SUFFERED UNDER THEIR PAST PERSONAL PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMAS.
TIBET NATION MUST BE FREED FROM MEDIVIEL SUPERSTICIANS AND FREE FROM RELIGION IN NATION`S POLITICAL DECISION MAKING.
TIBET NATION UNDER CHINA OR NOT UNDER CHINA MUST PREPARE ITSELF FOR BETTER GENUIN DEMOCRACTIC FUTURE.
THE YOUNGER GENERATION OF TIBETANS LIVING IN / OUTSIDE TIBET MUST NOT BE “BRAINWASHED ” BY CLERGIES OR BY ANY RESPONSIBLE PERSONS. LET THEM GROW FREELY WITH THIER OWN INTELLIGENCE IN THIS 21.ST CENTURY.
PLEASE THINK TIBET AS A NATION BUT NOT AS A ” DHARMA CENTER OR AS A CLUB “

The enthronement ceremony of Denma Gonsa Rinpoche and sheer amount of over 200,000 devotees who attended is surely a slap to CTA and DS ban. Denma Gonsa Rinpoche is recognised Panchen Lama, HH Trijang Rinpoche, HH Pabongka Rinpoche and DS oracle. These high lamas are devoted and world renown DS practitioners. It is a testimony to that this incarnation of Denma Gonsa Rinpoche will surely continue the DS practice. The incredible number of devotees that attended this enthronement shows that even if some are not DS practitioners, they do not believe in the lies that have been told about DS. More and more people are starting to find out for themselves the truth about DS and making a stand based on knowledge and not just lies. The integrity of the high lamas that practiced DS has shone through the lies on DS and through their continuous devotion, they are gaining the support of DS practitioners and non DS practitioners alike.

WOW. That’s a really grand enthronement ceremony for Denma Gonsa Rinpoche. With the huge number of devotees attending he ceremony, it is clear that many people are supporters of the DS practices and regardless of the ban imposed, people are still flocking all around the world to witness this auspicious ceremony. How great is that! And as for CTA who claim, there are just a minority practicing DS, they should really open their eyes and see what’s going on out there.

Amazing 200,000 attendees! A big slap to CTA who claims dorjeshugden practitioners is minority. By just looking at the pictures of all white tents and the huge crowd surrounding Denma Gonsa Rinpoche, it’s already proven shugden practice is strong and genuine. The return of Denma Gonsar Rinpoche, previously an outstanding student of both Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and Kyabje Pabongka Dechen Nyingpo, has marked a important milestone in Gelug lineage and also the powerful shugden practice.
So are u still saying these practitioners demonic Cult? No way!! 200,000 followers (excluding other countries in the world! ) are not easy to gain, these 200,000 ++ people must have done their research & investigation before they commit to a Lama/practice. We have brains.

One thing for sure, Dorje Shugden is not a practice of few as claimed by the CTA. If the enthronement of Denma Gonsa Rinpoche already gathers 200,000 Dorje Shugden practitioners, imagine the number who would come together one day when all the Dorje Shugden Lamas like Trijang Rinpoche, Denma Gonsa Rinpoche, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Yongyal Rinpoche etc. gather to celebrate the lifting of the DS Ban. I think there will be millions!!!! That thought gives me goose pimple from excitement and anticipation.
It is wonderful that so much effort is put into ensuring a significant and elaborate celebration because Dharma is becoming more precious and our great Gurus are our link to the 3 Jewels. I rejoice as this effort will create the cause for great Lamas to return and turn the Wheel of Dharma.
This platform, DS.com is a powerful, effective and efficient way to contribute to the lifting o the ban by providing accurate, timely and abundant information about the DS controversy!

Rejoice to the return of Denma Gonsa Rinpoche. 200,000 followers attending the enthronement ceremony, wow, that is a lot!
There are also other lineages in China, if Dorje Shugden creates disharmony among different lineages, China government will immediately ban the practice. So far, we have not heard of any conflicts or disputes among the different schools in China. So what CTA claims is not true after all.
