DorjeShugden.com is glad to bring you breaking news about the International Shugden Community’s latest peaceful demonstration in San Francisco, California. The ISC has been diligently planning this protest months in advance, after the Dalai Lama’s 4-day California schedule was announced.
The first day of the Dalai Lama’s visit to California coincided with the first day of a large scale demonstration by the ISC. The news of the demonstration was pre-hyped internally, and was passed among Shugden practitioners by word of mouth. Like many of the past demonstrations that took place in America, the first day of the demonstration for religious freedom to practice our protector Dorje Shugden, received great support from the public and also gained the much needed attention from the press such as abc7 News and Chicago Tribune.
We are informed that the members of ISC have vowed to beg for religious freedom throughout all 4 days of the Dalai Lama’s visit to California. Stay tuned for more news, images and videos as this page will be updated daily.

English translation: Buddhists protest against the Dalai Lama in San Francisco Dozens of Buddhists marched last Saturday in the streets of San Francisco to protest against the visit of the Dalai Lama, who, according to them, persecuted the followers of a deity that the Tibetan spiritual head in exile had denounced for several decades. The small crowd of monks and other devotees of the Shugden Buddhist sect, who worship the deity Dorje Shugden, waved placards and chanted slogans in favour of the freedom of worship. The demonstration took place near the building where the Dalai Lama was to give his address. The Dalai Lama was received last Friday at the White House by Barack Obama. He will be staying for two weeks in the United States and will be giving talks in different cities. According to his critics, the Dalai Lama had excommunicated several thousand Shugden Buddhists living in Tibetan communities in exile in India and he continues to push them to leave Tibetan communities around the world, by depriving them not only of employment and health care, but also of an education for their children.

If the HHDL was gone and Dorje Shugden remained, do you think the Dharma would spread as far and wide with just Dorje Shugden? I highly doubt Dorje Shugden or the high lamas who practice Shugden would even have a chance to spread the Dharma as far and wide on this earth as HHDL.
Sure, Shugdenpas would go propitiate and take refuge in Shugden like they currently due in their monasteries, but would the Dharma spread as far as HHDL can spread it? I don’t think so.
To all these people protesting HHDL: Does this really benefit all sentient beings, or does it just work to bring down one of the very few voices that can be heard in the mainstream pop culture speaking about Dharma and planting the seeds of Lama Tsongkhapa.
Think of the effects of you actions in the bigger picture.

Based on your logic one could also argue that HHDL could not have been able to have a large impact without the support of pro-DS lamas…there is and has always been a close relationship between both camps.
To the point that practitioners in the monastery would pray together do puja together even though practitioners would follow DS or not.
A blessing from any Buddha is the same however you cut it?
Some of those pro DS lamas were instrumental for dharma coming to the west paving the way for dharma to take hold and thrive as it is today.
It is only now that DS ban, DS practitioners are made a scape goat for violence for HHDL short life / Tibet still not being free etc….
Just because people only see HHDL in the media doesn’t mean that there are other Lamas incapable of making an impact on the world as you put it?
The real reason is out of respect for HH many just focus on their own dharma works without being disrespectful of HH. Some lamas works are visible but a large majority are not, nothing wrong with that.
If you want your Lama to be big in the world? out of pride that he is the best and no one else can compare? That is worldly dharma friend and cannot bring yourself or others any benefit.
The issue supported by this website and others around the world is people want freedom from persecution, equal human rights regardless of what you believe in, protection from harm…is everyones right in the end.
I am sure you would be protesting also if anytime day or not someone would harm you or your family. That in most people books is no different from apartheid or any other flashpoint area around the world.

Shar Gaden and the other Shugden monasteries are growing and now even Shar Gaden has new Geshes. How can this be if they are really persecuted? shouldn’t they have been run out of town with pitchforks by now? Instead, I see them succeeding in their Dharma practice instead of the Shar Gaden monks protesting HHDL like these western Shugden monks.
This is not being “big in the world” to be the “best” as you put it, it is planting the seeds of Dharma in those who would never think of the Dharma. Regular everyday people who have heard of HHDL may eventually pick up one of his books, then ask what kind of Buddhism is he practicing, then come to the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa and so on and so forth.
Can you say the same for Dorje Shugden? How exactly is protesting spreading the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa and the Dharma in general? I think this is just damaging the potential to spread the Dharma. For a common person, saying the name of a Dorje Shugden high lama will not evoke a thought of buddhism in the minds of everyday people who never even heard of Tibetan Buddhism. Say the name “Dorje Shugden” and explain to them about Dharma protectors and do you really think a common person would even understand how Dorje Shugden relates to “the Buddha” and not to mention the concept of a Dharma protector?
HHDL has the power to appear in a form that can speak to the common people, and Dorje Shugden doesn’t. You cannot deny that.

Dalai Lama should do something already:
The protests will not stop and this issue will not die off till it’s handled correctly. His HOliness the Dalai Lama or the Tibetan leadership MUST have dialogue with Shugden groups in a peaceful and logical manner to resolve this issue in a democratic manner. These protests which are all over the media will embarrass the the Tibetan leadership and unfortunately tarnish the Dalai Lama’s international reputation. Something must be done immediately. I do not worship Dorje Shugden but I live in USA and freedom of religion is honored. We Tibetans have religious freedom here in the USA. All Tibetans and people of the world deserve it also. It is outdated for CTA leadership to ban any religions, spiritual worship or practices in this day and age with Tibetans and Tibetan communities.
Tibetans and Tibetan leadership still rely on Western support of their causes. So it would be better to portray to Westerners and their governments that we Tibetans (CTA) are not having witch hunts. You may have theological differences, but that should not equate to having actual laws banning Shugden Tibetans from Tibetan hospitals, monasteries, schools and equal opportunity. The CTA should stop printing flyers/information/distributions, remove all anti-Shugden write ups from their official website. All Shugden Tibetans should be welcomed into mainstream Tibetan life and join the protest for a Free or autonomous (Depending on Dalai Lama) Tibet against the Chinese just like our Muslim and Bonpo Tibetans. CTA should stop dividing Tibetans. His Holiness (with respect) should stop calling Shugden people spirit worshippers. He is insulting someone’s faith and inevitably inciting ignorant Tibetans to act (sometimes violently: http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/the-controversy/cta-creates-violence-again/ )against Shugden people. That should stop. It does not look good for H.H. Dalai Lama to be seen in this light where he encourages religious discrimination. He should not call anyone a spirit worshipper. I don’t agree with the nun’s approach but I don’t agree with Dalai Lama’s answer. His Holiness invited this upon himself I respectfully say.
I love my Tibet, I love the Dalai Lama and proud to be a Tibetan, but there are issues within our society and religion that need to be addressed immediately such as the Shugden issue. The Dalai Lama and Tibetan lamas all get their support/finances from foreigners. Foreigners and their democratic views must be respected.

Amazing how much coverage this protest has garner worldwide exposure. Amazing how many people are now expose to the Shugden issue. Very good. Even a friend came up to me 2 weeks ago to asked me about this Dorje Shugden deity which had so much news coverage.
Of course, I took the opportunity to explain to her about how powerful this practice is and WHY IS THIS DEITY NOT A DEMON as what HH has said it is. Simple reason which will normally an average educated person will buy is that the teachers of HH practices this practice and they have returned in their new incarnation and still practices this practice. Do u think he is a Demon? and so on.
