Gaden Tharpa Choling Monastery is a Gelugpa monastery situated at the hilltop in Kalimpong, West Bengal, India. The monastery was founded by Domo Geshe Rinpoche Ngawang Kalsang in 1912.
History says that Domo Geshe Rinpoche lived in Kalimpong in 1906 when he came to India for pilgrimage and to collect medicinal plants from India, Nepal and Bhutan. At the request of the Tibetan merchants and some Bhutanese leaders living in Kalimpong to establish a monastery there, Rinpoche instituted this monastery.

It is always wonderful to read of a monastery that propitiates the enlightened Protector, Dorje Shugden. Domo Geshe Rinpoche Ngawang Kalsang who instituted Gaden Tharpa Choling Monastery, is a very highly attained Master and with the statue of Dorje Shugden in a locked room next to the gompa, it is a clear sign that Domo Geshe Rinpoche Ngawang Kalsang accepts and propitiates Dorje Shugden’s practises. Gaden Tharpa Choling Monastery must be a famous monastery to be mentioned in the Lonely Planet of places to visit. May the acitivities of this monastery continue to bless and benefit the people with the teachings of pure Dharma.
